If I understand correctly, the jury is still out on whether we'll actually be recycling threads.
Not really. I don't expect thread length guidelines to change from what we have here. Long running threads should be refreshed voluntarily once they hit 100, fast moving threads can use a Gort command to lock and elect new thread creators
It creates a lot of psychological friction for both reading/posting in old threads and creating new threads if there's megathreads that are like 7 years old and 200 pages long.

This one record collecting forum I frequent has a couple of threads that are like... 7000 pages long. And yeah, even as someone who has been around for the bulk of those threads' existence, it's wildly intimidating to even click on them.
Hell, New Jersey, it said on the letter. Delivered without comment. So be it!
I don't think we'll have anyone that will be jerks about it, but you never know and my WoW days have taught me that some people can be real asses if given the chance. I remember quickly learning to dislike massive megathreads when I was using the ElitistJerks forums because there was a whole group of people that would insist that someone go back and read some past post in a megathread. Ignoring that said post was really hard to find and sometimes completely irrelevant to what someone was asking, as a result of some patch change but it didn't stop people from being douchebags about it.
