I'm trying to choose between reading Ultimate Spider Man, Age of Apocalypse and Busiek's Avengers. I'm reading the first issue of each before I decide, but I have to say I don't love the art in Ultimate Spider Man (those faces). Any suggestions?
The idea that American cinema, specifically action movies, and even more specifically superhero movies have been using 9/11 imagery is nothing new, but this guy takes it in a very nihilistic, "everything is fucked" direction with his BvS analysis, probably due more to the grim tone of the movie than anything else.
Avengers, for example, can be read as a 9/11-level disaster that was averted. It took place in the middle of NYC, even prominently uses a skyscraper as a landmark for the action. A skyscraper that doesn't fall, of course. Sokovia in Age of Ultron didn't fare quite as well, but it was still a victory.
I'm not dismissing the analysis, I think it's well-put. And I think it applies to a lot of American action cinema. Bay's TMNT and Transformers movies can probably slot in there too.

I think there's plot and character and thematic developments specifically in BvS that make it apply especially well, though. Based solely on what I'm reading, anyway
It really bums me out. Even more than Man of Steel did!
Yeah I bet he's very happy with his work, honestly
I'm slowly becoming convinced that Zack Snyder is the result of a government experiment designed to clone Michael Bay.
Except instead of going horribly wrong, the project succeeded catastrophically, and now we're all stuck with it.
i know this is a joke, but Snyder and Bay were actually classmates in film school
This makes so much sense.
Bay directed the Aaron Burr 'Got Milk'? commercial from the 90s.
He gets a pass.
People keep telling me about this commercial, and having never seen it, this commercial would probably need to achieve total peace in the Middle East for me to even give Michael Bay a chance.
If I had to try to balance a double life I'd probably be incredibly shitty all the time too
yyyyeah but he's extra bad at it
he almost cheats on his girlfriend, he fucks up an incredibly important trial for things that we see later, while important, could have waited like, a fucking day, and he doesn't tell his partner who KNOWS ABOUT DAREDEVIL AND ELEKTRA whats going on until its already wrecked the trial

Busiek's Avengers is the best, read that.
All I know is that his kid was a friend of mine.
They changed up the artist recently. Take a look at issues 7 and 8.
