In MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries you will adopt the role of a rookie MechWarrior pilot thrust into combat as the Third Succession War continues to fracture the Inner Sphere. Take contracts from the factions of your choosing and engage in tactical, first-person, PvE ‘Mech combat through an immersive, career-based Mercenary campaign driven by player choice. Victory, prestige, and profit will not only require skill on the battlefield, but in the acquisition, maintenance, and enhancement of your BattleMechs.
Set for release in 2018, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is under development by a dedicated team at Piranha Games. MechWarrior Online, Piranha’s existing F2P multiplayer-focused tactical ‘Mech combat game, will continue its ongoing live development by the MWO team at Piranha.

I was thinking that whole trailer was probably all cinematic bullshot like the MW5/MWO announcement trailer was, but then I watched it again and now I think it's probably in-engine. What with the way the mech moves kind of awkwardly and with a lot of forward/backward inertia and bumps into the sides of buildings like you do when you're actually playing those games, and the camera control felt mouse-movement-y during the mech-porn part at the start rather than cinematically smoothed out. The graphics and particles on display in battle were too modest for a gussied-up not-in-engine cinematic trailer, no one can ever resist putting more elaborate particle systems and lighting and much more realistic looking smoke effects in pre-rendered cinematic stuff.
but then I realized that I don't mind even if it is all bullshot because I'm not worried about that studio's ability to deliver the correct look and feel, since they made MWO, so the only part of the trailer that matters to me is the fact that they are announcing a new single-player-campaign mechwarrior game. Woo!
Everyone i know who played it seemed to think it was bad, and i kept hearing it was going to get closed down, but that might have just been an in joke i never got.
MvC 3 re-release on pc? Woo!
I suck at fighting games, so I probably won't get much out of the multiplayer portion, but MvC insanity is something I enjoy

Everything else about the game aside, I thought the "driving the mechs and shooting" parts felt good like how I remember mechwarrior feeling. I won't defend the game built around that core gameplay though, it's a free-to-play multiplayer game through and through, and it wasn't interesting enough in the long term to keep me playing more than a few weeks.
I think there's enough of a market for a traditional, hypermasculine, babes and bullets Duke Nukem game; it's just probably not something most of us would be into.
The key thing would be actually making a game that's fun to play. If they fuck that up, then it doesn't really matter what they do with the character.
Actually, thinking about it, something similar to Bulletstorm's skillshot system wouldn't be out of place in a modern Duke Nukem game.

there's an early access dungeon crawler called book of demons that looks promising, it has a demo so you don't have to drop cash on an early access game

MWO is a perfectly alright game with some kinda shit but not uncommon f2p practices (think world of tanks) and with a setting that grognards like to get way too mad about.
It's not perfect but it's some good online stompy bot action if you ask me.
Edit: For example I've already seen some people saying the game is ruined because it's supposed to be set in 3015 but the enemy light mech in the trailer is a Raven and those don't come out until 3025.

I'd say MWO is much better about F2P than World of Tanks
Like they don't sell cash shop bullets that do more damage, at best you're likely to get mechs that give bonus MC and XP, or unique hard point configurations that usually aren't strictly better than the basic options

Well the Calling All Units DLC is out for The Crew, and I have not purchased it.
I say this, because the game itself still gets updated, and even if you don't purchase the DLC, there's a new activity for players to participate in. You get to 'escort' a fellow racer to a checkpoint while anyone who owns the DLC (or NPCs) chase you as cops until one side wins. Both sides get abilities for their cars like shielding, or EMP bombs, both with timers to cut back on the spamming. And the best part is that even if you don't get the DLC, you can still get rewarded with in-game bucks and car parts to upgrade your ride.
The downsides being you can't play as a cop (obviously) and the level cap increase only affects people with the DLC. So if you're driving a Lv.50 parted 1299-rated car, you're SOL as far as upgrades. It's still pretty fun though.
edit: And the protagonist for the DLC seems to be a lady with a non-American accent, which was surprising insofar as the game does take place in the US.
edit2: I stand corrected, everyone gets the level cap increase. I'm currently level 52 out of 60. Sweet!

hey remember how disney effectively reined in pewdiepie's petulance
Even if his popularity is waning, doesn't he still make multiple millions of dollars every year?
I'm not syaing he doesn't earn it or anything of the sort, but Pewdie Pie is not one of those Youtubers who exists on the razor's edge of being able to support themselves. His viewership could drop by half every year and he wouldn't be in danger being unable to support himself for a long time, if ever
This has nothing to do with whether or not Youtube has it out for him, I'm just wondering what qualifies as trying to kill his channel
Strictly speaking multiple youtubers have observed that Youtube has slowly over the years been changing their recommendation algorithms to de-emphasize content creators and get more views on corporate advertisements. He's probably not wrong about Youtube not working to help the people like him who contributed to the size of it today and this isn't exclusive to him.
The conclusion he's reached about why has obvious problems, but there's no reason his business model should have any less pull.

there is actually merit to the claim that recent changes to youtube have caused more prominent content creators to lose views, with things like newer algorithms putting a greater emphasis on promoting videos with active comment sections, and a confirmed bug that causes subscribers to be lost whenever a video is uploaded, among other things
but the claim that it's a conspiracy against white people, as opposed to youtube just being a shitty website, are nonsense
I probably still won't buy in to the VR hardware because it's expensive and this is the only thing I'd use it for, but at least there's finally a game concept that would tempt me to buy in to VR at all.

Pewdiepie is saying that youtube is penalising him because he is white. And just like when he said he was joining ISIS the media sites eat it up. I dunno, someone's being dumb here, I don't think it's Pewdiepie. Well, I don't think it's only Pewdiepie.

Yeah the thing with MWO is that balance issues aside the game itself is perfectly fine.
Its just that its utterly wasted on a dang f2p multiplayer lobby shooter that was made in the era of "EVERYTHING NEEDS ESPORTS HOOKS".

I hope they do cross platform multiplayer. It was pretty nice to have in SF5.
If not for 3, then at least Infinite.

Perhaps, just perhaps, a grown-ass man screaming at videogames doesn't have quite the pull it did 3-5 years ago?
