So I have a game coming up where I am part of a team and have approximately 1k points to spend on my army. Choosing between Death Guard and Nurgle as my Necrons aren't ready yet, but deciding I want to primarily support my partners army as he's more limited on models.
I've got most of it worked out if I go Death Guard, but due to detachment limits / my other choices, I have 157 points left.
Do I go Foul Blightspawn and 21 cultists or a Helbrute with twin lascannon and missile launcher?
My favorite thing about the Necron Wraiths is that they can shoot and charge even if they fell back because of Wraith form. It allows me to abuse the Novokh dynasty Awakened by Murder rule which let's me reroll failed hit rolls for a Novokh unit that charged, was charged, or performed a heroic intervention this turn.
I still haven't had a chance to use the Novokh specific stratagem Blood Rites which gives my Novokh units a second fight phase after the first ends.
I can't wait until my Necrons are done. They play differently than my Death Guard and Nurgle, so it'll be exciting.
I vote cultist+blightspawn. More bang for your buck than the helbrute. I have basically retired my helbrutes right now and instead using my big daemon engines. Though this weekend I think I am going to try out the AL list again. I think the base list is vicious.

Its a power armor tide. I did a test game in vassal to get the feel of the list. The zerkers/possessed have boxes to run around in. But I can also swap one or the other out and put in the havocs with plasma and infiltrate or another. The CSM are back line holders with good fire power. Termis do their thing. I had a quick built black legion list that I think had 60 power armor bodies in it? Also Abbadon with a termi contingent and some bikes. It was good but it felt fluffy.
Like (again, house rules, I know this is illegal) in our game, it'll be Death Guard / Orks versus Craftworld Eldar / Blood Angels (or Imperial guard. or a mix of both. Unsure yet). The Ork player is new to our group so he's limited on models, but still has a lot more than I expected, so he's bringing like 60+ boyz, Nobs, some Storm Boys, 4 Killa Kans, a Trukk, some other stuff etc. They shoot for shit and they're all melee and the player has lost every game he's played thus far, so I'm like let us try to win.
So my list is basically Daemon Prince, PBC x3 with plaguespitters, 2 Bloat Drones with FLESHMOWERS (I want to try something different am I dumb? They seem like they have a RIDICULOUS amount of strong attacks), and 157 pts left because a Spearhead detachment doesn't allow a third Bloat Drone.
It doesn't feel fluffy, which irritates me, but the goal is to win this time to make the Ork player feel good, hence my internal argument over 21 cultists and a Foul Blightspawn versus a Helbrute....but it's not fluffy.
I want to use MARINES.....so that's why I like your list, Mazzyx, feels fluffy and dangerous
Helbrutes die easy, though, so I think you're right.

Amen. (Edit: wrt to "I want to play a marines list featuring marines). I really hope the FAQ does something to address the inherent mathematical problems.
I mean, this is something that can be fixed with just point costs. marines cost less, guardsmen and cultists cost a lot more, etc. but I'd appreciate a change to how Armor Pen works or how Command Points are generated or anything clever.
FAQ update apparently going live "in the next half hour" as per this interview!
Edit: Some of these dev interview comments are a little baffling lol "We found that command points were very unfair between some armies who can easily fill out a Battalion and thus have as many command points as they want, vs. those who can't. So we're going to increase the number of command points that Battalions give to +5 instead of +3" ...uh what?
I'm hoping there's something else they haven't mentioned yet that has this make sense, lol
Edit 2: New beta rule to kill soup, just as rumored, can't use Chaos, Imperium or Aeldari as the faction keyword, but everyone was remarking that this does nothing to stop the best Chaos soup ("Heretic Astartes") and they outright state aloud that CSM can still bring Daemons too...? Why even bother excluding "Chaos" then?

Does the anti soup bust AdMech and Knights or do they share some other keyword? Not near my dex at the moment.
Most of the time if I go second I have to deep strike into my own deployment zone anyway, lol. IMHO that rule should only apply to things that are deep striking via strategems, anyway.
Honestly though who thinks Deep Strike is the problem for alpha strikes? Everyone is screening out deep strikers with their walls of chaff, it's not about alpha strikes for me it's about getting 5" movement units somewhere remotely useful. This just gives the horde a turn to surge forth and deny another few inches of the board.

First its beta so not in the FAQ proper yet. But you can use them, just your knights are in a knights detachment and your mechanichus are in the mechanicus detachment. Right now mixing them gives you cps but removes special abilities anyway.

Maybe they aren’t happy with people being forced to bring a bunch of cheap chaff units just to deny first turn deep strikes?

I am going to be super fucking salty if Aeldari armies cease to exist because I literally just picked up a Harlequins army to run alongside my Dark Eldar.
You just do not get CP if you run them in the same detachment is what it sounds like. Just run your harlis in a different detachment from your DE.
Huh. Were people running mixed detachments that frequently? I thought most of the trouble came from armies that were already running multiple detachments.

Magnus/Morty was an older combo. But this will nerf taking celestine in a guard group and a few other things like GC with Nids and so on.
But I have 7 Bloat Drones. I didn't even TRY to accumulate them past the three, it just happened (i.e., eBay shipment late, he threw in a free painted bloat drone, etc.)

Oh holy shit, Ynnari is one of the faction keywords that can't form a legal detachment anymore.
Just... just retcon the Ynnari, GW. You clearly don't want them to exist any more.
Edit: Reading more, maybe it's not that bad. It sort of looks like the Ynnari HQs can take Craftworld/Drukhari/Harlequin Warlord Traits and Relics now?
What does it mean by datasheet in the organized play part?
Up to three units per army so say you can only take three bloat drones and so on.
To be slightly more specific you can select a unit entry from a codex three times.
So something like a Dread where you can take 1-3 Dreads per unit entry, but they fight as individual units after that, would still allow you to take 3x3 dreads for 9 dreads on the table.
I know I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up, but this is supremely disappointing. I don't even understand what they needed the extra delay for.
Things that are good, got better (all those cheap chaff units tend to be troops and now given even more CP) and things that are bad got tools randomly taken away (so it's even harder to deep strike terminators but those infiltrating Alpha Legion cultists are exempt? Ok...)
So reading the update to the Battle Brothers rule... Can still I run a battalion of Death Guard and still attach a Thousand Sons patrol detachment to it, and then end up with two separate battleforged detachments with their own stratagems, etc?
I guess I don't understand how that update changes the rules...

Ehhh...I disagree with some of this.
The delay was probably the spam rule+play testing.
The deepstrike rule is beta. It is not in yet, it is optional. Test it and give feedback. I rarely deepstruck termis first turn anyway because I would be hitting chaff. I would hit them second or third turn instead. And to top it off this hurts a lot of current power units like psions from their take objective turn 1, 2+ cover save turn 2.
Overall it is a pretty decent FAQ. I am not sure what the CP thought process is but I will have 14 in my standard CSM list instead of 10 which doesn't hurt.

Yes.
You can’t run say Ahriman and Typhus as your HQs in the same battalion for example. The way your doing it already is how the beta rule wants it to be done.
I kind of wish it was more / a bigger shake up. I mean, maybe that's what Chapter Approved will be, but besides a few of the point changes (which nerfed Eldar a bit, YAY), it seems like it's not really a huge change. At least not with my circle of friends.
GRANTED, none of us ever spammed more than 3 of a unit anyways (due to limitation of models owned), but I guess I was getting close as I have 3 PBCs and 7 Bloats (not that I would ever have used more than 3 anyways).
We'll probably run the deep strike beta rule to see what happens. My Thousand Son buddy is happy.
