Also, you’re gonna have the risk of your primary candidates picking sides which will result in shutting out huge swathes of your otherwise-guaranteed base; much like how Biden has whole electioneering teams dedicated to picking up Haley voters put off by Trump’s misogyny and anti-women policies, you’d risk opposition candidates hoovering up the pliable parts of the base that hate the other parts.
