Due to the glaring disparity in our professional ethics, I have ended my ties with the James Somerton Channel, as well as my long-time association with James Somerton. I am also advocating that James offer a full and immediate refund to each of the IndieGoGo donors who contributed to Telos Pictures.

I'd like some more introspection on his own part and the comments Todd raised, but it is a start.

The full response is more thorough. I appreciated that he ended it by endorsing the queer YouTuber playlist and providing a form for further suggestions of others.

There is no way the co-writer didn't know of the plagiarism?

I agree, I think he just sees the writing on the wall and is taking the chance to leave Somerton holding the bag.

Having not watched Todd's video, the whole comment on the site actually goes into depth:
The guy calls himself out for being a naive fool and is aghast that he did not realize this shit himself.

Entirely possible, as I am myself a credulous goon when it comes to trusting people I shouldn't.

I did read the whole statement. He doesn't address his own comments on his writing style being based on vibes and not doing research or reading.
I'm just saying... It is a start, and best to get as far from the blast radius as possible, but introspection about how he let this happen would be good. I assume that will come later. But he will have to deal with Somerton putting the blame on him, so best to get ahead of that.
There is no way the co-writer didn't know of the plagiarism?
Well, as seen in Todd in the Shadow's video, Nick says (writes on Discord) that he couldn't have known about any plagiarism because he doesn't read anything or watch other Youtubers, so it's literally impossible for him to plagiarize anyone.
So, if we take him by his word, he is absolutely intellectually incurious and didn't do plagiarism.
On the other hand, Somerton describes him as an academic, so one of them is lying.
Right now, I'm willing to give Nick some benefit of the doubt that he really is the world's biggest dullard, but who knows what's actually true.

Right, but you literally cannot trust anything Somerton says because he is a pathological liar, fraud, and conman.

Yes, which is why I'm leaning more towards Nick's description of himself as an untellect.

My only question is why a fundamentally incurious man thought that writing video essays was a viable career move.

Incurious people don't consider it an issue that they're incurious. It's not a coincidence that they also make garbage that they don't realize is garbage.
From watching multiple Bobby Brocolli videos on science fraud, it almost seems like it's easier to get away with massive lies and fraud than little ones, and setting up workflows or contributions to make sure people don't discover your unethical behavior is surprisingly easy if they aren't actively checking you.
For plagiarism it should be harder if you're reading literature and such, but if the guy was around primarily to plug holes in the script Somerton told him existed rather than truly collaborating and mostly giving his thoughts/eloquence to some sections then sure, a giant whiff on detecting plagiarism could absolutely happen.
it's also worth noting that there have been more than a few instances in academia of work published as a group turning up a serial, blatant plagiarist/liar within the group and the others just genuinely not catching on for a surprising amount of time
Nick's specific situation makes that harder to believe, but it does happen, even/especially in academia

The way I see it happening is that as a fundamentally incurious man he had no interest in reading/watching any of Somerton's work product and just assumed it was all gravy.

That, and if Somerton made sure that the co-writing was purely Nick adding to Somerton’s work or doing plug and play, and not truly collaborating in a way where Nick would be directly looking at/checking Somerton’s research, yeah.
obviously the lying and plagiarism are the important parts but can we just acknowledge that james somerton looks exactly like a dbz fusion of the two guys that make penny arcade
(this isn't intended as making fun of appearance, just kind of a funny coincidence, happy to take it down if it comes off that way)

It's unlisted because it's a Patreon video, so it doesn't come up in search or appear on his main channel page.
It's only ever referred to as a Patreon exclusive.
edit; Also, not sure if this has been posted here yet, but Somerton's co-writer quit.
