Big storm through here last night. Lots of tree damage, including a trunk from our backyard oak that came crashing down into our yard. About 30ft long, made a couple of nice holes in the grass.
Came home early to chop up. Fiskars axe made short work of the branches but will need a saw for the main trunk.

Yeah, that was an impressive storm. Had a big branch come down in our driveway that missed my parents' car by about a foot while they were visiting in the early evening, and things only got worse later.
We are trying to move only what we can fit in four 14x14x14" boxes and whatever we can ship for cheap to save having to rent a second vehicle which neither of us wants
even after thorough pruning we have 90lbs of books, but thanks to media mail rates that's about $40 of postage
My house's AC isn't working right, there's barely any cold air coming through the vents on the first floor (we only have first floor and basement). It was working fine a month or two ago, probably gonna have to have a guy look at it. Houses!

Ya'll are both in north Texas, right? Seems like the worst of the storm completely skipped us over in both Garland and Irving (where I work). So no damage to house or car for me.

Oooh, ok. I got confused because it seems like Michael always mentions storms when we have them too, heh. I guess we're both in Tornado Alley but that's a pretty broad area.

Here in Portland, there's a pretty big street called Killingsworth.
When I moved here last year, I saw it and giggled. Now I just say they call it that because Murdergrove was taken.

Yeah, Chicago as Ketar said. Been a rainy year.
On the house front, we're making progress. Father will helping install the garage storage rack soon so I can get some of the junk out of the basement. Funny how projects Cascade; waiting on shelving to clean basement so we finish that, plus garden stuff and other organization.

This entire conversation, down to the idea that avocados are status symbols of wealth, played out in australia last year, and it is so weird that the exact same thing down to the fruit involved is happening in America.

It makes me vaguely nervous to see a clutch of avocados like that. I feel like as soon as you get them home they're going to hatch into like tiny godzillas or something.

I think it was triggered by that rich snob Australian dude who bought up a whole bunch of shit because he got like $40k from his grandpa. He mentioned something about all millennials buying avocado on toast instead of buying properties like he did and the internet went fucking wild on him because he only could do it with his grandfather's money, not his own.

Ah ha ha, this makes it even better.
It's funny how often people who were given a monetary head start by their parents are always harping on other people for not working hard enough. I'm sure Snooty McBillionaire had to make a really tough choice between spending that 40k entirely on avocados or using it for a down payment on a house. Such willpower!

We couldn't get a deposit with 40 thousand dollars.

He is only the latest to say it. There have been others before him, and there will be more after him. People down here get weirdly fascinated by the fact that smashed avocado on toast with some feta is a delicious way to start the day, and that folks who don't own a morgage are willing to pay for it.

Yeah he was like "spending $19 on avocado on toast every morning"
Are his avocado's minted with gold or something? That shit only costs like $1-2 per avo here.
Yes I can imagine spending $20 per meal is not a wise financial decision if you're looking to buy a house, but something tells me millennials are not doing that. At least I'm not anyways. Shit is just expensive and I don't make a huge amount of money thanks to wage stagnation and a bunch of other factors.

That's AU$ in Melbourne, in the middle of the city. It's totally possible to spend $19 on breakfast, and that breakfast could well be centered around avocado on toast.
Also, your average millenial will only actually eat breakfast out once a week, max, because it turns out they enjoy catching up with friends over brunch.
I've never had avacado toast before but seeing all these food porn pictures of it at the top of every article tearing apart that other really dumb article really makes me want to try it

Y'all talking about Jessieville, AR?
I pass this intersection every time I go visit my parents' house, well, Dad's house now, and it makes me laugh/shudder every time.

OK, now I want someone to write an app that indexes any address you enter against it's estimated value and returns how many avocado toasts it's worth.
Hmmmm.
