Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust
The UK’s first transgender judge is seeking leave to join the litigation in a crucial supreme court case that could significantly affect legal protections for transgender women, the Guardian has learned.
Victoria McCloud, a senior civil judge who became the youngest person appointed as master of the high court in 2010, will make an application to intervene in the supreme court appeal brought by the campaign group For Women Scotland about the legal definition of “woman”. Interveners can put a case without being among the main parties to the litigation.
For Women Scotland is challenging whether Scottish government legislation aimed at improving gender balance on public boards should include transgender women.
The Gender Representation on Public Boards (Scotland) Act 2018 has been the subject of a long-running court action by the group, which most recently resulted in a ruling by Lady Haldane at the court of session that it was lawful to extend the definition of “woman” to transgender women with a gender recognition certificate.
McCloud, who transitioned in the late 1990s and subsequently changed her legal sex under the 2004 Gender Recognition Act, is supported in her application by the Good Law Project.
She is concerned about the effect of a successful appeal – which would affect the whole of the UK – on her legal recognition.
McCloud cannot speak directly to the media because of judicial constraints. A friend of hers said: “This would mean in practice that women like her [with a gender recognition certificate] would lose rights to equal pay with men and experience restricted rights to services or moves to exclude her from spaces such as women’s lavatories.”
Kansas is going where these age verification laws were always going to go and classifying*anything* LGBT as "adult content" that requires ID
The thing with this is that we're quickly approaching the end of this year's legislative session. Everyone wants to finish up fast so they can go campaign. There's no way this survives the governor's veto. With the veto session looking like it's going to be taken up with the budget bill, AGAIN, there's not much chance it'll get an override vote.
The state GOP has been deeply concerned with passing a flat tax this year for campaign reasons. I have my doubts that this bit of guaranteed to be tied up in courts for years culture war bullshit is going to be at the top of their priority list. This is the same group of dummies who've taken exceptionally unpopular positions against medicare expansion and marijuana legalization as badges of honor. They don't know a winning position when it bites them in the ass.
All opinions are my own and in no way reflect that of my employer.
Like Nobusuke Kishi didn’t free himself from prison. We did that.
Did we put him in power in 1931, 1939, and 1941 too?
The US post war had a bent for stability. They released a lot of people who they thought would not cause problems for the US but we’re otherwise representative of the places they had worked. This tends to bias towards the cultural values present before we were there because widespread pushing of our values would have a high likelihood of backfiring*
You need to keep digging into history and not stop once you see something that you can twist to your argument. It’s like that ridiculous “but hitler lost the 1932 presidential election” claim. Just as you should know better that presidential elections are not very important in parliamentary systems. You should know better than “lol the US released him” as if the US didn’t imprison him in the first place because he was a member of the previous government!
Conservative hate groups are pressuring corporations not to.be involved with LGBT issues. In this case they threatened Best Buy that unless the corp prevented it's employees from donating to GLADD, the Trevor Project, etc they would cause problems.
Best Buy, having the courage of a wet noodle, immediately folded. But then the emails came out in a SEC filing
Best Buy should have told them to eat shit. it's not just the right thing to do, but it's also the only legal option here as well. They legally can't prevent their employees from donating to those groups on first amendment grounds.
So I hope people that are in a position to sue, turn around and see the shit out of Best Buy. If they shit ass corps won't do the right thing on their own initiative, then make it clear they'll do the right thing if they don't want to get fucking sued.
The article says it's screening donations from its "employee resource group" not from individual employees.
I'm not sure what an employee resource group is, but as you said, they can't block individual employee donations

They absolutely do not.
They love the idea of dead Jews at the exact right time and place.
And any other dead Jews that happen along the way, any other dead people that happen along the way, is perfectly acceptable.

Yes. Don’t ever mistake an evangelical’s support of Israel for kinship with Jews, or Zionist Republicans’ support of Israel for kinship with evangelicals. Those groups are not friends, they just both happen to hate the same people when they’re not focused on hating each other.

The dilemma (for them) is how half the time they spend is going after progressives and the other half is going after the other parts of the asshole Right that hate them right back
Like, a ton of Ethan Peck’s Twitter feed is dedicated calling out anti-Semitic Republicans like Nick Fuentes and Candace Owens; the rest of it is spent piling hate onto queer people.
Trump has courted both virulent evangelical hatemongers like Fuentes and Zionist assholes, so good luck to all those dipshits in sorting that out. The Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally was explicitly about fomenting anti-Jewish hate, and those are Trump’s “fine people.”

I mean, let me repeat myself, hypocrisy has never been a problem for them, so how is the fact that they are spewing mutually exclusive ideas a "dilemma?" You and I might find the illogic of it a personal failing if we were doing it, but they don't, and they aren't preaching to people who care much about holding mutually rational ideas.
We really need to wrap our heads around the fact that for these folks, our concerns about hypocrisy and the need to be logical sound just as insane to them as their illogic sounds to us. Mocking their hypocrisy, while cathartic, is more than anything just admitting that we don't really grasp how alien their minds are to ours.
It is not hypocrisy for white supremacists to be both anti-Semites and pro-Zionists.
Israel is an apartheid ethnostate. It's a functioning model of what they long for here, of course they will cheer them on. (It's also a convenient place for them to send all the Jews when they assume power here.)

It’s a dilemma for the politicians courting both because you can’t energize your base if your base hates each other. Also, you’re gonna have the risk of your primary candidates picking sides which will result in shutting out huge swathes of your otherwise-guaranteed base; much like how Biden has whole electioneering teams dedicated to picking up Haley voters put off by Trump’s misogyny and anti-women policies, you’d risk opposition candidates hoovering up the pliable parts of the base that hate the other parts.
Like, I’m sure there’s an appreciable bloc of anti-queer Zionists who would much rather vote for Biden or stay home if the other option is voting for the guy inviting in literal Nazis.
There was an article a few years ago by a journalist that reported going to middle east and interviewing an islamist guy that when he got there was reading an Andrew Tate article on his computer, and then he went and interviewed a Jewish settler in the west bank a few days later, and the guy had the same Andrew Tate article up on his computer…
And that pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it…

anyway, here's the BBC latching onto it. transphobic outlets and individuals are loading this up into their revolvers so expect to hear about it for awhile:
