yeah while BvS is over here stinkin' up the place, AoS and Flash were really good
Hopefully Arrow is on point tonight, and I need to catch up on Supergirl, which I've heard is better as it goes on
Bit late to this party but I played hard catch-up on Supergirl yesterday and it has somehow gone from trying WAY to hard to hit-and-miss to oh holy shit this is actually REALLY GOOD in the space of about 4 episodes. You won't be disappointed.
I am LOVING that they are pitting her against both Supergirl and Superman villains and I think the TV show is where all the optimistic, hopeful, bright and do-gooder parts of Superman went.
Like someone was all fine, Zack, you can have the suit and the name and the Kents and even Lois Lane, WE'RE TAKING EVERYTHING ELSE BEFORE YOU BURN IT ALL TO THE GROUND
Regarding BvS, and the significant spoilers therein:
Since they were actually willing to kill Superman in the second DCCU movie, it makes me wonder if they'll go all the way and do Reign of the Supermen to resurrect him. Because it seems like this crazy train never stops. And hell, from there, it's only a hop, skip and a jump to the destruction of Coast City, an enraged Hal Jordan killing the GL Corps, and ultimately, becoming Parallax and nearly resetting the universe in Zero Hour. It just seems like the perfect love letter to the 90s, and right up Snyder and Goyer's alley. Our doom stretches before us.
Hypothetically speaking, let's say that by some chance BvS underperformed based on Warnes Bros expectations of it being the foundation of their giant cinematic universe money-maker.
What exactly are their options? Suicide Squad is basically done, I think I heard Wonder Woman already finished filming (though is still over a year from release), and Justice League is suppose to start production in like three weeks or something.
Additionally, hasn't Snyder positioned himself as like the architect of the whole cinematic universe? Can he be removed from the project without paying him a bunch of money to break his contract?
What about the various actors contracted for multiple films? I'd assume that after Batman Forever they got better about writing contracts so they don't have to pay actors that don't end up portraying the characters (ie. what happened with both Two-Face and Robin).
So worst case scenario they have to try and calculate if paying to break various contracts will lead to more profits in the future, or if they should grit their teeth and let them try again. Best case scenario they can cut the dead weight without having to pay them and keep what works (of course then the question is if they can correctly identify the dead weight versus what works).

The end of the movie is apparently him busting out of his grave, so he was never dead
If they dump Snyder, Affleck and Terrio could probably step in quite easily.
And WB does have a pretty good relationship with George Miller.

The other issue that WB/DC have right now though is that any tie-ins or plot points that may be used in the Justice League, say, will still be informed by the overall (alleged) terribleness of BvS. I don't think I'm overstepping by noting the success (popularity-wise, if not financially also) of most of the pre-Avengers films and how this allowed The Avengers room to breathe and present a good story. IM2, Thor, and Hulk were all the weaker links in Phase 1 but they're not even close to be classed as dumpster fires.
BvS as follow-up to MoS kinda proves my point. It sounds like BvS is trying to both write a new, next-chapter story while also trying to sort out the unpopular plot garbage from its predecessor AND then set up the JL as well. And from the reviews, it doesn't seem like it's achieved any of these goals with any significant measure of success.

BvS has the problem with DC being DC and seeing Marvel do something in the movies right, demonstrably misunderstanding why it worked, then trying to emulate it.

Isn't he signed on to direct a Batman reboot? I thought he was. Either way, I think he'd be good at it, I was quite impressed by Argo and The Town, though I'd love to see him direct a movie that he's also not starring in (for no reason other than I wanna see if that changes his style at all).

I think Suicide Squad could work regardless of how BvS does, and how their larger DC cinematic universe plans go, that is assuming it is any good on its own anyway

I haven't seen The Town. But I remember enjoying Gone Baby Gone quite a bit. Also he doesn't star in it! Though, it is still in Affleck in the lead role.

I'm still excited for WW, though. The first-look teaser or whatever it was looked really good. I really hope they do what Captain America: TFA did and just tell her story in a way that suits the character, without worrying about tying back into the rest of the DCCU until the epilogue. Shouldn't be too hard given her different timeline.

There'd be plenty of room for criticism of the Marvel formula without taking BvS into consdieration

It actually would be hilarious if they continued their plans for DCCU movies, only for all the non-Snyder helmed movies to be good.

I absolutely agree that some of Marvel's films end up being "more of the same", because that stuff worked in the past. There's plenty of room for criticism there. Ant-Man made a real effort to step back into something original with its heist theme but it was far more restrained than I would've expected given the writers behind it, and I think that's because Marvel is hedging rather than taking risks.
They went into Phase 1 knowing it was a gamble and it paid off big time, but instead of playing around with the model, they're stuck in status quo maintenance.
My disappointment in the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch aside, I'm hopeful that Dr Strange will actually achieve something new and different. Like, market it as a superhero movie, sure. Tie it into MCU, sure. But the internal themes of the movie can be something else! Fantasy horror, maybe. I don't know. Split the superhero genre into different sub-genres, for instance. But that's just me, I can't claim that this is what would work for all audiences or is even achievable by Disney/Marvel.
