Here's the new thread, I guess.

My guild is consistently reaching P3 of Heroic Sylvanas after 25ish pulls, so I feel like we're not too far from a kill. Though it might be a "much harder then it looks" situation. And we are, unfortunately, still dependent on 3-4 PUGs every night.
We are doing another full raid night on Heroic Sylvannas, so will see how that goes.
Yay.
one guilded hunter, one leggo bow
Also 39 pulls? So like, 10 hours. God that is a long ass fight.
It's just SO fucking long, and it punishes every mistake so harshly. It's actually caused me to cancel my sub, so hopefully I can help my guild kill her before it expires. I'll probably be back in 9.2 or the next expansion. But between the content drought, this boss's mechanics, and the controversies swirling, it's like the perfect storm of not-fun right now.
I agree 100%.
I very strongly dislike the Sylvanas fight. It isn't fun. It isn't really even difficult. It just requires a lot of precision of movement and good execution of pretty fundamental behaviors.
Phase 1 feels like the lowest stakes phase 1 of any boss ever. At no point do I ever feel threatened, or at-risk, or anything. Phase 1 is a complete snoozefest. It's easy, it's boring, and it isn't fun. Plus, the whole 84% and she goes immune thing is just unnecessary filler to pad an already obnoxious run time.
Phase 2 is an add phase, which is "fine" but I also wouldn't call it fun. It feels like filler. The boss being immune for most of it is annoying because any chances you have to land a stray shot here or there on her is wasted effort. I don't like wasted effort. Phase 2 is really just a mobility check. Can you cross some bridges without falling, and while dodging the waves. Some of the timings are a bit tight on the adds, especially on the transition from bridge 3 to 4, and that last interrupt window is very tight. But even with a tight window there, I still don't really consider P2 to be that difficult, and it certainly isn't fun.
P3 is the only interesting part of the fight, and I don't even think it's that interesting. Other than the DPS check to kill her before you run out of platforms doesn't feel very high stakes. The fight just lacks any sort of epic feel to it. Her abilities get smaller in P3, so it's less flashy. And puddle management isn't exactly a riveting mechanic. It feels like rushed design. It feels like they ran out of time to deliver a truly epic boss fight, and this is the best the could come up with in a pinch. It's by far the least exciting and least interesting end-boss of any raid I can think of.
Honestly, just knock 20% off her hp and call it a day.
I do think we're going to get close and maybe kill her on Sunday when we raid again, but so much of the encounter feels like luck, which wouldn't be so bad if you could pull more than 3 or 4 times per hour.
Mythic is an incredible fight. after week 1 I was dreading mythic, after having seen heroic. but mythic delivered.
just a shame after the highlight that Heroic Sire was.
7, I think? It took us about 25 pulls to get to P3 because we were having so many P1 deaths we'd die to adds or Ruin in P2. Once we started P3 prog we progressed through it quickly. We were helped a lot by Vespertotem, who we recruited (I think he's joining, anyways) just last week -- he was the raid leader of his old guild which cleared Heroic then fell apart (rest in peace) so he was pre-calling spreads for Veil and such, which definitely helped a lot. I don't often put a lot of weight on raid leading as I find most of them aren't much more than a louder DBM, but calling movement a few seconds before it needs to happen in tight windows makes a huge difference.. Our normal caller is also good, but has nowhere near the level of experience.
I was dreading spending 40 pulls on 10-minute+ P3 wipes, but instead it was just boring because we spent so little time on the one fun part of the fight.
Yeah. It feels like a fight that they designed on Mythic and then just took stuff out until they felt like Heroic was manageable without much care for the state of the final product. P1 can certainly kill people, but as long as you have spread DPS for the chains it's basically a target dummy fight. I practically had my rotation mapped out cast-by-cast by the end, because there was nothing else to pay attention to.
the mythic fight is fun though, we're just starting to see phase 2 and it's just way more engaging

Heroic Sylvanas is a fuckin chore
Since I can que for brewfest on various people for some free exp I have found people once again abusing the tank/healer que. As my brother que's on his lightborn paladin with my draenei paladin he makes fun of the fact I have had to heal as ret because we run into not healers
I think I killed Heroic Denny in PUGs every week for like…three months? A couple weeks I got multiple kills on the same character just for the hell of it.
I don’t even want to kill Syl with my guild next week.
God, such a good fight.
And really, how many fights would be better if we beat them by inflicting psychic damage by showing how stupid their plan/plot is
What are you running with?
I’m hoping to push some 20s for the teleport this season, but it’s tricky as I don’t have a regular group aside from my healer and guild DPS are… inconsistent.
Kyrian Vengeance DH(me), Necrolord Unholy DK, Kyrian Ret Paladin, Night Fae Marks Hunter, Kyrian Holy Paladin.
Not really a meta comp by any stretch of the imagination, we’re all just playing the classes we like.
How much are you yelling at your hPal to go Venthyr? I’ve been amping up the pressure on mine (I also play Kyrian VDH) but I don’t think he’s going to crack until 9.1.5.
Not yelling but if someone were to go venthyr it would definitely be them.
Back in 9.0 our team DPS (who quit after 9.1 :bigsad:) was switching from Monk to DK and asked me what Covenant they should play and I was just like… umm… is this a trap…? Play what you want? But they were serious and went Venthyr when I suggested Venthyr.
When blaster DPS are blasting you don’t argue with their choices, you just appreciate the results.
he reminds me a lot of blackhand, which was another fight that was short for an end-of-raid encounter but similarly fast paced (also both involve falling through a floor.) I wish they'd do more fights like that rather than every end boss being a damned marathon

P1 and P2 are the main reason Sylvanas Mythic is so much better than Heroic - you still do four groups of adds and two boss burns, but you're split up for the adds doing two at a time, so P2 plays out like add bridge -> burn bridge -> add bridge -> burn bridge -> P3, which is much better for obvious reasons.
And P1 in heroic is basically just marking time, nothing challenging happens. P1 in Mythic is one of the best P1s they've ever done.
I have a feeling that was the original vision for both difficulties & they later changed it to avoid having to try to account for tuning on split teams for various raid sizes. It probably wouldn't have played well in playtesting.
we are only just starting to get into phase 2 but at least it's not the three minute snooze it is on heroic

That stuff drove me crazy. I remember seeing this a ton especially around the Cataclysm days. Also people getting into dungeons that were grossly under ilvl for it causing endless wipes. It was super awful (I still remember one where I think some guys joined as a group so their absolutely terrible ilvl Paladin or something tried to tank and would just melt because he couldn't handle tanking the shit). I think they added some ilvl requirements later on (or bumped them up or something) to make that a little less common.
