To be fair, the idea that every character on screen is a person isn't a bad one, it was just executed... not well.

Han's stripey pants being a whole Corellian cultural thing is the worst. A pant stripe can just be a cool fashion choice, writers!
Sci fi writers aren't very imaginative. They're the kind of people who you meet on holiday who'll say "oh, you're from there? You must be a baker, I know a guy from there who's a baker too. You probably know him."

    http://stardestroyer.net/Empire/Essays/BrainBugs.html
That covers Star Trek "Brain Bugs", small minor details that are picked up by later writers and result in the flanderisation of species and other stuff. An alien has a certain feature, therefore, all aliens of that speices have that feature. Even if the episode that introduced the alien was about that alien being different from it's species. The same thing happens to Star Wars too.

Soup is code for seven right?

IIRC, Anzati had retractable face tentacles that go up your sinuses to get into your cranium, where it liquefies your brain and slurps it up (this is the "soup"). They also have hypnotic telepathic abilities or some nonsense to lure prey in.

They were basically just a terribly lame attempt to have draculas in the Star Wars EU without just straight-up being vampires.

It was really weird because they did it using the guy who was like, smoking a hookah in the cantina so it seemed to imply in retrospect that he was drinking soup through a very, very long straw.

Because whoever wrote that was a bad writer who didn't quite realize how dumb an entirely internal monologue where a guy refers to drinking brains as "drinking soup" as if he is being a Saturday morning villain double entendres-ing himself.

Well yes, that would be the problem with the execution. You focus on the protagonist, because they are doing stuff you want to watch. Some people just don't do interesting things. But they are people.

Remember when IG-88 became the Death Star

That was one of the dumb stories I loved, because one of the things they had the might and all powerful SUPER ROBOT IG-88 DO was force the elevator doors close against the Emperor. And IG-88 was so confused when the doors magically started to open.

I always had the impression that IG-88 short was meant to be kind of a shaggy dog story. That is to say, that it's meant to be tongue in cheek and part of the humor is constantly narrating about how great IG-88 thinks it is, only to undermine that by what actually happens in story.

If it hadn't been for bad timing and lack of intel that he couldn't possibly know IG-88 would have co-opted the FRIGGIN DEATH STAR. With the power of the Death Star he would have had the capabilities to destroy planets and produce and transport an entire army. He would have been able to achieve his goal of scouring life from the galaxy at that point. Sure what actually happened was funny as shit, but it was a fluke. I don't think you realize how close he actually came to winning there.

My dad got his yearly royalty check from Kevin J Anderson because somehow those two old EU short story collections he wrote stories for are still selling.

Wait, I'm curious now. Did he write stories for them, or did KJA steal something from him and have to pay him royalties as a settlement?

He wrote the Ponda Baba and Dr. Cornelius Evazan stories for Tales from Mos Eisly Catina, IIRC.

Yeah and the Ephant Mons one in Jabba’s palace.

Hey, I still have that book somewhere in my storage shed! I should yank it out and make you make him sign it one of these days heh

If you guys are looking to kill time before Last Jedi, I just found a bazillion mods for KOTOR I and II I plan on using for my next playthroughs.

    http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/

You can get a lot of them on steam, with such cool stuff as... the KOTOR 2 Restored Content mod, high resolution patch and new items which is very impressive, as the engine is not easy to mod.

the best part of the Ephant Mon story is that he reminisces about how him and Jabba were like, fuckin' gun-running, blaster-blasting pirates back in the day

@timspork's ghost tell your dad that he wrote my favorite stories from the Tales books.

No shit. Give me a prequel movie about that. It would be awesome.

So tonight's the premiere. I wonder how rian Johnson is doing

    Oh
He's fine. Everything's Fine here now thank you.
    How are you.

I think the reaction I'm most looking forward to is Lucas. I remember when rogue one came out and Lucas told Edwards he liked the movie, and he was just so happy that it was adorable

John Boyega was stuck in Atlanta, which got snowed under a bit, and almost missed the premiere (he's in LA now, I think)

    but here's what happened before:

So what you are really saying is if we want to avoid any and all incoming spoilers from those lucky few that are going to this premiere now is the last chance to forsake all tech and live off the grid until our time comes to see the movie.

I already got minor spoiled from the last 15 second TV ad I saw last night and am considering short-term Neuralizer treatment.

That Han Solo origin film is really going to test out this claim.

Sir I went to all the prequels in theaters and still managed to have fun , challenge accepted. That said the only parts of the prequels I remeber are scenes from revenge of the sith, the first two have mostly faded from memory other then Darth maul and duel of the fates .

The prequels rule so you didn't challenge yourself

The real challenge is the Clone Wars movie

(Also probably Han Solo next year)

I'll admit I'm wary of the Han Solo film, but I don't know why people are so keen to shit all over it before they've even released a trailer. At the very least, you know Donald Glover is going to put in work as Lando.
