I read through (and listened to 30 sec snippets of many of) the rolling stone top 500 songs and it was interesting
re: the copyright convo yesterday, I was saddened to learn that a tribe called quest I guess did not make money from their song "can I kick it?"
On “Can I Kick It,” Q-Tip and Phife Dawg toggle effortlessly between a slouched coolness and uptempo spontaneity, while producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad puts on a masterclass in free-form sampling brilliance, particularly with the use of the bass line from Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side.” After the sample wasn’t initially cleared, Reed ended up with a solo writing credit for the song, and all the proceeds.
copyright holders realizing they could be getting paid for song samples is credited with killing the golden age of hip hop : (
And I fulfilled my declared intent. What did you think I was going to do?

What's funny Summs is that if I was over there and someone tried to trade me an RPG launcher with four rounds for two cans of dip I'd probably keep the dip.

Oh huh turns out I have a [chat] ready in my drafts after all.
And it's not even my incredibly sad half-written tribute to Widget!
I need not fear the Geth in the future.
Remind me and I’ll Batsignal you to do the next one.
Oh no that's okay it's not an especially great one. I'm pretty sure I threw it together a few months ago when I was worried I might end up with the [chat]; the subject feels like something that was topical specifically to the last few pages of a [chat] thread.
Mostly I'm just glad I have one in reserve in case of surprise Geth selection.

Not just get paid for samples, get everything. If sampling was such that the holder got a percentage of sales commensurate to how much of the song the sample made up, that would be fine. Instead you have stuff like this, where a 3 second loop gives all profits to the sample holder. Same with Bittersweet Symphony.
