Also I saw AI B Wings flying around and was shot down by a TiE Defender, but I can't actually fly them? Why must you taunt me EA?!
Female stormtroopers are still in, they're just a little harder to distinguish since you cant see their face.
There are also female officers and I think a couple other female Empire characters which are more distinguishable (and have a wide array of customizable faces).
I'm with you on the Tie Defender and B-Wing thing though, I'd love the chance to fly those around.
Its still too hard to Cap R2 if he gets stopped in a room.
Enemies just camp down and barrage out the door non-stop and I die 25 times.
flank! seriously, the map allows for a few different paths around. Also, the personal shield is a great distraction. If you pop it and run in, everyone on the other team will start shooting you, giving your team a chance to jump on them.
Man, I was initially pretty down on this game. The Death Star stuff looked pretty interesting, so I picked up the season pass when it went on sale.
This has turned into a really great game. They've toned down the sniping, really fleshed out the modes, and tuned everything to a razor's edge. The Hutt contracts do a great job of giving you a focus and encouraging experimentation. Even the single player stuff is pretty great.
Yeah, I actually played a bit these past two days and man is it so much better. I still suck at flying, but at least now it seems that I can actually blow ships up. Even shot down one or two Alliance fighters!!! I have never done that before so I was thrilled. Still have no idea what the advantage is taking the TIE over the Squint, but I still love flying them (think it is their secondary weapon?). I exclusively played the Death Star because I wanted to see it. Even managed to win as the Rebels because on the rescue R2 mode I snagged the hero token, jumped in as Chewbacca and base rushed them. Stomping, blasting and tearing up Imperials like they were paper dolls was great. My team actually followed me and they snagged R2 while I escorted them out with bowcaster blasts and that ground pound skill of his. Then we blew up the Death Star in the next round because somehow we managed to keep their team occupied while there was a good trench run going on.
All in all I have to say I have not been that excited for this game since launch. Even bought some of the new close quarter cards and used Han's blaster since I bought the expensive version at launch.
So when does bfront 2 come out. I really wanted to love this game but man did it not hit any buttons the first time I had played it with my buddies. Everyone ditched it so quick made me super disappointed...
Maybe there is hope in bf2?
I saw a kid get handed a JB poster by who I presume was his parents outside my store today....he tore it in half infront of his horrified parents.....There's hope for our youth yet!

Honestly, I'd go back for a sale for the DLC if you are on consoles. There's still a large player base, and the game is in great shape. If it had released like this, it would be a game of the year contender.

I think the fact that it is really a pick up and play kinda game is what makes it good and bad at the same time.

One thing that is pretty impressive is that all of the weapons are fairly balanced. There is no overpowered gun or ability - especially after they nerfed homing shot. It all depends on your play-style and some of the guns you unlock early are the best balanced in the game.
The dl44 was super popular at the start of the game. E11 was my jam seemed to be the most balanced in terms of my play style.
Jet packs for days too which sort of made it unfun.

If I grab the Death Star DLC to jump back into this game (having no other DLC yet), am I missing out on a lot of new weapons and items, or will I just not be able to play the other new maps?

Ultimate edition announced to be released in November. Contains the game and all the DLC for $40. Definitely worth for new players, not so much for those of us who felt the sting of the $60 base game. Hopefully they reduce the Season Pass price to $20? I might buy in that.

Was just thinking that I got it for $40 from GMG and then remembered the ridiculousness with the keys upon release. Ugh.

And that VR support is going to be entirely why I buy this game.
You know, when the cheap version with everything comes out.

wasn't there a cheap/knock-off port of X-Wing Alliance that had something similar, but it fell on its face?
I've had this since Xmas last year and played two of the training missions. I actually fancy putting a bit of time in to it now, but is the DLC mandatory or will I get on ok with the base game? I'm literally talking of maybe playing 30minutes to an hour a week or something.

Base game is fine, although as stated above all the DLC is available to play this weekend, and it's 4x XP.
Personally I am playing on PC and finding matches takes about a minute, but still am OK finding them. There's a lot of good players roaming around though, and I am not one of them.

I'm in a similar situation. I haven't played much since Xmas, but I'm interested in getting back into the game and with the season pass on sale for $20 I wanted to see if it would be worth grabbing.
The season pass is definitely worth it at 20 bucks, I would say. There's really a lot of content hidden behind that paywall at this point, and each DLC is better than the last. If nothing else, it's easier to find games on PC if you have access to all the ways in which people are playing the game.
It'll feel a bit weird to see these new characters thrown into the mix, to be honest. On the other hand, the new location seems sweet af and I'm really curious about the new game mode.
Played a few of the scariff maps last night. Super pretty maps so far the turning point one I played was interesting because the jungle is so thick if you are sneaky you can really do some work flanking and plinking at people

I'm surprised they didn't go back into randomizing voice casting for the new helmet-mandatory classes.

Seriously? That's fantastic. I will absolutely play this weekend as schedule allows.
In all honesty, I would have purchased the season pass had the PC population been stronger.
