Guess who just came into their room and found an escaped tarantula on their wall.
And for maximum fun it is one of my balfouri communal. Apparently the lid of their tank didn't latch properly after the last time I fed them. I'm not even 100% sure how many are supposed to be in there these days, so even though I've now recaptured that escapee I have no way of knowing if there are any more lose in here.

I got four new slings today. Pterinochilus murinus "Mikumi", "Kinsoma", and "Zimbabwe" forms, to get me slightly closer to my completed Pterror Army.
And a Psuedohapalopus sp. "Colombia", which is the smallest tarantula I've ever seen. I made an embarassing noise when I opened up the pot and saw it for the first time.
That little wheel bug has to be newly hatched (well, not newly newly hatched. It has already darkened. But 1st instar).

Yup, it's extremely wee. I had a bad moment when I looked down and saw this leggy little black thing taking cover in my arm hair, because my first assumption when I see a big red abdomen is that it's currently packed full of my delicious blood.
But then I had a closer look and realized who it was, and I put them back outside to begin their murderous spree. I hope to meet them again when they're a heavy metal band mascot the length of my finger joint.
This is Neapo, she is the tiny snake I got myself for Easter but also because I wanted a snake.
Spoiled because somehow there are people who don't find snakes as cute as I do.
It's been a year and a bit, so I figured I'd show a picture of Neapo that I took tonight while taking a break from painting.
Still spoiled because she's no longer a tiny snake, but she's still adorable to me.
It's been a while since I've shared a picture of Neapo.
She continues to get bigger and consume more mice.
Spoilered for still a snake.
So, late last year Neapo escaped.
I don't know if she figured out a way to force the tank door or lid open, or if I failed to secure it properly. (I'm betting the second). But apparently milk snakes are somewhat known as escape artists.
But, I got a new snake today.
She was labeled as a Mojave Pin Het Clown, for whatever that means to geneticists or breeders.
I'm not planning on becoming either of those, I just thought she had a cool pattern.

Mojave and Pinstripe are two specific dominant traits, so they'll always be visible if they're present (though you may not be able to tell when you get a bunch of genes)
In that snake, the Mojave gives the lighter colors and alien head pattern, where pinstripe gives the solide strip along the spine.
Whereas Clown is regressive, requiring two genes, and your wonderful snake there only has one, so not visual.
If you are curious, morph market has a fun genetic wizard.

I had a very minor escape while feeding my Ts on Saturday. One of my P. murinus slings decided to bolt onto the outside of its container. Cue me frozen in place because I didn't have a catch cup handy and had to move to get one but I didn't want to take my eyes off the spider in case it moved again. Luckily I was just able to convince it to walk back into the pot.
Do you think a snake would survive if it escaped where you are, see317? I know if any of my Ts got away they'd eventually die because it gets too cold here, and if they stayed in the house they'd dehydrate. Although I did see a UK based guy in a spider discord who last year had a T run into a crack in his wall and successfully found and caught it again a couple of months later.

Since the thread has been bumped, here's a crappy pic I got on Saturday of my Theraphosa stirmi who molted last month. Only her 3rd molt since I got her and she must be nearly 4" already. Starting to get the velvety look that she will have as an adult, still got the baby booties on her front feet though. And she has started occasionally venturing out of her burrow and sitting where I can see her, hence the reason for the photo, because previously I basically never saw her.

I live in Colorado, so I'm within the natural range for milk snakes in general, though Neapo's species is generally more south west/Mexican.
I also live in an old condominium complex, so if she found her way into the walls between units the cold shouldn't be a problem, though at that point tracking her down is.
Food wise, I've caught enough mice in traps here that I know there's a food source, though I always fed frozen/thawed.

I remember reading a post from someone who lived in, I wanna say Texas, definitely one of the warmer bits of the US, who had a T. blondi escape as a juvenile. He gave it up for dead and then like a year later found it in a closet, fully grown.
