Malt O Meal is off brand generic cereal. Usually tastes pretty good and is like ridiculously cheap. You can usually get a 2-3 lb bag of Malt-O-Meal for the price of a box of name brand.
Edit: Google reveals it is also a brand of farina Porridge.
Rolled oats are like the flat oats you can cook in maybe 5 minutes. What most people think of when they think of oats.
Steel cut oats look like little pellets and take maybe half an hour. Big with hipsters for some reason.
The difference here is kind of fascinating and really important. Rolled oats are actually fairly new as grain products go and were invented some time in like the mid-1800s as I remember. Before that it was all steel-cut or the like, which take way longer to cook and just aren't good for much of anything but making gruel. Rolled oats cook way faster and absorb more liquid and break down more during cooking and are thus capable of being integrated into baked goods. Which didn't come about till a little while later. Without rolled oats, oat-based baked goods don't exist.
TLDR: Hipsters are, as ever, wrong. Progress is good and delicious.

Never heard of it. Is it Slovakian?
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Man I'm either going to have to start coloring from scratch or make this real complicated to shade...
I love malt-o-meal, but that and no cream of wheat is like, ????

I’m not sure what maltomeal is but it was a staple at my house as a kid
Grits are ground-up hominy, similar to polenta. Popular in the American South.
Rice is rice, I just kind of assumed a big part of the world eats it for breakfast
Pulped newsprint is a joke, it sometimes has the same consistency as oatmeal if not the flavor or nutritional value
Last one was in case I forgot or never heard of a popular breakfast gruel

I’ll be honest I forgot completely about Cream of Wheat and that may have been what I actually meant when I wrote Malt-o-Meal

Malt o Meal is a sad imitation created a quarter century later.
I vote rice on the grounds that rice crispies totally count
I don’t judge your choices
Don’t judge mine

I spent a good part of my early 20s ankle-deep in piping-hot newsprint pulp, the comparison to oatmeal was inevitable.

It's as beautiful as always, even though I can see better the rough bits around the edges
The mech just couldn't see it coming. Just aim and shoot.
Ugh, I'm going to take a break.
First part of second breakfast.
I got a little excited when I saw your ship.

This is definitely the most authentic reaction to grits from people not from the South.
"WTF are grits?"
