Sex and sexuality are sinful and deeply, deeply shameful.

Which is something I will never, ever, in a million years, understand. And if you (general you, not you specifically WordLust) think that way - fine, but why try and get everyone else on that same train of thought? Just like .. live and let live, you know? Who gives a fuck what other people are doing?

I watched a good talk once about how liberals and conservatives, generally speaking, tend to exhibit the same sorts of human biases when it comes to their own pet moral issues or simple values. I don't remember all the examples the speaker gave, but the one that sticks out in my mind is that your run o' the mill conservative tends to get all prickly when it comes to anything pertaining to sex or sexuality and it is also a topic where they may not very critically examine their own feelings/beliefs. Meanwhile, your run o' the mill liberal is likely to behave the same way with their beliefs/feelings about food purity.

    Food Purity?

Organic alternatives, fear of GMOs, etc

Ahh ok, yea that does tend to be a bit more on the liberal side... also a belief in scientific woo. I am sure there is a bunch of cross over as the denial of science sadly universal.

Exactly. There is science denial of one kind or another in both camps. While a conservative is more likely to be a climate change denier, a liberal is more likely to listen to Dr. Oz.

Yes, I'm being entitled and first-worldy, but if I say anything but I have to care for someone in the home, I have to deal with a mail-in vote. Despite "electronic" being an option (it's greyed out for all but that choice). So by the time they get it to me, it'll be voting day.

And, yes, I did cursory research back in September, but procrastination etc.

I would have liked some sort of early voting, is really all I'm saying. I don't want to abuse the absentee ballot system if I'm going to be around for voting day anyway.

What is this really a thing? I have never seen this.

Oh you are so lucky. Maybe it's some kind of regional problem. Or maybe you've just never noticed it and now that I've pointed it out you'll start to see it now. But man I see/hear this shit ALL. THE. TIME.

I don't see the problem as long as they make it in the urinal.

Yeah, I mean it sounds gross but it's miles better than spitting all over the fucking sidewalk/parking lot/wherever you happen to be like everyone does here. Repulsive

I have never understood that, it just makes no sense to me why you would just be standing somewhere, and then ptiuie, spit on the ground. Just swallow, what's the problem?

My God, could he possibly be more petulant about his own incompetency. *rolls eyes*

It's actually quite hilariously Libertarian. Libertarians love, and I mean love, to tell people how dumb they are and how the only reason they aren't successful is because of their own actions and choices.

But then watch as a Libertarian, any Libertarian, do mental gymnastics when you point out how bad their policies, and candidates, are. All of a sudden it's excuses of "the media is unfair", "two party system is holding us down". It's not their fault they're losing, it's everyone else.

No, Gary, you're not losing because of an unfair system, you're losing because you're a goddamn joke and your policy proposals are stupid, excluding marijuana legalization (broken clock, two times a day and all that).

Trump offers revealingly bad answers about the Good Book
"I wouldn't want to get into it," Trump said, "because to me that's very personal. You know, when I talk about the Bible it's very personal so I don't want to get into verses. The Bible means a lot to me but I don't want to get into specifics."

"Are you an Old Testament guy or a New Testament guy?" Heilemann asked.

"Probably equal," Trump said. "I think it's just incredible, the whole Bible is incredible."
This reads like a kid who's doing an oral report for a book he's never read.

When you think about it, gender separated public restrooms is a silly idea. I use the same restroom as a woman all the time in my own house.

I'd still be uncomfortable going into a women's stall, though. Damn social conditioning!

I'm not gonna tell you Johnson is a great candidate by any measure but he could be 100x better as a candidate and he'd still have no chance. the system does make it pretty fucking hard for a third party candidate.

Honestly this year was the best year third party candidates could have had with the unfavorable numbers of both candidates, and because they are both shit garbage people they will not matter.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Yup but it also doesnt help when your "third party" just tries to go for the title belt every four years. (before I posted this I was going to make sure I wasnt talking out of my ass and went to see who the libertarian party had in actual positions of power... sadly this is what I got back.

The problem is that third parties have the brass ring problem - they want to aim for the Presidency first, not realizing that building a party is done from the bottom up.

Also, I am happy that Stein can no longer claim she has received the most votes as a female candidate for President.

    Huh.

Troops tend to be disproportionately libertarian.

Which makes sense, since libertarians are way more isolationist than the two real parties. A soldier has a good reason to want to vote for a Johnson or a Paul over a Bush.

There is absolutely room in the electoral system for someone to launch an independent bid and credibly threaten. The problem is such a person would need to be politically savvy, and you don't get to be that unless you've worked with one of the major parties for years.

Ross Perot was a total dingbat and he threatened into the summer. I think someone smarter and better than him gets a lot further

neither. It's whatever you like. I'm a fan of the cowboy hat and the laser gun personally.

My whole problem with all these bathroom arguments is that I hate the entire concept of shared public bathrooms. I don't so much mind the public bathrooms at some restaurants where the bathroom is made for one person to go in there and close and lock the door. That's great. But this whole pooping-next-to-other-people thing is not something I have ever been able to do. I'd rather just hold it. Putting a worthless partial wall between another dude's sputtering, smoldering asshole and my face doesn't do much for either privacy or my urge to vomit.

And honestly, I would prefer to share a bathroom with any and every trans person on earth before I would want to share a bathroom with:

--Guy who uses the urinal/stall directly next to yours even though seven other ones are open
--Guy who does above thing but ALSO starts talking to you. ("Nice weather we're having!" *huge splattery fart*)
--Guy who can't use a toilet/urinal without spitting on/in it first. (Based on my observation, this is at least 20 to 30 percent of the male population.)

I just had to quote this. What is the deal with people spitting in the urinal? I seriously never got it.

Perot proved that it could still be done 25 years ago. He could have won a few states at least if he hadn't quit and then restarted his campaign midway through the year. The hardest part is the petition to get on the ballot in all fifty states, but once you're there, it's all about having the right message, and he had a message that worked at the time when the Democrats were largely discredited (before his vote-siphoning got Bill elected and helped to rehab the party's image) and the Republicans were riven by the Reagan deficits and Bush's breaking of the tax pledge.

The libertarian party in particular has plenty of on-paper appeal, take the Republican talking point about lean, responsible government and toss in isolationism and a laissez-faire outlook on the culture wars and you could outmaneuver both parties, again, on paper. It's just that because it's so much easier to get heard if you're in a major party, most people with any competence or any real ambition stick with the major parties because they're infinitely more likely to carry you further.

Bloomberg in a year like this would be taking the not Trump and not Hillary voters. That is a non zero number.

I'm almost disappointed he didn't because it likely would have fractured the GOP into a Bloomberg supporting faction and the Trump fraction.

I think someone else posted this earlier, but the Libertarian big mistake was trying to play the "both parties are bad" game this year and nothing else. If they had started on Trump from the right they might have been able to cleave off the Ryanites, and then try to grab the not Hillary people after that.
