Probably the first time I've seen $40 for a DLC and thought "awwww yeah".

Hoping it's chonky! I have faith in them that I don't have in a lot of others I guess.

10 named actual bosses, a landmass bigger than Limgrave in "pure surface area", 8 new weapon types.

More chipotle in adobe sauce was delivered on Monday so I'm making a big ole pot of chili with some brisket, belly pork and chicken wings (officially for the gelatin, but also I really like sucking the meat of the flats).

Looking forward to a nice hot bowl of spicey meaty goodness

Chilli update: Brisket takes a while to cook in. But dang it tastes good. Also I have like 9 more portions in that pot, which is a cheerful thought.

From a pure storage perspective, Elden Ring base game is 40 gigs. Elden Ring + Shadow of the Erdtree is 60 gigs.

    That's... substantial

40 is a lot for one new zone worth of content... and compared to souls DLC in the past. Hmm.
Like, base elden ring probably had a very generous amount of game per dollar ratio, but the DLC being two thirds the price of the full game again then makes it feel like it should be another half of an elden ring worth's of stuff or something. 40 is a lot of dollars!

The size on Steam is 50% of the base game.

It's going to be a lot more than 1 new area worth of content.

I'm not shocked at all at a 40 dollar price tag. 70 dollar is the new normal for a full game, even ones full of MTX. I have no doubt 40 will be the new normal for large expansions. Given that Elden Ring didn't MTX us for tail money I'm fine paying a larger up front cost for a huge new chunk of content.

I personally prefer the $40 instead of piece meal content DLC packs and MTX, etc... Return to the "pay to play" days of old. Plus this will definitely be a massive chunk. Game Director said it's From's biggest DLC yet.

Yeah. There was once a time in the early 00s and late 90s where a big ol' expansion pack for a PC game (Brood War, The Frozen Throne) for $30 was considered an exciting and downright cherished thing.

If the content is there, no issues for me. All indications are that it's larger than their old DLCs to match the larger price. It's been two years -- give me a big chunk of new stuff and I'm happy.

Yeah 2 years post-release is a LOT longer than most DLC takes. That and the price point do remind me more of the good ol' days of expansions: Lord of Destruction, Throne of Bhaal, Hordes of the Underdark, Heart of Winter, etc.

I don't care what they call it but full-price expansions gotta have the meat to make them feel worth that price, fromsoft DLC has never done that before so I am very interested to see if the $40 reflects the amount of content compared to the $60 massively stuffed original game or not.
I'm definitely gonna be trying it to find out though.

    Faith/Arcane bleed is a blast.

I hope more weapons scale with Faith/Arc in SotE so we don't just have to do bleed builds.

Some better Int/Arc stuff would be preferable. I love the aesthetics of the death sorceries, so better Int/Faith would rock.

i just ran standard occult weapons for the most part (i did use a flamberge as one of the weapons, so I did have a little bleed) since I already had a dedicated bleed build and didn't want to overlap. i made it a little more interesting by running the war cry weapon arts, to make it into a dragon berserker theme. a few more non-bleed arcane weapons would be appreciated tho

i should do a new run ahead of the DLC just to refamiliarize myself, but i don't know what i'd want to build. i think i remember kicking around the idea of a frost theme and a light, quick pyro with a curved sword when i last left off the game a year ago.

I did frost back when Hoarfrost Stomp was irredeemably broken. Then after that the Darkmoon Greatsword was really nice to run with!

I was trying to decide which character I was going to take into the DLC for the first time….for like 5 seconds.

The only answer is a Pure Dex Malenia build murdering your way through this dream to find your little bro and any other answer is wrong.

Not sure what you're saying here. That FromSoft has never offered a chunky expansion-esque DLC (Old Hunters has entered the chat)? Or that their DLC is never worth the price point regardless of size / price (all of DaS2's DLC and Ringed City would like a word)?

They actually have a pretty good DLC track record. Even Ashes of Ariendel and Artorias of the Abyss are not terrible, even if they are weaker than some others.

I think I've hated the majority of DLC areas. DS2 has good ones, minus the hard mode multiplayer ones I basically ignored. The last few zones of Bloodborne's DLC are great. The DLC for DS1, DS3, and the Hunter's Nightmare all suck.

I hate reused areas/assets, which DS1 and Bloodborne had a ton of. DS3 just had dogshit unfun areas and bosses. DS3 in general has held up the worst on replay, I rate it lower each time.
