Gosh amighty would it be hard for me to pick my favorite Neko Case song
Sometimes it's "The Pharaohs," sometimes it's "Star Witness," sometimes it's "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood."
But the one that pops up the most frequently when I try to answer the question miiiiight be "The Next Time You Say 'Forever'"
If only because, dang, what a perfect and succinct vessel for her ethos. "The next time you say 'forever,' I will punch you in your face. Just because you don't believe it, doesn't mean I didn't mean it. You never know when I'll show you the 'never.'" Gosh. Gosh!

absolute favorite neko case for me i can confidently, consistently, joyfully answer with star witness, although it's really like an album's worth of favorite material and moments in a single song
the hypnotic, swaying instrumentation. the entire journey she takes us on in the second stanza. "the look on your face yanks my neck on the chain..." is perhaps the most sensuously bittersweet lyric&delivery i've ever heard. the outro, the piano playing us out at the very end, every single moment of this song is a gift we don't deserve.
*not that i have any shortage of favorite neko case songs, either from her solo work or with her other bands
...why yes, neko is one of my all time favorite musicians. she just announced a new album yesterday, too

Yeah I was just listening to the announcement song!
Some really slick and dark New Retro Wave from ALEX, with fantastic vocals from Rachel McAlpine. They've mixed her voice to be a little out of key in places, blending it back into key as the chords change, lends a great 80s vibe to the whole thing, an a slightly off-kilter, aggressive feel to the track as a whole.
I've listened to a lot of ALEX recently and their stuff is great. He does a lot of collab work with McAlpine and she absolute nails that breathy, neon, half-high at the club vocal feel. Definitely recommend!

I need to check this out myself, I've been getting into some stuff like that recently so it sounds neat.
also I've been listening to this album for a few days.

so last June when I was on vacation I heard a bit of a song in the hotel coffee shop. I couldn't make out the lyrics, but it was catchy and had a funky horn hook, so naturally it got stuck in my head.
I tried to find it but without much to go on had no success. I'd hear it in the background of hockey games on TV, taunting me (I once spent an hour trawling through Toronto Maple Leafs in-arena music playlists trying to find it)
I *finally* tracked it down today, and this is the top comment on the video
okay, i feel like I've run across Battle Tapes before, but nothing turns up in a search here, so!
anyway, this was playing at the gym today, good driving workout music heyooooo
somebody mash up Feel the Same & Big Data - Dangerous
e: the main thing I've been listening to around the house is a decent psybient playlist. it's mostly stuck to the softer side, so it's real good background.

Been listening to a bunch of 90's stuff thanks to the nostalgia thread on here, but had to break today to listen to some 80's afro-pop re-issued a few years back. The William Onyeabor collection is some dope ass shit y'all.
Thanks to this tweet Fleetwood Mac's 1977 song Dreams is at #14 on the Billboard Hot Rock singles chart, and the album Rumors is at #13 on the Top Rock Albums chart:

i caught this in a spotify mix the other day and while it's certainly nice to listen to, her voice is SO similar to Shania's here that it sits in a weird impression-y valley
like without the video i think you could convince people it was an extremely late remix

So for years now I've listened to a band from Seattle called Rabbit Junk
They're a kind of experimental industrial/metal/thrash/electro act that turned out to be really good and have released several albums over the years
Anyway, they released an album this January and it's pretty awesome. So I recommend that. And this is one of my favourite records off it! If you want a band that's something different, who vary things up, but are very much good at what they do, then you might want to give them a listen!

Found this band Paint the Sky Red by hopping around YouTube recommendations and they give me serious The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place era Explosions in the Sky vibes in all the best ways.
