well last year I brought my SP and i looked around, realised nobody had one, and never took it out ^-^ besides, if im gonna be there 3 days, it helps to have stuff to do with other people besides BYOC =\ besides, the friend im going with isnt bringing his computer, but hes getting a DS, would be kinda lame to leave him out =p

Also, the DS might (to me it is) be the best gaming system ever made. At least in terms of quantity of fun, challenging, and innovative games.

I use my PSP a lot more at work. Watching movies makes time fly when your a Security Guard. :D Never use it at PAX though because why play something you own? heh Maybe if people played it more and their were good mutiplayer games.

    Yeah.
There were four of us in my group this year,
and three of us had DS's.
In fact, after our flight got cancelled/postponed to 5AM,
we took my friend to buy his DS.
The one who didn't have one was very sad/had to borrow mine when he wanted to play.
Which ='d a very hairy, mountainy looking man playing a pink DS lite with a Hello Kitty sticker on it.. :P

    Also, I counted PSP's.
    I saw one.

After a few years of PAX it seems that the biggest reason to get a DS is simply for pictochat. If nothing else but to enjoy the sharing of poorly drawn wangs, there might have been some bewbs but the majority of the graphical artwork being shared was masculine in nature. And between the drawings was a running commentary of the current event or line waiting. If nothing more I would feel this value enough to purchase the DS for pax alone. But as others have mentioned it does offer some entertaining games and does a pretty good job of allowing you to play when and where you want.

The PSP is not a bad portable device and in fact it was my first purchase as it was much sleaker and smaller then the original DS block. And with the older firmware ability to run homebrew and emulate many of the original consoles it still is used often when I travel. But its inability to draw and chat with others does limit its appeal at such events as PAX.

So from my own experience the PSP stays in the car while the DS goes with me in my pocket when at pax. As for which is better the DS brick or DS light I would favor the lite given its smaller form and thus easier to take with you with out having to put it in a bag of holding.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

i would never buy a ds simply for chatting, what a waste of money =( (for me at least, im still in HS lol) Ya.. so THATS what people were doing with their DS's while waiting in line. I couldnt figure out what they were doing, but ya.. that makes a lot more sense =) I guess I was really missing out on a lot without a DS xd

I was playing multiplayer Tetris with those surrounding me.
DS's are really good at starting conversations outside of pictochat,
as someone will yell "Anyone interested in _____?"
and then you'll get a couple people playing a game against/with each other.
That's what happened with Tetris for me, and later, when we finally got MarioKart.
Plus, you CAN chat in pictochat, it's kinda fun, and people DO draw a lot of cool things.

My (now ex) bf and I decided to get DS's pre-PAX for our 2-year anniversary presents.
Originally, we were going to get a puppy.. but hell, I can always get Nintendogs. :)

My DS Lite was hands down the best thing I bought in 2006. I still play it nearly every single day. And it's definitely a must at PAX. Waiting in line, or if you just want to chill a bit, open up PictoChat and see what's up. We played multiplayer Tetris mostly. I didn't have MarioKart but it seemed very popular. I even found someone to help me out with the multiplayer stuff on Animal Crossing. Good Times.

If anyone wants to see my PAX pixs, head on over to my MySpace page, it's in the sig.

Well, Tetris and MarioKart are the two easyist multiplayer games. Any you don't even have to own a copy to play, due to the fact you can play off someone that does have it.

Besided, if you ask my friends with me. I myself was playing Tetris all the time(when not in PictoChat). Also on Saturday, I had about 9 people drinking and play Tetris after the concerts.

Most multiplayer DS games support some sort of download play.

Whatever you do, don't attempt wireless card play in the line.

    It just won't work.

I think some poor guy spent about an hour trying to download Metroid Prime Hunters off the DS I was using.

Nintendo had no idea the abuse the DS WiFi would be put through at PAX when they released the system.

I got Tetris going for awhile on Friday, while waiting in line. It was pretty cool. Me, my ex, and a couple of people around us. Didn't last terribly long though.
