It's ok, it's not as good as GOTG and the music chocies were largely a miss for me, BUT it does give audiences what they want, which is pete Davidson's face blown off in the first 5 minutes. Decent action, much better than Birds of Prey and makes a better use of Harley in that regard. Idris Elba's largely forgettable, his character is such a stock character and a clone of Smith's in the original, he is massively outshone by Harley and Peacemaker. Rick Flag sucks, the guy who plays him is just generally unlikable, which makes him perfect for Altered Carbon, less so as a sympathetic lead. King Shark is ok but one note, doesn't have the same appeal of Groot, and for a supervillain film, only one of them has actual powers, one is King Shark, and one has special tech. The others are just super good at aiming.
I'm sad Starro died outright, I was hoping an offshoot would go into space since he was ultimately a victim, and I'm not sure why they made removing his babies a death sentence. Like it eats your face off so you can't take it off, you're already dead, and at least SOME kids have to have been caught up in that mass crowd takeover.
It's ok, there are obviously funny moments and good action, I don't think there's a scene I would go on YouTube to watch again though, nothing about it is terribly awesome, but it's a big step up over the original and most other DC films.
Ayer was the one who was either disturbingly shitty to the cast or encouraged the cast to be disturbingly shitty to each other, right?
I forget the details aside from something about a used condom, but I remember it convinced me not to see the movie just so as to not contribute anything towards this guy's career.
No that was Jared Leto, who ended up getting almost completely cut out
Supposedly the script focused a lot more on him as the main villain, which is probably why Enchantress feels so forced into the film.
Saw Suicide Squad yesterday, it's not the second coming but it's enjoyable start to finish and leagues above it's predecessor. Bloodsport was clearly meant to be Deadshot, but Idris Elba does a fine job and by getting rid of Will Smith I think the film has been saved from his bad movie curse of the last 10+ years. Also props to John Cena as Peacemaker. The first film I've seen him in, but like the Rock and Bautista he has good comic instincts. WWE proving quite the star factory these days.

To be fair, you are talking about people who have to hit those hammy notes in front of a live crowd all the time. I suspect there is a lot more overlooked/underappreciated talent getting screwed over by the McMahons.

Where'd you gauge it compared to Shazam which is currently my number one DC flick and potentially in my top 5 capeshit movies?

Smith made the choice a long, long time ago that it was better to take the money for bad movies. That's a perfectly fine choice and all, I don't judge, but critics do.

Harley and Smith were really the only redeeming parts of the original Suicide Squad, and Smith was less deadshot and more.... Generic Action Smith through most of it. Completely servicable.
As to critics judging, I doubt Will Smith cares anymore. He can make whatever money he still wants, he's already well established him and can focus his "good" efforts on legacy projects, like with that possible dramatic version of Fresh Prince.

Even when wrestlers aren't great at movie acting, they can be damned fun in a role because they have nearly weekly experience doing live theater.
On wrestlers, it also depends on them getting a...not good, but "OK" script, or at least memorable. Edge got nothing from showing up at Money Plane, so he had to go back to the ring after Vikings ended.

I just saw Fast and Furious... what number are we on? 42? It seems like 42. Anyway, John Cena was in it, and he wasn't great. Then again the F and F series isn't known for great scripts and Cena was vastly more entertaining in the brief moments we've seen him in the The Suicide Squad trailers than he was in the entire F and F movie.

I think the issues was Cena was family but he wasn't family, in italics.
Apparently these same Snyder cut fans also review-bombed Godzilla vs. Kong. No, I don't know why and trying to find out why will just make my head hurt.
On the flip side, from one of the links on that article, it sounds like Edgar Wright loved it. One of my favorite directors currently working, so that's neat.
Well, I guess it makes sense that Snyder's fanbois would hate a movie that is accurate to the source material, actually uses a natural color tone and has a sense of fun about it.

Yeah, The Rock was much more entertaining in that series. Maybe/hopefully Cena will grow into the role/get a more fun script/get better direction.
I still want to see more Mr. Nobody.
I hope he's not dead!

When are we finally going to get The Schneider cut? I want a cut of all the DC movies done entirely by Rob Schneider.

I'm glad to hear that Suicide Squad is apparently getting decent reviews. I have no interest in seeing it personally. I have a immediate aversion to gore and constant foul language. Especially the gore though, blech. :?
I'll just hope for a PG13 cut like Deadpool 2 eventually got. I'm glad that James Gunn made a movie that finally got some of these DC characters right though.

I've got tickets to see it this Friday and I'm excited!
Sad that Margot Robbie is apparently done with the Harley Quinn role because she leaned right into that shit and it was great, but oh well, what will you do.

I lost a lot of interest when CCPena went full on West Taiwan sycophant and he's even going to get a mini series out of this (or was last year), but I do have access to a friend's HBO account, so I'll watch it that way.

Man, I have a free popcorn on my Regal card and really want to go se TSS on Saturday. However I'm getting pretty sketched out over the Delta spread so IDK if I want to go anymore.

Yep, even vaccinated, I have no desire to sit in a movie theater during a pandemic that isn't over with a variant that is even worse. It'll be a long time before I go to a theater again. Especially since my wife is immuno-compromised. She's also vaccinated but the risk isn't worth it to me.
Between having plenty to watch on streaming platforms and being a patient man, I can wait for releases I want to see to hit a streaming service.
I personally think that a premier access type program should become standard for the moment. Like with Black Widow, I'm willing to spend 30 bucks to see a movie that I really want to see while it's still in the theater. That way money still goes to the studio, so ultimately they can keep making more movies I want to see.
While I not be a fan of Zack Snyder's works, I'm becoming a fan (to an extent) of the man himself.
He was on Colbert a couple months ago, and seemed to have no qualms having the piss taken out of his "cinematic vision" mentality. Mocks himself a fair amount too.

The real thing to be worried about is the ligma variant.

Wish there was more Peter Capaldi and I loved the very brief Calendar Man cameo. But basically everything was a blast and I laughed a lot even though it was mostly predictable.
