I've slowly started to build a FLAC library. It's only a tiny fraction of my 320 mp3 library so far, and I won't be converting/upgrading everything, but the carrot is on the stick.
Meanwhile, bought a pile of the Borknagar CDs I didn't have. Only missing Urd in physical.

Oh, you can get far, far more expensive than Monster cables.

I wouldn’t expect someone in a pornogrind band to be a mass shooter, but someone who writes one song after another about raping and mutilating women is telling you something about themselves
Reading that made me think of the most notorious era of the Norwegian black metal scene. And the explosives found in Varg's apartment following his arrest for Euronymous' murder. It's not the same thing, of course not, but I wonder if Varg circa 1993 would have actually cared if he'd killed people if/when he blew up whatever it was he was going to blow up (probably Nidaros Cathedral), even if killing wasn't his primary intent.
(Sorry for the divergence, still just kind of got Lords of Chaos on the brain.)

Neckbeard Deathcamp had to publicly distance himself (themselves?) from the shooter after a bunch of media organizations ran with reports that he was part of the band. There’s a whole thread but the last tweet gets the point across.
People "ran with reports" that he was part of the band because those dumb fucks talked on Twitter like they knew him when they supposedly only recognized him from Facebook posts in metal groups, and even that is only if you take these assholes at their word. Just like they used to claim they were from "France", now it turns out they're in the midwest somewhere.
NBDC is a dumb, hacky, garbage-ass band, I had a whole exhortation on this last year in this thread when they were first getting popular. I said that their lyrics and themes were essentially no different than hardcore right winger bands, and that violent people do not understand irony and instead choose to subsume it into their fucked up worldview. Lo and behold.
"Reporters" wouldn't have been confused if the NBDC kiddies didn't use every opportunity to aggrandize themselves, even a fucking mass shooting.
I hate these idiots. They skirt by on the bare minimum because they pretend to have meaningful politics when all they are is a bunch of leftypol dipshits who hit a nerve at the right time because people are incapable of considering anything beyond surface level and are so starved for representation that they turn to these assholes.
THEIR MUSIC SUCKS, that should be one's first clue. It was mine 13 months ago and it proved itself from there.
Can't blame you, they deleted the tweets when they started getting called out. Right wing internet psychos ran with the association after some other, more normal irresponsible outlets first reported it. I forgot where I read it first, but it was one of those sites like Splinter or something.
They honestly brought it on themselves because they're constantly trying to meme and build their brand, because they're a hacky poser band with no real convictions.
The new Tool song somehow sounds both better than I was expecting, and yet exactly like what I was expecting.
I loved them back in like grade 9 and 10. I went back and listened to Opiate and Undertow the other day and it's just such a different sound and vibe. But also these days I'm mostly sick of Maynard's shit.

Yeah, I’m listening to the single right now and it’s pretty much what I thought it would be.
Pity they released their best album in 1996.
I’m still going to buy the vinyl.

Well, that was definitely a new Tool song.
And by new I mean that I’d never heard it before. It could have been on their last album for all I know. I think I only listened to the whole album twice.
I miss 1996.

Somehow I completely missed Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Alive from 2016 (or '17, seems to be slight confusion). That fair thunders out of the ol' speakers.
I'll put on Tool or A Perfect Circle as acceptable background music, they have that clinical, drugged out atmosphere which occasionally scratches the itch if I'm in that kind of mood (them or Radiohead), and they're certainly far more interesting than most commercial rock. I've been listening to them on and off since their original EP, but I've just never gone completely crazy over them like some people do, especially when people are freaking out about how they're such amazing musicians. Am I listening to a different band? I mean I like how the rhythm section plays and how the guitars are often just more atmospheric details, but I've never been wowed.
That said, I can completely understand why it puts some people to sleep and all the other criticism leveled at them, I've been there myself. This new tune has its moments, and it had better...because it has a lot of minutes.

Here's something I do like. Cloak has a new album in the pipes. Mix of black metal and rock and roll, like Wormwitch and Tribulation. Def a catchy song.

I wanna see what they said, I only saw the tweets from the next day
To this day Tool remains the worst big name act that I've seen live.
I saw them live in 2001, but I didn't find them to be bad. They performed their music well. It just bored me. It probably doesn't help that Fantomas was the opening band.
I haven't listened to the new song yet, but their stuff hasn't truly grabbed me in decades. And yet I still kept buying their albums, although to be fair they only put out two albums after Ænima.
All right, time to listen to this new one, I guess...
edit: it's OK. It just...sounds like what they've done for their last two albums.

I mean, the worst "band" I've ever seen live was when my wife dragged me to see some chud husband of one of her mom's group members who did shitty acoustic pop and forget half the words to his songs. But he did have a CD so he should know better.
The worst band period that I've ever seen was a guy with a black fedora, and oversized black button down, and a wallet chain shuffling on stage with a group of people who were quite obviously hired guns, "singing" brilliant "lyrics" such as "Doomsday's Coming/All over your face" and maling a dismissive jerk off motion with his hand each time. He started getting in fights with guys in the crowd making fun of him. I think he was opening for... Gamma Ray? It was a quite a few years ago at this point.Truly terrible.

It's a new Tool single. I've never cared much for them and this seems even more meandering and wanky than their prior stuff.

Consider yourself fortunate that your bar only goes that low.
I've seen The Union Underground and Papa Roach live.
Have to think about that. I mean. I've seen several I wasn't into (in support slots and the like), but that's not the same thing.

Saw Cloak open for Khemmis a few weeks ago. They were alright but didn't sound great live unfortunately. I think they did play this track though.
Khemmis fucking killed though.

Kind of ruined the whole synthwave subgenre for me.
