I think Switch is the best place for Indies right now. Sony is apparently uninterested, Microsoft is trying I think(?) but slow on the uptake, and Steam is an ocean of shit that you have to be lucky to get your game noticed in.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is all "Please, go nuts on our system!"

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

Sony apparently did a bunch of heavy lifting for indies such as braindead-easy porting to Vita at the start of this gen, and their releases are clogged to the point of allowing complete crapware. Microsoft actively told indies to fuck off at the start of this gen (specifically, they said games had to appear first/at the same time on One or not at all, and huge numbers of indies chose the latter) and though they backed off of that eventually their indie releases are still light as a result.

Granted Nintendo's been doing a great job featuring indies, but I think it's a combination of a new, non-clogged platform and the cool portability thing that's really pushing them over the edge.

reposting this from the switch thread because I didn't see this one:

Does anyone know off-hand if loading a point card into your account and then spending that gives mynintendo coins?

I found out the other day getting a digital code for something from another store doesn't give you that things value in gold coins, but I'm wondering if the eshop is smart enough to distinguish between straight cashmoney and a card loaded via something else and then spending that.

I want to use some of my amazon gift cards to buy eshop cards, and am just curious if it is worth it (I realize mynintendo is highly debatable as "worth it", but not my question) to buy eshop cards and load into the eshop, or if I might as well just buy game/dlc codes directly from amazon if it makes no difference. EDIT: no difference if you don't get coins either way.

I bought an eShop card in a physical store, redeemed it, then used that balance to buy Rocket League. I got gold MyNintendo coins for the full price of Rocket League even though it was on sale.

I *think* that answers your question?

The character interactions and writing are good, easily worth $5, even though I wasn't particularly into the specific brand of supernatural they chose to include.

I own it on PC but it is very good. Worth full price and even better on sale.

Do they still sell Wii points cards? The last day to buy games from the Wii Shop Channel is in March, and it would be nice not to need to use a credit card.

I haven't seen a Wii Point card in years, so I don't think so. You might be able to get one through Amazon?

Looks like Wii Points Cards were discontinued a few years back. There are some third party sellers out there, but you'll pay out the ass for it.

That's not tied to the Wii's online.

Don’t you have to download an app on the wii to facilitate the transfer? That won’t be available anymore

Ok, looks like it is affected.

When will all Wii Shop Channel services (including the ability to re-download) be terminated?

Users will be able to add Wii Points until March 26, 2018, and purchase content on the Wii Shop Channel until January 30, 2019. In the future we will be closing all services related to the Wii Shop Channel, including the ability to redownload WiiWare and Virtual Console games, as well as the Wii System Transfer Tool, which transfers data from Wii to the Wii U system. We will announce specific details as that time approaches.

So on March 27th they'll announce that while they won't be able to make them available for sale, any games purchased on your Wii account will be downloadable on Switch.

I'm debating whether or not to grab some stuff there or not... Virtual Consoles for TG16 and SEGA stand out in my mind, but WiiWare exclusives should probably be a priority.

Why does this feel like a bigger pain now than it used to?

Why does this feel like a bigger pain now than it used to?

Because you can still download your earliest purchases on your old consoles from Microsoft and Sony and will probably be able to for years to come as they retain all their online services?

Wasn't there a site that made a full list of all the titles on the Wii Shop Channel that have not made their way to any other online service?

Kotaku has a list. I don't think it's comprehensive but it hits all the high notes.

Konami’s “Rebirth” games are rumored to get Switch ports soon.

Blaster Master Overdrive is bad; inferior to Blaster Master Zero in just about every way, according to DigitalFoundry.
