how's the defense? Georgiev is not a bad goalie but if your team isn't carrying their weight, it's pretty understandable your numbers would slump

See the above stats I posted. He let in 4 of 8 shots, then got pulled and his replacement let through 0 of 22.

Unless his defense is trolling him, that says a lot.

Had curry last night. Just cheated with sauce from a jar, but wanted to make a side with it. Wondered if there was something like saag aloo but with cauliflower, and of course there is, it's called gobi palak / palak gobi / a bunch of other names, and I can confirm it's delicious. Cauliflower is probably my favourite vegetable for Indian curries. I think maybe the bumpy surface means lots of flavour coverage?

Sudden and highly unwanted flashback of a much older cousin going face first underneath his wife's dress to take off her girdle with his teeth while older family laughed, clapped, and took pictures. I remember being 10ish and thinking "real weird he's doing mouth sex on his wife right in front of me and God and grandma". Kiss from a Rose is playing on an overhead speaker and I can smell cheap roast beef under dangerously hot heat lamps in a VHF hall

    Lazy dessert:

Peeled & diced 4 bramley apples into a deep pyrex dish. Added a carton of blueberries. Poured a little brown caster sugar over. Put some thin slices of butter over them.

Mixed half bowl of muesli with half a bowl of honey granola with half a teaspoon of cinnamon. Poured this over the fruited and patted it down. Put some more butter on the top.

Into the oven at 160C until the fruit is visually obviously cooked. Got some heavy cream to have with it.

The way I heard it was that back at the start of the century, gelatin dishes were the sort of fancy rich people food that you needed to have servants for, because who has all day to boil down bones into jelly and then do all that molding and stuff?
and then they came up with "instant" gelatin, but the cultural cachet was still there... until the post-war middle class ran it into the ground with stuff like that, and it became almost the literal opposite.

I have an ~10-year-old Kenmore dishwasher that's starting to leak intermittently: we've found water three times across 7 weeks, coming from a dishwasher we use nearly daily.

Only with the third leak did we positively identify that it had to be the diswasher. (The foundation of our 80-year-old house isn't level anymore and the water seems to have gone under the kitchen floor and ran quite far across the concrete slab, going under the fridge and under a wall before pooling under the hall carpet.) I haven't caught it actively leaking, but my wife found the puddle forming yesterday in front of the dishwasher as it began to run towards the hall.

Other than a failing door seal, is there anything else that would explain an intermittent dishwasher leak? As far as I can tell, the leak isn't coming from the plumbing: the intake line and the drain line both seem tight and entirely dry. Given what my wife saw, I do suspect the leak is right up front. The bottom corner of the insulation on the door seemed a bit damp when I was looking at it hours later, which is what makes me fairly confident it's probably a leak around the corner of the door. But I'd like to rule out any other options before ordering a new door seal.

How much pooled water do you get in your cups and oddly shaped items in your dishwasher? Last time I thought I had a leak with mine, it turned out I was spilling all the residual water pools in the door reservoir when unloading which can leak through when you close the door because the bottom hinge doesn't seal until the door is completely closed.

It’s so much wasted space goddamn! There’s enough for a whole fucking extra house just in my inaccessible attic! I don’t want the extra space or would have any use, I’m just so mad it’s available….

Why did they build such a goddamn huge and tall roof……..

    tn10erg2iry1.jpeg

In older houses, that's usually just a consequence of having the roof pitched steeply enough to shed water. People didn't finish the attic because 1) they didn't need the space and 2) it would be too hot in the summer anyway.

Finished the game, or at least one of the endings. I think it's safe to assume there are no "good" endings in the Zone. I did find this ending a bit odd in terms of character motivation given the previous games.

    Ending spoiler
    Strelok ending

The canon ending from CoP in this game is Strelok killing the C-Consciousness so it seems a bit odd that in HoC he is essentially choosing the opposite of that ending from CoP to become C-Consciousness in this one. Perhaps Strelok has become just as nuts as Scar by this point so his motivations are a bit off.

Also a real dick move for Strelok to thank Skif for all his help by trapping him forever instead of waiting 5 more minutes for him to leave.

Not this game's ending related, but deliberate hallucinations or not, it was also a bit weird that the Wish Granter showed you all the endings of CoP that did not happen to Strelok if the canon kill C-C ending did happen here. It was also strange that those scenes were shortened from their originals so understanding it without context im sure would have been even more difficult for those not familiar with the original game.

Solid game. Certainly more story focus than what you had in the previous entries. Personally I only ran into a couple bugs over 100 hours. Liked the extra details and work on various anomaly effects/locations. Appreciated all the world building details, environmental storytelling, and various easter eggs they included for players to find.

Really looking forward to see what ideas modders will come up with once the official tools are out. In my case a couple things I'd like to change would be making income to be primarily from missions or selling artifacts instead of guns. Guns are common as dirt in the Zone so they shouldn't be worth much for selling. Certainly not enough to serve as your primary income. I think repairing items should either be non existent or very expensive (even more expensive than it is currently). That would undermine the existing upgrade system, so I'd like a lot of those stat upgrades to switch to be done via the attachments or other replaceable internal components you could swap between guns. This would be to encourage more scavenging gameplay where you swap to better condition equipment as you come across it, just throwing away your current busted gear rather than paying a fortune to keep repairing it. It would also make finding a stash with a pristine weapon or armor far more impactful on gameplay choices than the extra 1000 credits you'd get from schlepping it back to a vendor.

STALKER GAMMA (and I think ANOMALY, which GAMMA was built on) had a veeeerrry granular "upgrade" and repair system which, frankly, got tedious as fuck. You could actually take an assortment of the correct parts and make a gun but there were so many guns with so many parts in such poor condition and repairing them was so costly that it was an absolutely enormous time investment dealing with that shit. I had two boxes full of several dozen different weapon components because I had so much shit it all weighed too much to fit in one box. Something like that, but with the tedious factor dialed waaaaay back, is something I could support. But overall I hate the idea of dealing with constantly-busted shit because firearm upkeep is not hard. Bandits walking around the Zone with cheap sawn-offs and revolvers make sense, but they would still be in good basic functioning condition.

However, yeah, when you did find a couple pristine parts, it was significant. Maybe a system with a lot fewer parts and lower repair costs/conditions for parts (I fucking hate having part condition gated by finding tools and shit for mechanics)? Because finding pristine shit should definitely be more impactful than getting some cash.

Anyway, now that other people have hit the ending, I can finally talk about what I encountered.
I got the... Zone ending? Basically the premise is that everybody, even Strelok, is trying to tune the Zone to their own ends. I didn't kill Doctor, but he was "taken" by an Emission. I actually had to fight and kill Strelok, which even included a fucking awesome little callback where you pick up Strelok's old PDA with the "KILL STRELOK" mission on it and hit the button to complete it. And he didn't just use artifacts, he could actually use anomalies like attacks. Pretty crazy fight. By the reasoning of the route I took, Strelok was kinda trying to "free" the Zone but he was freeing his idea of the Zone, so he was still trying to control it like everyone else. The fact that he tried to kill me over it fairly well reinforced the notion that he was out there too, mentally. I fought and killed Scar, who was obviously an asshole. I'd already destroyed the C-Consciousness earlier as the conclusion we came to for that was that it was not really a mind and rather just data caught in the noosphere, more an algorithm that was kinda fucking up the Zone rather than an actual mind. Then we do some scanner shit and I guess Skif transmits himself into the noosphere? Except whereas the C-Consciousness was trying with an artificial copy of the Heart of Chornobyl they built, Skif does it with the actual Heart.

Then the wildest part is that the suspicious-looking globe down in Doctor's basement with the lights on it starts lighting up. Presumably, this means the Zone spreads to other places in the world? Which has both interesting and horrifying ramifications as the Zone does allow for humanity to learn some wild shit, but fucking with the noosphere also created the fucked-up Zone we play in. Maybe without bad intentions trying to control and direct the Zone, it isn't so wild and deadly?

And for extra mindfuck, a final cinematic showed the Doctor at his house but he is revealed to be Faust, who now has working eyes. And I don't know what other branching there is in the game, but much earlier I had also found out that Faust is not only a mutant himself but is actually a Controller. So it seems like along with humans getting turned into various kinds of mutants, they can largely stay normal but get the "mutant" aspects.
I feel like the ending I got would be the easiest one to make sequels for, but also has the wildest potential for impact. Maybe not a good ending, but just... and ending. A new direction. Some unprecedented that breaks out of the old cycle. I certainly liked that ending quite a lot.

    Also, glad to know
I was right to not trust Strelok.

A 20% damage buff across the board is already pretty nice, but the AoE explosion is what is really going to decide it. It has to do enough damage to make up gun strike damage plus whatever talents effect gun strikes and the immunity from damage that gun strikes grant. Just having a second to breathe is very nice.

One time just after college I visited my sister after she'd baked some bread. The bread just didn't rise for whatever reason, so it was super dense and she'd called it her lembas bread.
Well, I made a sandwich out of it. I cut the slices as thin I could, but I could barely finish it and I pretty much passed out for two hours later and didn't even eat supper.
