For Ghostbusters 2016 I went to the Alamo in my full suit and belt but only the PKE meter and goggles as gear. And was perfectly comfortable. There was another guy in full suit and proton pack outside the theater hanging out for people to take photos with. I was asked to be in some since I had the PKE. He refused to see the movie though because women were in it so I didn’t bother learning who he was.

Also he didn’t have sound on his pack. Lmao.

I really need to build a trap. Either a nice nice metal one or a foam stunt one to hang on my belt. I’ve been using the Matty Collector one since I started and it is perfectly fine but it’s plastic and I assume I’ll break it at some point.

I guess if it's one of them fancy VIP theaters with the lazy boys chairs I would have more than enough room to store the equipment. I GUESS.

All this new trailer hubbub has re-lit a fire under my ass to get my proton pack done proper. The Spengler wand is nice but it still looks like a "cheap" plastic toy no matter how much I try to hide it. I ended up going for the Throwing Chicken wand after some research because I wanted something that required a bit less prep work but had a bit more accuracy with some details on the barrel. I didn't feel like fussing with more drilling, dremeling and painting after the pack, so I took a nice year long break, but this kit definately took a bit of the edge off.

Aside from having to drill out the ear tip through the barrel for wiring it was smooth sailing, and the feel of heaving a nice solid wand in hand can't be uh, beat.

I still have a Benofkent wand kit I need to build, or just sell as is, but we will see. Meant to build em both simultaneously but didn't have it in me.

It's a great friggin wand! Only downside is the two side dials are molded on so you can't replace them with aluminum numbers.

Eh. They are so well cast that they are fine. They are painted black anyway. If they were supposed to be metal colored I’d think differently.

Possible spoilers based on new Hasbro toys.
Besides six inch figures of the kids in oversized Ghostbuster suits and proton packs there are old man Winston, Ray, and Venkman in their suits with proton packs. Very current looking faces of the actors on all three of those.

I like how the cyclotron is now a single light source that spins around on its axis as opposed to 4 lights simulating the effect. Neat little update.

I like how the official prop guy uses the term motherboard that the fans use for that part of the pack.

Also how long till I can get a spinny cyclotron mechanism? I’d think that would generate a neat pack hum too.

From what I understand a lot of the prop guys for the film went to the same sources most of us normie builders do (I believe EDIT: Sean Charlesworth said he did some pieces for them) so it makes sense they got accustomed to all the fan terminology as well.

Major GB Afterlife spoiler incoming, likely something from the end of the film or a mid/end credits stinger.
Photos credited to "Oscar R.", undated.
Los Angeles Ladder 23 firehouse is the now-closed shooting location for the interior shots of the Ghostbusters Headquarters (and several other films such as The Mask, and Big Trouble in Little China). Tribeca's Hook & Ladder 8 only stood in for exterior shots.
    WHRSGTx.jpg
    Cxx4sFo.jpg
This is a double-spoiler for how the location might be used in the film.
    cwkcd6L.jpg

What does this mean? We don't know. The workers are wearing masks so we know this was done sometime after 2019 when most of the filming was done and mostly editing remained.

My money is heavily on the credit stinger theory to tease a "going back into business" sequel with the now-more-grown-up cast.

It's possible that it could also be part of a flashback, but the dilapidated and rusty Afterlife Ecto-1 places it later in the timeline than the trailer suggests the original business shuttered.

The Ghostbusters 2 film score was released for the first time today.
Up until now, fans have been making due with music files pieced-together and skimmed off the DVDs.

    http://www.ghostbustershq.net/home/2021/8/13/ghostbusters-ii-score-album-notes-and-analysis

Composer Randy Edelman is more known for comedies than his predecessor Elmer Bernstein, and the score has a little less gravitas than the original. Regardless it's always good to have media previously considered effectively lost. It's a fun soundtrack with a different vibe than Berstein's score for the first film.

    There's a vinyl out on October 15th.

No, and that would be on the soundtrack. This is purely the orchestral score.

The original score had Howard Huntsberry's cover of "Higher and Higher" but not Jackie Wilson's original.

Fun coincidence, when I bought a house 2ish years ago now, it turned out a former resident's name was Jackie Wilson. I still get mail for her.

More news from Los Angeles Ladder 23!

facebook post by Ben King 8/13/2021

Back in 2018, Curbed reported that after decades of delay, Fire Station №23 in Los Angeles, best-known as the interior of the Ghostbusters' Firehouse, plans to convert the station into a youth arts center were finally going ahead.

At the time, only two 3D renders of the proposed revamp were released by the firm behind the project: Brooks + Scarpa.

Now however, after a bit of unexpected luck last evening, a more substantial portrait of the station's revamp can now be seen via the images included in this post - including a full overview of the building's internal layout.

    avWUmVF.jpg

    photos

This is certainly the most-thorough look at Firehouse 23 I've seen thus-far.

Did you know that the top floor with the bay windows was used as the apartment interior for the Ghostbusters 2 birthday party scene? Word is that most of the set dressing was still up there before it was cleaned out a bunch of years back when the place had aminly turned into a condemned squat.

He has several conducting credits over 1988 through the early 90s, so my guess would be that he was not available.
There's also a possibility of a lack of interest in doing sequel work, or the studio not meeting his asking price. I've never heard an account of why.

There's a very deep analysis of his work from the original though through the Soundtrack Show podcast if you're interested:

Whenever I am geared up and just walking around I pump the Bernstein incidental music through my proton pack's speakers. It creates a good mood and also doesn't interfere with the pack's sounds.

So, disclaimer: I've never seen Ghostbusters 2016. I passed it in theatres since it didn't sound great and just haven't gotten around to watching it since. But I'm aware of how a lot of "Just roll the cameras and something funny will be said eventually" usually goes so my general post is going off that idea.

So earlier some people were talking about there being a lack of humor in the trailer for Afterlife and I just wanted to put this thought out there: That could be a great thing.

I love the first movie and really like the second (First movie I ever picked to go see in a theatre) and I think the first movie is a classic that has these basic through lines that are all really well done.

    1.) The situation is absurd
2.) While there is humor that arises from ghosts, they are as a whole angry - each of them is some expression of rage/regret or excess - which makes them menacing
3.) None of the Ghostbusters are comic relief - they're all the straight man. The humor in the movie flows fairly organically from how each of their characters would react in this absurd situation. Venkmans a wry cynic, Egons an eccentric (whom you hear of doing crazy things but all you really see is him being right), Rays a putz/naive/true believer and Winston is the outsider/everyman who wonders what he's gotten himself into (also underused).

Hopefully this latest attempt at a sequel has the same idea: A paranormal hell mouth opening in the Midwest is insane, let normal characters play off that insanity instead of zany characters trying to outshine it.

That's been my take since the start. All the people being like "Where's the jokes? Nobody gets a pie to the face! This movie is gonna be horrible!" has me really concerned.

It's like they want a really dumb comedy when that's not what the originals were at all. The comedy was always a bit dry in that Harold Ramis sensibility and the couple times it isn't are the parts that aged the worst.

The film has endured where other 80s comedies haven't BECAUSE of the unique approach to the humor where the situation is ridiculous and yet played straight, even to the point of legit horror and yet the characters' personalities kind of lampshade it all.

Thankfully, my worries about pubic opinion have been relaxed a bit after doing our first outing yesterday. Everyone who can't up to our table wanted to talk about how excited they were for Afterlife and I didn't even have to field any exhausting Answer the Call criticism.

Now I want to see a legit Ghostbusters fire truck, in Ecto-1 colors, with all the firefighting gear replaced with Ghostbusting equipment (including on the end of the ladder).

The fact that they mainly operate out of a firehouse and this is the first time the thought has ever crossed my mind frankly amazes me.

It was all over Twitter, not in this thread. Seemed to be contained to purely the day the trailer dropped though, haven't seen it since.

It bugged me because there were several people I like and follow espousing that, hence why I was venting some of the anxiety here where folks seem to be on a similar level to where I'm at and I can share these feelings without being derided or pounced on by folks that would put words in my mouth.

"When the main character sees the ghost, why don't they do a triple take, and immediately start stuttering whilst their tie flaps up and down like a slide-whistle??"

I'm being obtuse, but yeah I'm FINE without the laughs in the immediate trailers and it def looks like it's leaning away from being a comedy film, but the tone also seems to be chasing that Stranger Things, Spielbergian vibe which is weird being so far removed now from Stranger Things big cultural moment. If anything it seems to be more akin to that "old Force Awakens trailer, with the same music swells and everything as main character finds iconic rickety-ass vehicle and takes it spin (as well as the whole "Who are you?" of it all). More concerned with riding on that nostalgia wave than trying to show off the story beats or comedic moments.

ANYWAY, here's the cool old equipment I built and completed because nostalgia is the most toxic of impulse and even I am not immune!

i mean i been quiet because it's not worth getting mad over a movie, but you are absolutely putting words into other people's mouths with a lot of bad faith interpretations of people's reaction to the trailer tho. like it's actually got to the point where it feels like a direct attack on people who don't share the exact same view on a franchise as you, someone admittedly much deeper into it than the majority and feels really exclusionary/gatekeeping-adjacent
