Was the particular person you guys were talking about Hisoka? Because that guy seems like a lot.
When the gourmet hunters introduced themselves, I was hoping that Toriko would show up somehow. That’s the second time it made me think of Toriko, besides the intro narration

Also, a LOT of people just straight up died, huh?
Yep.
The Hunter exam shows you that life can be real cheap around these parts.

So I just finished Season 1 of My Hero Academia. I'm enjoying it for the most part, but good lord is it trying too hard. If they would take it down a couple notches most of the time, then the intense/inspirational moments and upswelling music would hit a lot better for me.

I feel like MHA is very sincere and All Might punching Nomu into low orbit got me super pumped
Oh for sure. The highs are really fun. I just wish the dialogue and music would calm down a bit outside of the times when shit is getting real.
I'm enjoying the more subdued characters the most. Sue is my favorite. Bakugo, on the other hand, should have had an aneurysm halfway through the first season.

hisoka is a very good antagonist
I am less comfortable with Hisoka as time goes on

Which is impressive, since he starts with maiming and murdering people.

I am catching up on Virgins Empire. It's definitely fully transformed from a fanservicey sorta series to... Well, there's still fanservice occasionally, but its really just focused on being an interesting romance anthology series. Which it's quite good at!
Also I would really love to read an interview with the author. He started out as just an artist for other people's stories, but he's now written several critically-acclaimed yuri series, as well as some yaoi titles, and he's always had a kind of interesting mix of Japanese and American comic style. It would be interesting to find out more about his personal life.
Anyway, rating the current storylines for the like, 1 other person who reads this series...
Kanae / Haruka - Haruka's super hitting on Kanae, and then feels all guilty because oh god I always get feelings for a new friend and then I ruin it and I'm terrible. Which would be kinda sad except Kanae meanwhile is like, "Holy shit I think she's hitting on me, this is awesome!" It's nice to see Kanae so happy after she was miserable and lonely for so long.
Ai / Chie - They're still the only official couple, and are adorable. Technically they're in the closet about that, but they're also terrible at it.
Onibi / Nao - Onibi is a titan among schoolgirls, respected president of the mighty manga club, and the secretest hottie of all secret hotties. Meanwhile Nao is boring. Rating them highly mostly because I'm real curious how the hell they're gonna make this work.
MahiMahi - The Mahi and Mahi duo used to be the worst, because they're annoying as hell. They're still annoying as hell, but after a while they break you and you actually start to like them and their constant trolling of the other ships.
Honoka / Elisha - It feels like they've been in a holding pattern for like 3/4 of the manga. Honoka worries about Elisha leaving Japan, Elisha doesn't worry about anything, they draw yaoi together. Honoka gradually winning her battle against teenaged "But I don't wanna have fun!"-ism is nice though.
Everyone else lives down here somewhere
The absolute pits rank:
Kanae / Haruka: Technically I guess they're also officially dating, except Kanae is a shitty user who's emotionally manipulating a younger girl to make herself feel okay about herself. But she shouldn't feel OK, because she's awful. Just the worst. They just need to break up.

imagine the modern world, but there's a bunch of jojo villains running around that belong to a self-policing union who basically cannot be punished for their crimes because what fucking cop is going to try and capture kira?
I feel like the guide looking way more realistic is a meta joke
since basically the whole chapter is just "I went to india and made small talk to my tour guide, errr uh I mean this side character did?"

im very excited for the fall 2019 anime season. Suplex isekai, macademia, food wars, a bunch of other stuff, all seem like surefire hits for me
This pushed me to have a look at the new season, there are some potentially interesting looking shows there. Carole and Tuesday has been the first in several years I've watched that wasn't MHA, Haikyuu! or Jojo.
District Public Prosecutors Office, is investigating a case of illegal clinical research related to a drug company and a university. During the investigation, he finds a file that Shin Inaba, an anesthesiologist, kept, which includes blood that is mixed with hair, skin, and a paper written with letter F. As he investigates, he realized there's a hidden plot that is connected with a huge election as well as to a certain person who is in charge of it.
The East Side of Shinjuku Ward… The neon-lit Kabuki-chou district stretches across the center of this chaotic city. Where light shines, there are also deep shadows. The curtains rise on this night stage where bizarre murders occurred! Is this suspense? No, comedy? An indistinguishable drama is about to begin…
Looking forward to that third season of Chihayafuru too.

I wish I liked Psycho-pass more than I did
a lot of the first season was cool, but the second one just felt really lackluster and uninspired to me
idk maybe a third go might be okay
I really just want a GitS: SAC sequel to fill my postcyberpunk needs

EDIT: that is HxH world
EDIT2: also theres a bunch of horrifying monsters
The indian people in this chapter are drawn so much more detailed than everything else. It's almost a bit freaky.
