Road to Perdition is a cool movie but a bad adaptation of the source material
Like, on its own it's fine. it just sucks that we didn't get (and never will get) something that feels like the book, which was very snappy and pulpy rather than slow-paced and operatic.
Shall we decide, for the purposes of this conversation, that this makes it a bad comic book movie, but good as a movie that happens to be based on a comic book
comic book really has nothing to do with it. it's just an adaptation that takes a lot of liberties in tone and style and the liberties aren't the sort that are necessary to make the story work as a movie - obviously the book is longer and more in-depth, as books always are, but it's a bit like turning a lighthearted comedy into a grim war film or something
the movie as it stands is very good and if slow and operatic is the only way sam mendes could direct it (evidence based on his filmography suggests y) then that's fine but making it as a sort of michael mann gritty period thriller would have been a valid choice too
I would agree with this, generally. My go-to example is Daredevil. The run that Kevin Smith kicked off in like 1998 and continued through 2010 or so was consistently great for most of that time. I don't think DC has ever had a run at such high quality last that long, but there are lots of arcs and one-offs that achieve greatness (The Long Halloween, All-Star Superman, etc).

Where's Mask of the Phantasm
I forgot it and the incredibles and big hero 6. cartoons weren't really on my mind, I guess.
honestly, though, I like parts of mask of the phantasm but find other parts of it kind of soporific. it is not my favorite BTAS story by any stretch.
hahaha yesss blade was totally wesley snipes from the very beginning
this was my one concern about the comic blade
i have mentioned this before but according to patton oswalt during the filming of blade 3 snipes locked himself in his trailer and refused to communicate except by written notes slipped back and forth under his door, which he wrote in the third person...as blade
so like a note would come out and it would say "get blade a pizza"

Also the Switch's baked in web browser is garbage.
Which is fine, you will hardly ever use it, but oh man just telling facebook to only make posts from the switch that I can see, not public, was just rolling the dice and hoping that the choice i wanted on the dropdown picklist was the one the cursor would land on.
Its super erratic.

I can name a few but they're much rarer.
I think the thing is that DC as a superhero publisher is a little less adventurous than Marvel - in the 60s part of the reason Marvel recruited a bunch of talent was they let their artists work in regular shirts instead of suits and ties, and Stan Lee's original idea for Marvel was to do all the stuff other companies wouldn't let him do, like hero characters who bickered and fought with each other - but DC corporate is way more willing to invest in risky prestige projects. If a great writer or artist comes along and says I want to do my ultimate Superman story and I want it to be twelve issues long and drawn by such-and-such great artist and I want it to not be tied to ongoing soap opera continuity, DC is like "yeah you bet, sounds great". By comparison Marvel has done that like...five times ever
DC is also (or at least was, up till about 10 years ago when idiots took over) way more willing to publish work peripheral to, or outside of, the superhero genre
Also the Switch's baked in web browser is garbage.

no, perhaps my error was that I do not contemplate Blade enough
yes, clearly I do not contemplate Blade enough. I shall remedy this.
