Take their stand on bended knee, whether it's on astroturf or grass, I think of those whose freedom was not free and I say, take a knee my ass.
I’ve been dipping my toes into outlaw country. It’s pretty cool.

I've been buying a bunch of Willie Nelson on vinyl. There's no way I'll even reach half the albums that he has released, he's batnuts crazy in how much he records.

While containing none of the worst lyrics in country music, I submit that Highwayman by The Highwaymen has the worst depiction of a dummy being struck by lightning and falling off the Hoover Dam in all extant media.

Would country be more or less of a minefield than my favorite genre of music?

Modern country is less minefield and more small sections of turf surrounded by explosives

    You might enjoy Shooter Jennings

It's kinda amazing how Cash doing this really changes the meaning of the lyrics.

But really any country song with lyrics about blonde girls in blue jeans/cutoffs riding in a truck on a country dirt road is the worst country song.

So, 95% of all country songs released since the year 2000?

Waylon Jennings said it best (allegedly) when asked about Garth Brooks

“Garth Brooks did for country music what pantyhose did for finger fucking.”

It’s all been down hill since.

Anyway, go listen to some Turnpike Troubadours and hope Evan Felker gets his shit together so they can tour again.

Might I also recommend some Charley Crockett or Colter Wall ?

rutted and poorly graded without street lighting?
a shorter journey from A to B but you might run across a moose?
a likely haunt for serial killers?

Body like a back road is implying she has curves.

It's not the best lyric in the world but it's not THAT bad.

That’s part of it but it’s also attempting to imply that he knows her curves so well that he could drive it with his eyes closed. The line it’s self isn’t that bad but it is just the apotheosis to me of performative country culture bullshit.

I think it’s probably best to avoid painting either genre with such a large brush. Also I think that’s an issue that most genres have.

I submit that this interpretation of back road depends very much on your local terrain and infrastructure.

edit: for real it genuinely never occurred to me that a back road would be more windy, I think to me the back road is the one you take when you can't be bothered with bends, bridges, or sane gradients

    Body like a backroad
    One lane each way
    Through the mountains
    Low guard rails into eternity
Line of bikers trying to be
    The fast and the furious
    Winding around blind curves
    Because you wanted
    To avoid the freeway
    How's that working out?
