Kind of fucked up that all of this is happening to the Gawker media sites because they couldn't help themselves from publishing a stupid sex tape.
One dumb decision for a giggle, and...all this. Damn.
It wasn't the sex tape that killed them: it was making an enemy of Peter Thiel. The sex tape fiasco was just a pretext for a crooked judge to fuck them into an early grave.
That's true, the sex tape thing was just such an easy target to present for being sued, even at the time I was like "how the hell did they picture this going other than lawsuit."
In a reasonable world, they would have gotten sued and walked away with a black eye, or at least been able to settle out of court to avoid the death knell. Thiel likely instructed his cat's paw lawyer to rebuff any offer of settlement, thus allowing him to press for a potential lethal strike in legal form.

Do you own Overcooked 2? Great! Then have some free DLCs (you must redeem them before April 21st):
I dipped my toe into Planet Coaster last night, and it seems very much Not For Me. There's no ingame tutorial or learning campaign. One of the first things you can do is rotate and move things on a z axis when placing them, which is way too much for me. I didn't check before I ducked out, but is there a "tour someone else's park" mode? That's all I'd want to do at this point. I am not that creative but I'd happily goggle at others' brilliance.
Jim Spanfeller essentially bought the network from Univision after Gawker got sued into Oblivion, and then turned it into a pump and dump for his private equity funtimes.
Between Tim Rogers, Gita Jackson, and Jason Schrier all leaving, who on Kotaku is even worth reading? It feels like it’ll be just another content farm gaming site husk

It's really not too hard to get into, 2-3 hours in and you'll be getting the hang of it. You can download other peoples coasters and parks and plop them down. I'd also recommend Channel 5's youtube series on planet coaster. He showcases tons of amazing rides and parks, which you can then go download!

Heather Alexandra is still there, and I think her (very sporadic, long-form) analysis of the Metal Gear series is phenomenal (the most recent one is almost a year old). I found her Death Stranding review was excellent as well; she loves Kojima's oeuvre while understanding exactly what the problems with those games are (both in terms of mechanics and content), so I think her analysis of them is always extremely thoughtful and nuanced.
Also, Stephen Totilo is still in charge. As the EiC, I think he doesn't get to write too many articles himself, but his presence and hand on the rudder set the tone for the site as a whole (and I bet him being a bulwark between the other employees and all the interference from higher-ups is what lets them operate as they do, for now).
I really love(d?) Kotaku Splitscreen, the podcast that Jason, current Kotaku employee Maddy Myers, and former Kotaku employee Kirk Hamilton did together, but along with Jason leaving Kotaku, they announced today that they're also ending the podcast - and starting a new one:
Played some of the Minecraft RTX beta while on meetings.
It does look pretty cool, but yeah it's very taxing on the system. I had to have DLSS enabled really. I've only got a 2070 and brought it down to 1080p but still looks great.
I can't seem to figure out how to make my own world with RTX enabled though. Just downloading their prebuilt worlds.

It's just that the customization is too much for me. Too many choices, too many placement options. I'll look at the youtube for fun parks to tour though.

Other publications wish they'd had the stones that Gawker did. They were more of a blog than a news site, but they reported fearlessly, and they did so with rudeness and irreverence. There's a place and a need for that in the American media landscape. Sadly that space is being largely eclipsed by advertising giants such as Facebook and Google, but perhaps with their collapse or dissolution (or a very smart class action lawsuit) their death grip over eyeball traffic money will be loosened enough for media to slip back in and collect their rightful due.

I'm fairly certain literally any queer person would not be ok being outed for clicks
the thing that finally broke them was posting revenge porn, also for profit
As a queer, I really don't give a fuck if a dude who donated over a MILLION DOLLARS to Donald Trump got outed. In fact, it's better that we know what a despicable and loathsome worm he is, that he would work against the interests of the rest of us gays.

Thiel getting involuntarily outed is indefensible. This is literally the only sympathy I'll give him, and even then it feels real icky giving that to such a repugnant fuckstain.

peter thiel is not "any queer person"
he is a billionaire who's accumulating wealth and power with the explicit aim of turning the planet into a neo-feudal archipelago of walled compounds
he will literally watch the world burn and eighty percent of humans die so that he can complete his project of making sure that only The Right Kind of People are in charge
I get that he's a shitty person but he needs to get called out by the media on that shittiness and not random things to make his life miserable. It is not okay to out a person against their will and I don't think we should be making judgement calls saying it's cool in this case because he's a shitty dude.

Outing conservatives who support anti-LGBQT causes and politicians is controversial, but a whole lot of folk consider it the asterisk in the debate.
I think if you donate to someone who wants to electrocute gay kids - typically donated by their parents after being outed against their will - until they turn straight or die all crimes against you retroactively become justified. It may seem harsh, but also, no one made the choice to do that for you. Respect and solidarity are not unconditional, and if you choose to burn a bridge you can't be shocked that people are ready to let you burn with it.
The way you're posting implies that Schrier like, plagirized shit, lied in articles, or commited crimes.
posting nudes and pornography without prior consent is illegal, unless you classify it as "journalism", and even then it's nebulous
his utter ambivalence and blind greed is what made gawker wain from extremely important investigative journalism and downright bullying is what got them sued so frequently

Wait, sorry, Jason Schreier did those things? Or, are you referring to the fact that Gawker did those things and Schreier didn't subsequently leave Kotaku on moral grounds?

It looks quite bad thought. So maybe just ignore this one and go play Total War Warhammer 2 during its free weekend.
