Jesus fucking Christ. That Biden saying George thing has spread all over Murdoch media. All the Australian morning shows were running it uncritically, and nobody mentioned the broader interview, seemingly just commenting on the cut video.

My mum, who is very liberal and left wing, came in talking to me about it, and I had to correct her and she has no idea the guy he was talking to was called George

What the fuck is it with the media and this line of attack? How are they carrying so much water for trump, how is it such catnip? I just don’t get it. Is it just the horse race, is it a push from their owners, or are they just as thick, uncritical and credulous as any other spreader of this kind of shit

    All of the above.

Plus the media is punished more for not reporting something than incorrectly (even absurdly so!) reporting something

I mean on 60 minutes Nora Odonnel literally asked Kamala Harris if she'll spread her socialist viewpoint to Joe Biden. Our media loves the boot and the licking there in.

Their big takeaway from the debate was that the oil industry would be mad and that would hurt Biden when people hate the oil industry and its fucking subsidies.

Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.

They didn't so much back in the 80s, which is where the President (and most of his administration) and 60 Minutes (and most of their audience) still lives.

Eh "punished" here is a bit of a misleading thing. They get a bunch of whining wet blanket r's complaining about it, but that's them working the refs and the media needs to stop worrying about their cocktail parties and more about the fucking news.

The Dow shitting itself 8 days out from election, assuming there isn't so swift turn around probably does hurt Trump and republicans a decent bit. It's not going to change many minds on who they are likely to vote for. What it's likely to do, is demotivate republican voters. The one thing Trump and the GOP have been trying to sell since this election season started forever ago, the way before times. Was that the economy is strong. If the economy goes further to shit, there are republican voters that won't vote for a democrat every, but with everything being shit, will likely decide to just not bother voting.

As for the bullshit EO. I suspect whether SCOTUS signs off on that will come down to how well versed Roberts and Gorsuch are in history and how much they want to tempt fate here. We didn't exactly get the anti-spoils stuff solely to deal with corruption, a huge chunk of it likely owes to the fact that we had a sitting president being assassinated because of the spoils system. With how things are, if both of them have any brains and are aware, they probably won't sign off on it. Also signing off on it, would just further motivate democrats to expand the court.

+2 for Biden in NC, and that piece of shiiiit Cal Cunningham as well. Fuck you, Cunningham, I hope Schumer puts you on the Senate Shit-Wiping Committee and leaves you there until a good Dem primaries you.

Straight ticket D for both of us. Feels weird y'all, but good. Fuck the current Republicans. Begone, maniacs! Wander in the west TX desert for a couple of cycles and think about what you've done.

Jokes about the insane amount of cleaning both literally and security-wise the White House is going to need aside, I sincerely think Biden should just retire the resolute desk. It's not special, there are plenty of Presidential desks to bring out of storage to replace it with, and Trump has so disgraced the office that if I was the President coming in after him I couldn't sit behind the thing. It would make me physically sick to my stomach.

Does anyone know of a collected set of 2016 Congressional District polling?

The 2020 CD polling is apocalyptic for the GOP/Trump and I want to get a feel of how good it was in 2016 (as there is a suggestion that individual CD level polling was better than state polling in 2016).

    Here you go fam

Alas that is just the 2020 polls. The paydirt I am looking for is the 2016 polling. And no, Brand doesn't have it, I have already asked.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding - is the goal to see how far off the polls were in 2016? Wouldn't the final exits be more apt?

I want to see what the 2016 Congressional District polls were saying and compare to the actual 2016 results, yes.

In the past I have ignored CD polls as I thought them very innaccurate. But now people are saying the 2016 polls gave a good indication of Trump performance where it mattered. Significantly, painting a different picture than what the state polls were showing.

Now in 2020 the CD polls are saying Biden winning in a landslide where he obliterates Trump in Pennsylvania and takes Texas with room to spare. 2018+. The mid terms repeated without the disappointing Senate results.

That's quite a signal, and I want to know how seriously to take it before wagering cold hard cash.

So I need to see quite how accurate the 2016 CD polls are or of people have just been cherry picking to create a narrative.

Dow is down 700 points today. Yikes

Let me guess news headlines: "On fears of a Biden presidency..."

Not "Because the White House has given up on its Coronavirus response and is planning on maybe firing half the executive branch."

Nope, what I have seen are "Due to spikes in the Coronavirus the down has dropped 700-800 points."

A lot of states are worse now than when the first lockdowns started, and there's not likely to be a consumer spending boom this time from unemployment raises and stimulus spending.

Watching that clip, there wasn't much of a pause between "4 more years of" and "George." there...ugh. I'd like to think he was referring to Lopez but...I think he may actually have said the wrong name there. This is the last thing we need a week before election day.

Edit: Watched it a couple more times and I guess I could see where there could have been a pause or comma intended after the "of," but you're not going to see it unless you're sympathetic to Biden already.

I can't find the article now, but I saw the headline that a poll worker, or whatever you call the people who confirm people to vote at the booth, was making people turn their black lives matters t-shirts inside out, was fired.

But how shitty is it that a person was doing this, and people thought they had to obey. Probably out of fear of voting while minority.

Fuck the direction this country is going.

Edit found one but it's not the one I saw today

I think it’s more just the usual mixing up names that are in the conversational pot. Like sometimes you say your friends name or the name of the person you’re talking to accidentally when you’re talking about someone else with them. It’s not an age thing it’s just a human brain thing

It’s all absurd because trump says stupider things both accidentally and on purpose daily.

It’s just maddening with the world in the state that it’s in that this is a thing. Yes I would love some young people in charge, but young people make speaking errors too. It’s the wrong way to have the conversation even if your intentions were purely about good governance and mental acuity

I think the "George" thing is an actual mistake... but it's an "oops" thing, not a sign of dementia - which is what they're all trying to make it out to be. The reason he didn't say "George Bush" is that his brain caught the mistake in half a second and corrected it. Trump can't do that in any amount of time.

The Federal government has nothing to do with the Dow, it's run by Dow Jones (a subsidiary of NewsCorp), CME Group, and S&P Global. There's no way they are going to just throw away the brand value solely because it's a stupid measure.

I do hope that news and the Feds start pushing U-6 as the benchmark unemployment rate, since it should have switched long ago and nows the time to do it some nobody will notice or take a political hit for the more accurate measure.

I already voted (for Biden), but I live in a red state so it won’t matter. I just really hope it doesn’t sway anyone who was already on the fence about him. Maybe it won’t matter.
