Yeah, there were a few, and while one of them looked pretty much like "they're playing up tough guys cuddling for laughs," one of them actually looked like legitimate "these are two lovers cuddling"

Yeah, I noticed that. I didn't see any ladies in Yondu's crew (and I was keeping an eye out) I figured it was a ravager thing
But then there's lady ravagers at the end, so I guess not.
I feel like it was that way in the first film as well? It's always one of those annoying things cos it's such an easy fix to throw in some lady extras.

Hmm. I thought I did see lady Ravagers at one point.
When they fall into Rockets ambush in the woods. Though looking at the trailer, it might just be the makeup making it hard to be certain when it's a face going by in a flash.
I kinda wonder if maybe the violent, visual, very violent deaths that all the Ravagers end up with at some point made them go "No, this is a Ravager faction without women in it".
I was, as may be obvious, a bit surprised at just how much carnage there was with the Ravagers.

I'm pretty sure there was one in the montage of ravagers getting killed by Yondu.

This movie was a ton of fun and well worth the price of admission but I couldn't help but feel it was overall kinda messy and not nearly as tight as it could have been.
The middle dragged really badly, and the first act did a poor job of setting up the main conflict. The whole movie meanders a lot until it gets to the final act. Ego's fancy power point presentation was also a bad move. They needed a much better way to do that than a blatant exposition dump. Peter learns to use his powers way too quickly as well, and of all the cheesy lines, Yondu's line about using his heart to control his arrow felt the most hamfisted.
I also can't recall a reason for Mantis on Ego. She says she helps him sleep but never why he even needs sleep in the first place.
Still really fun but they did a little too much of everything.

he probably doesn't need sleep but he wants it, and is unable to do it without help
I liked that although there was the whole galaxy in danger thing going on, the final fight had much more personal stakes for the characters.
It really felt like a much smaller scale movie despite not actually being one
Which is why I could've done without the cutaways to Ego Ooze spilling out everywhere, it ruined that illusion
I thought they were going to use the cut aways to like, show the universe off a bit and establish some vague characters for later films or reference old films (like no super heroes show up to help evacuate on earth?). So that sequence was kinda weird

It might have been where the scene of Nathan Fillion as Wonder Man was supposed to be placed. But they cut it at some point in production.

This is exactly how I feel and I think it's part of why I had a hard time getting invested in the film.
Saw it earlier today. The humor was trying way too hard throughout to force the feel that the first one came across organically, and it really dampened the whole experience. In particular, I think the script leaned way too hard on the joke of strange space people using very casual human vernacular. Every time one of those gags happened, I could hear in my head the writers trying their hardest to recapture the explosive laughter of the "I don't believe anybody's 100% an asshole" bit from the first one.
And I liked a lot of the character development most of the group got, but it really highlighted for me that, aside from a couple good moments, they didn't really do anything with Quill that I got excited about. It definitely picks up in the final act, but the first two acts dragged enough that I don't know if I want to sit through them again to get to the parts I liked. In my Marvel Movie rankings overall, it's pretty low, in the same disappointing tier as Thor 2 and Iron Man 2 where it feels like they didn't have that much confidence that a sequel was ever going to happen, so nobody thought about what it might contain until it was already time to start rushing one to theaters ASAP.

You put this better than I did in the post I decided to delete, for the most part this is how I feel except for ranking. I'm not one for calling out effects issues normally but there were a couple of times in this the CG looked bad to me.
Except Jeff Bridges already played the villain in Iron Man so they wouldn't have cast him!

Maybe, though I could just as easily see them casting him anyway and lampshading his resemblance to Stane. But they deffo were like "okay let's write this role as if Jeff Bridges was gonna play it"
As an aside, I hadn't seen the Thor 3 trailer until last night, and I did an inordinate amount of bouncing in my seat for it.

Something else I just remembered.
Right before Peter starts pounding on Ego, when he thinks back to his happy memories with his friends and Yondu. That bit where he's flying with Rocket made me immediately think of So Happy Together.
I am continuing to beg Hollywood to continue casting Chris Pratt in Kurt Russell-type roles like Star-Lord and give up on this very bad idea they have that he's actually a Harrison Ford-type

So Attack on New York 3 then?
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
This movie reminded me to buy "Rumors" and for that I will forever be grateful to it.
Because, fucking shit, "Rumors" is such a good album.
I'd picked it up a few years back for Go Your Own Way, but never really listened to the whole disc. Hearing The Chain for the first time prompted a full listen. Yeah, that's a perfect album.
"The Chain" is one of those songs where they just named it wrong. I look at it and totally blank on what it sounds like, but if it had been called "Never Break the Chain" I'd always know what it is.

Is anyone else as pleased as I am that Yondu's Ravager sub-lieutenant/friend survived the whole movie? I actually grew to like his character, in the few bits he had on screen. I empathized over how hard it can feel to love someone like a father, knowing that every time he will absolutely pick his "real" kid over you.
And then of course, after he breaks them out and escapes from the Ravager ship, what is it Yondu does next? Takes them on an incredibly dangerous rescue mission for this exact charmed kid, fighting an entire living planet. Like, that guy just couldn't catch a break.
But his, "They killed all my friends" line just got me.
I really want Michael Rosenbaum in a big comic book movie. I didn't realise that was him. He has a better record for creating great comic book performances than maybe anyone.

I mean, I hate "Don't Stop," but that album is just hit after fucking hit. I mean, between "Go Your Own Way" and "The Chain," it's killer, but everything else on that album. . . Fuck. It's got "Dreams," too. . . Fuck. I'm going to listen to it right now.
Also, if you enjoy having fun, spend a half an hour or so reading up on Fleetwood Mac's follow-up album Tusk, because apparently everybody lost their minds , but just enough that they still managed to turn out a really weird and cool album, and it's kind of amazing.
Ego as an idea is dumb as rocks and I wish they'd let it be as dumb as it should be.

One thing I just realized about Ego and his plan:
So Ego gave Quill's mom cancer because reasons.
And Ego's master plan was to, essentially, give the entire universe cancer in the form of his cells.
I also really loved
That they went full comic book and had Ego's planet be a planet with a face on it.

Reasons = Ego felt Peter's mom makes him attached too much that he's tempted to settle down with her, so he cuts ties with her irreversibly (in the most horrible way possible).

He tried to pass it off on being for Peter but dude clearly loves him some tunes given that he put then on twice when Quill wasn't around
I lost my SHIT on

Steam
you could definitely tell Kurt Russel was only in the movie because they couldn't get Jeff Bridges to do the role, tho

I'm kinda bummed out Gamora and Drax didn't get more action scenes, but they did have nice character moments.
Yondu was great.
Pretty much everything was good.
Chris Pratt would have been an incredible Hawkeye.
