Hmmm, watching the final 6 episodes of Evangelion for the first time, right before bedtime, wasn't a good idea. Just wrap up the cool weird robot show before sleeping, I thought.
Rokudou no Onna-tachi is vastly less creepy than it could have been.
I think the thing that helps is that the main character is actually extremely aware of how creepy his power could be, and so he does everything he can to not take advantage of anyone.
I was actually surprised at how wholesome the series actually turned out. You know, except for all the violence and property destruction.

Is it slapstick violence, at least?
For the most part, though at one point a character has his fingers broken with a bottle cap opener, but it happens off-panel. That was probably the worst case, it's mostly people getting slammed into walls really hard and passing out instead of anyone getting maimed or anything. No gore aside from the occasional blood running down the forehead bit.
Also there's lot of bad language. Forgot to mention that.

I think they make the protagonist pay lip service to the idea that it's creepy and bad without actually doing anything to address it in the story. Probably so that they can leave that plot thread dangling until they need to finish the series up. So it feels like a have-cake-and-eat-it-too condemnation. It's actually more jarring to me that the protagonist seems to realize his relationship with the main heroine is based on fucked up mind control magic that forces her to like him and just sort of shrugs his shoulders and says "oh well" and has a fun time living a lie. I had a theory they were going to resolve it by saying that she was never affected by the curse in the first place, for some comedic reason like she's too dumb to even understand good and evil, and thus she must genuinely like him on her own. But then they doubled down on the idea that she's THE MOST affected by evil-affecting things by showing the evil-suppressing beads making her basically brain-dead.

Going to spoiler my reply since it's getting later into the manga and a part I just got to.
For a while I thought they were going with her being an emotionless psychopath before the magic caused her to feel love as the first real emotion she'd ever felt, but then they revealed that apparently she was completely evil before as opposed to emotionless. However, I don't think the protagonist is just paying lip service or having his cake and eating it too as he refuses to date any of the women effected by the magic and does everything he can to protect their feelings and try to improve their lives. He's also routinely gotten the shit kicked out of him for doing so. The only thing he should be doing more is looking into how to break the spell (I was kind of surprised they never brought it up with the priest who had the beads), but I assume that's being saved for the ending (along with the mystery of his supposedly-dead grandpa).
However, I read the scene where Ranna had the beads placed on her differently. We were previously shown when Ling had the beads placed on her and turned good, she no longer had feelings for Rokudou. When Ranna goes catatonic with the beads, however, we are shown that she is dreaming about spending time with Rokudou, and as soon as he disappears from the dream she immediately wakes up and shatters the beads. That seems to show that she already loves Rokudou whether she's good or evil, but there's no way for the rest of the cast to know that yet.
Plus since day one it's been practically guaranteed that the series is ending with him losing his powers and making us think Ranna hates him only to pull a fakeout and show she still loves him. I'd almost put money on that.
Overall, there have been 8 main girls effected by his power (and a bunch of generic background ones with no real story). Tsubaki barely even acts like she was ever in love with him and is just a friend now. Same with Osanada. Azami rarely shows up and has an obvious love interest of her own now. Yashiya just seemed to be a villain so Rokudou would have someone to face as the party was battling their way up the tower to face the Shishio guy. Raino initially fell for him because of the magic but I think she's one that you could break the spell right now and she'd still love him (which is probably why she was the only one to be written out instead of getting to stay at the school). I've just finished the arcs with Minami and Ling so I'll need to see how it is once they fully integrate at the school.
That just leaves Ranna, whose personality seems to most wildly be effected by the magic. The generous read on that is because it's the first time she's ever been happy and this is just how she acts when allowed to be happy. After all, nobody else suffered a personality shift from the magic. We'll have to see how things are resolved to know if that's really the case though.
Still catching up on Boruto... how am I doing? Two clip shows in 6 episodes is how I'm doing.
What number are you on?
Finished 119 this morning, with the arc about Konohamaru and the girl he likes.
How can you endure it? I noped out halfway through the recover Mitsuki arc. Everything seems like filler quality stuff.
I actually kind of liked that Arc, because Mitsuki has just kind of been there and didn't really have any motivation other than "wants to bang Boruto but doesn't understand that's what he wants". Don't get me wrong, a lot of it does feel like filler, but at least the stuff with the kids is still more entertaining than any time the adults and their plot stuff is involved. And I like seeing how the kids are both the same and different from their parents.
Relatedly, I am really surprised there are this many adults from the last series that are still alive and or uninjured. Guy is in wheelchair, because one of his legs no longer works, and Sasuke is missing an arm. This doesn't stop either of them in any way shape or form, which is amusing, but that's the worst that anybody has gotten in the extended cast. Even the two elders that were the squad members with the Third Hokage are still alive and being pains in the ass to everybody in Konoha.
Read a few more chapters of Rokudou no Onna-tachi and...
Oh shit, Raino's back after having been gone for like 60 chapters. Then they go out of their way to prove that she's not even effected by the spell anymore and still loves him. I'm curious how this is going to pan out now as I was convinced she'd been written out because she'd be too hard to keep around if she truly loved Rokudou without the spell.
They also confirmed that Osanada hasn't been effected by the spell in a long time. Based on that you could probably debate about Azami since thrillseeking isn't inherently bad and she's not a vigilante anymore and is law-abiding aside from speeding. Though strangely they did confirm Tsubaki is still a considered bad (for vanity and bad temper I guess?) though she hasn't acted attracted to Rokudou in forever.
ok, so I gotta know. what, exactly, is the driving force behind Boruto? like, naruto felt like it ended pretty definitively, no more warring states, gods at peace, best buds, settled down. what's the big threat now? what exactly happened to the world that makes it so that a preteen tells me that Boruto is stronger than Naruto?
Iirc, there are more people from the moon running around?
And the first page seems to be a flash forward to midway through another ninja war that has killed Naruto in the process.

By the time Naruto (manga and shippuden) ended I fucking despised the series
And from what I've seen and read of Boruto, I'm pretty sure this franchise isn't for me.
I will say though that the movie where Naruto and Hinata got married had some nice moments, but it also had some fucking awful moments as well.

Money ruins everything pretty much. And Naruto stuff is made of money at the moment. Gotta hit Bleach levels to be able to die off.

Yeah, the main plot for the adults is there's more ninja space aliens like what's-her-face from the end of Shippuden and they want to harvest the chakra from the world for whatever reason. I don't really care about this plot because I'm pretty much done with anything from the previous series.
As far as Boruto and his generation, it's basically early Naruto where they're just learning how to do everything and the adventures they are in. Kind of a mix of early Naruto, the filler stuff, with an occasional important arc centering around one of the main Nu-Team 7 characters. Or Shikamaru's kid.
The series started in media res with Boruto fighting someone when they're both adults and badass chakra monsters/ninjas, and that was probably Mitsuki maybe? I don't remember, and I don't really care either. I just want dumb ninja kids doing dumb ninja kid things.
edit: Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki are all way the fuck better than Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke were at their age. Boruto specifically.

sasuke, naruto, and sakura were absolutely the worst members of the cast throughout the entire series, so that is not really a high bar
From what I've watched of Boruto on Toonami, it's basically "what happens when the world's at peace and ninja aren't really needed anymore?" coupled with "watch to see how these ninja kids deal with having evil/negligent/shitty ninja dads/male mentors (or the one female exception: Sakura)." I definitely like it more than the original Naruto series, since no one's insufferable like Naruto and crew were back then and so far there hasn't been any sign of there being dumb crush/relationship plots between the kids.
I like these sorts of focused videos, it really shows how different talented folks will animate similar ideas in different ways.

I ordered book 7 of Made in Abyss since it just released. I'm both excited and worried. Book 6 took some hard turns for some sad stuff and I don't think book 7 is gonna get any happier.
I'm also bummed out because it looks like book 14 for Watamote was pushed back to an October release when it was previously the same day as book 7 of Made in Abyss.

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
Maybe it seems less weird to someone who actually watched Naruto, but it seems really weird to me that apparently they're fighting aliens now.
It's weird, and also way out of place because the kids can do all of jack shit when the aliens are around. And since the show is supposed to be about the kids...

Most of the anime is a prequel to the manga.
Could be. The fights almost seem like a Jojo parody after a certian point
It’s gotta be, it looks almost exactly like it. There’s even a red stone in the forehead!
and it ACTUALLY ENDED tying up plot points and not baiting a s2 etc

There are 53 episodes before the movie, which I've heard is around the beginning of the manga?
The episode count is actually higher than 119 (and still ongoing), but like I said I'm catching up.
Naruto varied on quality pretty wildly over the course of its run, but even at its absolute nadir it is so much better than Boruto
