Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
If anyone wants to watch a classic example of well-animated 1980s schlock, I highly and unironically recommend Angel Cop. Especially the English dub, which is infamous for its gratuitous cursing but is genuinely good voice acting that imo really sells the characters in a way most dubs don't.
It's gory, grindhouse-y action with a dumb 80s intrigue plot, but it's clear the studio put real work into animating it.
It's an ancient and obscure VHS OVA, so afaik it's not really available except on youtube. (does saying this fall foul of the piracy rule? I apologize if so. I seriously don't think it's possible to buy other than a physical secondhand copy)
I tend to think of Sawano soundtracks in general when it comes to 'best anime OSTs' because they sound great (even when attached to something mediocre) AND sound very much 'anime'.

I don't know how common this is, but Seven Seas is running a SURVEY about what manga and light novels they should license in English.
The categories for manga and light novels are:
Yuri
BL/Yaoi
LGBT+
Fantasy/Isekai
Comedy/Drama/Slice of Life
Action/Horror/Supernatural
Ecchi/Fan Service
Classic (1990s or older)
There doesn't seem to be a limit on how much you can pack into a single field, so I wrote a bunch (also included author names for each). Took a lot of googling to figure out what may and may not be licensed though.
Some that I was surprised weren't licensed yet included Hatsukoi Zombie, Hana to Hoshi, Pashiri na Boku to Koi suru Banchou-san, Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid, Rokudou no Onna-tachi, Tensei Pandemic, Yancha Gal no Anjou-san, and Tasogare Otome X Amnesia (that one even has an anime over here, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia).
For Classics I listed Slayers and Slayers Special for light novels, since I think the license lapsed on the former (and they never finished publishing all of them anyways) and the latter never got licensed as far as I know.

i think aot having a heroic, swelling soundtrack is not the right choice
like sawano is great but, not the right pick there imo, especially considering where that series goes
I think it's exactly the perfect choice considering the direction it goes.

I'm reading Even Though We're Adults by Takako Shimura and ahhhhhh everyone in it is like unfulfilled and having an identity crisis and their lives aren't even like that bad and they can't tell if they're trying to be happy or trying to self-destruct what happiness they do have.
It is super messy and not in the fun stupid domestic girlfriend way, just in a well written but also vaguely anxiety inducing way.
It's also got that very Japanese attitude of like, well look ok so our lives and identities are falling apart, but shikata ga nai, no reason to make a scene about it. It's simultaneously stoic and optimistic, that your pain is not unique to you and that you'll get through it, but also there's a sort of deep existential loneliness at the edges of it, that even when you're feeling at your worst that it would be deeply selfish of you to put anyone out over it.

what a dipshit. It's so satisfying to watch because every bad thing that will happen to him he brought on himself by trying to silence and bankrupt his victims
Makes sense, almost all of them get killed by that train at the station other than Susan.
That'll teach you for wearing stockings, make up and going dating Susan!
How dare you be a human being Susan! Goes girls are dolls, pretty and silent unless in the service of God!
Fixed that for you

this week in anime watched by yours truly:
oresuki: the weird status quo is restored, nice ending, i only hear deku whenever joro speaks and its off-putting, victim of fame i guess
average isekai: average, lots of backstory exposition
cautious hero: creepy yandere goddess owns, lots of stuff about mash and eluru
chihayafuru 3: continues to impress
anime i'm considering picking up: ascendance of a bookworm, blade of the immortal, beastars
Caught up on the Strike the Blood LNs that are translated, which it seems don't even go as far as the latest anime release (volume 13 is about halfway through the third season that just ended in September). Wonder if I should go back to the anime or wait for more LN releases. I didn't even realize the anime had continued past season 1 until after I started reading through the LNs.
I guess I should go to the anime, since S4 is coming early next year and will probably adapt like 3 LNs, so it'll be way ahead instead of a little ahead.
Anyway, I think it's my favorite dumb battle harem series? For whatever that's worth as an endorsement.

I really enjoy Bookworm. It is not the most beautiful show or really all that impressive but it is charming and it is nice to have an isekai protagonist who has pretty modest goals in life.

Guessing the story arc ended? If it was originally a Light Novel that would make sense from a pacing point of view.
