I wouldn't say that I hate fandoms, but there are certain brands/IPs that I feel are overexposed. Like, I don't watch Doctor Who, but I've been exposed to so much of it from fans themselves or companies trying to sell to those fans that I get references from episodes I've never seen, and it's causing dissonance.
Just in case you needed to know, the Bioware fandom on tumblr, at least as far as I've seen from the 600-odd people I follow, is pretty well behaved for its size.
he often went into battle naked other than a gun and a pair of trainers hence the non de guerre
He was, well, he committed some horrific acts both before and during the war
afterwards he repented all his sins, became a priest, and now preaches non violence and anti-cannibalism, and seems to truly believe what he did was awful
point is, nobody is beyond redemption
I am not sure that I realized that the Book of Mormon character was actually based on a real person. Interesting.
I just heard Locomotive Breath (yes for the first time shut up)
I'm not sure if it's a good song
But I fucking love it and I will start a new Jethro Tull fandom right now
afterwards he repented all his sins, became a priest, and now preaches non violence and anti-cannibalism
Wow, fuck that guy!
He preaches non-cannibalism because he was a cannibal and lots of people he knows are cannibals are currently in the Liberian government
It's pretty fascinating to read about, though obviously pretty fucked up as well. I won't repeat any of the specifics here because, well, they're horrible
yeah, yeah i generally try to veer away from anything approaching fandom. i think if there was any sort of shared fan experience i got really into? breaking bad. yeah. i was all over that. i think ive seen every episode four times a piece.
im gonna see better call saul as soon as it airs.
as far as being a fan of a thing, i dont know if i get attached enough to something. i appreciate things differently than in my teens, which sorta seems like the baseline of a fandom? and the downside of kinda...railing against a fandom is the very real possibility of becoming the thing you supposedly hate in the near future. like, furry shit? railed against that. i dont uh, like it outside of porn but you know i was all about shitting on that and now im like lets yiff dude, yiff all over my face my dude. yiff all over my OC's face, yiff on our meticulously collected star wars figures from Kenner
there are fandoms im sort of over, but then maybe its not my thing i guess. like, sherlock. i dont get it. i enjoy the show, but that is not part and parcel reason enough to start a benedict cumberbatch cock worship club. supernatural? don't get it
One time my friends heard that there is a cinema that does monthly screenings of The Room where you're allowed to boo etc. to your hearts content. What the fuck, right? Get to laugh and boo out loud at a stupid movie.
And a bunch of us hadn't seen it but we knew bits and pieces about how terrible it was so we went.
And what we got was this weird microcosm fan club that literally handed out a sheet of in jokes to everyone to yell out during the movie along with a bunch of plastic spoons to throw at the screen. And to be clear, these guys comprised 90% of the audience. Like it was clear they've been going to the same show for months.
So basically it was a bunch of nerds screaming out a bunch of memes they'd made up every 20 seconds through a movie that didn't need any help being awful.
Fandoms are weird.

I guess? But, it's also got the license from Fox, so maybe not?
(seriously though they're mostly pretty cool)

this probably isn't nearly as ridiculous as I am imagining
which is why I'm not going to check
It comes off as weird and posessive
the dialogue gets kinda ridiculous with all the affectations
the movie was enjoyable
such as firefly, doctor who, my posts
I am not sure that I realized that the Book of Mormon character was actually based on a real person. Interesting.
Unlike its fandom. Hiyoooooo!
*cold sweats*
*hugs knees to chest*
how did sonic only come up in this thread now...
I'm not sure if it's a good song

Luckily, back then there was no internet to save that for all of eternity.
So
So this show is actually good is what you're telling me
He preaches non-cannibalism because he was a cannibal and lots of people he knows are cannibals are currently in the Liberian government
It's pretty fascinating to read about, though obviously pretty fucked up as well. I won't repeat any of the specifics here because, well, they're horrible
as it turns out, yeah, it's not bad
There was a sea of ridiculousness
