    Jonesphallburg Gazette

MAFIA OUSTED BUT CAN CITY REBUILD
    Story by: A Wright

The mobster menace threatening Jonesphallburg came to an end on Monday night with the incarceration of Miss Quoth Totuli, hitman for hire working with the Cosa Nostra family.

Citizens, utilizing the vote provided through a declaration by Mayor Klein, decided that the woman was suspicious and voted for her to be escorted to jail. When Sheriff Dundee put the handcuffs on her, Quoth began lecturing the citizenry gathered in the Hall.

Witnesses report that the hitman ranted and raved about how weak the people of Jonesphallburg were and how it was easy for the four-member family to spread the influence of Cosa Nostra throughout the town. The dead were lucky, Quoth said, that they had been freed from their dull and simple lives. Quoth promised, it was said, to do her time in prison and then return to freeing the dull from mediocrity. It would be her pleasure, she said, to work once more to establish the Mafia in another sleepy town.

After Quoth was escorted from the hall and confirmed to have the distinctive tattoo of the mob, Mayor Klein congratulated the suriving townsfolk on their perseverence and sense of duty. Their town had been tested, he told them, but they were proven strong enough to continue. As he adjourned his final Town Hall Meeting, Mayor Klein assured citizens that he would work day and night to restore Jonesphallburg to its previous glory and level of safety.

Suffocated to death - JustPlainPavek, Police officer
Jailed - Quoth, Cosa Nostra Hitman

    Game over - Village Win!

For those interested, here's the spreadsheet I was tracking things with. Toxic has some sort of version of it, too and he might have added other things to track, but at least here's what I was working with (as a double-check if Toxic needed it): Here.

    [Edit]
Also, there was definitely some strangeness with the Specials in this game, but the novelty and bizarre-ness worked, I guess. Mafia was so close to a Flawless Victory and then it all fell apart. Haha.

It was definitely fun to watch with my insider knowledge. ;)

Here are the PMs that were sent out.

    Villager:
    Citizen,

You have accepted Mayor Klein’s call to action. You have decided to work with the rest of the people of your fair town to rid yourself of the mafia plague.

Every night you can vote for one person to be put in jail.

We know that you will do your part to save the town

    -JPD and the Mayor’s office

    Vig:
You are an officer of JDP. You will not let your fellow officer die in vain. You brother in service will avenged.

You are the Vengeful Officer. Once a night, you can kill any other town member. The Cosa Nostra family is your target; clean your town with gun fire.

    Gaurd:
You are an officer of JDP. You will not stand see any other person of your town to die. You will protect and serve.

You are the Protecting Officer. Once a night you can pick one person to guard from death a night. Send me a PM with you want to protect. The village is your target.

    Mason:
You are not going to let the mafia take over the town you were born and raised in. Yet, it’s hard to know who to trust with the power of the Cosa Nostra. The only person you can trust is your brother, XXXXX. You both loyal citizens to Jonesphallaburg.

    Don:
But you really don't care about saving the town; you want to take it over.

You are the Don of the Cosa Nostra family.

As the Don you can intimidate any other play from the shadows. You make any one person’s action void. PM me the name of the person and all their action canceled, be it special or vote.

Being Don means that you don’t get you hands dirty with the day to day nastiness of business. Your crew handles that.

Underboss – Grundlterror. He PMs me the kill for the day. If he dies, it’s now your job.
Hitman – Quoth. She is a quick clean killer. If she dies or is jailed you loose a kill for that day.
Solider – El Skid. He is the thug that will kill a man with his bare hand. If he dies or is jailed you loose a kill for that day.

If both the Hitman and Solider die, the mafia retains only one kill. The above PM guidelines still applies.

    Underboss:
But you really don't care about saving the town; you want to take it over.

You are the Underboss of the Cosa Nostra family.

As the Underboss you need to make sure your crew is doing as told. You are the only one that PMs me the kill order, I will not accept any other order.

    This is your crew:

The Don – FrostMist. He is calling the shot behind the scenes. If you die or are jail, he will be the one PMing the kill order.

The above PM guidelines still applies

    Hitman:
But you really don't care about saving the town; you want to take it over.

You are the Hitman of the Cosa Nostra family.

You are the quick cleaner with no remorse. You are the person that carries out the kill. If you die or are jailed, the mafia looses a kill. You answer to your Underboss who PMs me the order.

    This is your crew:

The Don – FrostMist. He is calling the shot behind the scenes. If the Underboss dies or is jailed, he will be the one PMing the kills order.
Underboss – Grundlterror. He PMs me the kills for the day. If he dies or is jailed, the Don will PM in the kill.
Solider – El Skid. He is the thug that will kill a man with his bare hand. If he dies or is jailed you loose a kill for that day.

If both the Hitman and Solider die, the mafia retains only one kill. The above PM guidelines still applies. If both the Don and Underboss dies, you are free to call your own kill order.

    Solider:
But you really don't care about saving the town; you want to take it over.

You are the Solider of the Cosa Nostra family.

You are a thug that will kill a man with your bare hands and not care.

Hitman – Quoth. She is a quick clean killer. If she dies or is jailed you loose a kill for that day.

If both the Hitman and Solider die, the mafia retains only one kill. The above PM guidelines still applies. If both the Don and Underboss dies, you are free to call your own kill order.

So let me know what you all thougt. This was the first every phalla that I ran, so any comments or advice would be nice.

I could not have done this with out LaOs. He created the spreadsheet I am using and wrote all the narration. Thank you LaOs for everything.

And sorry it took so long, with the site going down and people making odd choices it went on longer then I thought it would.

BTW - I so thought the Mafia was going to win for most of the game. Day 5 was the turning point. Too bad most of the village had to die though. :D

You know, it was awesome because when I went on that serial-killer rant I managed to figure out who every single Mafia member was.

In future, I'll actually do something with that, but that was really quite hilarious.

Wow, so FreeAgent wasn't even a seer in the end? It was pure guesswork on FrostMist then, although El Skid, you were far too solicitous for your own good, that really convinced me I was on the right track more than anything... Yeah, sorry to all the villagers I killed, and by way of explanation for some of the vigilante's weirder moves:

    - I didn't use my kill the first night because, man, dying round one sucks for enough people as is, and it was too early to guess who I should be using it on.
    - Bliss101 wasn't in the vote lead when I left that night, and I really did think he was suspicious... sorry man.
    - It only occurred to me that I could confirm whether Fred's guardian status was legit after that first day. I did indeed target him that night for a kill while he guarded himself. I'm not sure why it took me that long, other than this is actually the first "normal" phalla I've ever played. I kept expecting a seer, I think.
    - I guess I didn't really want to believe Quoth was evil until the very end, so sorry to Pseudolus / Manbergur. I honestly thought Manbergur was the last of the mafia, but Toxic Toys gave me a restriction that I had to use my kill on someone who wasn't the vote winner. Fred Cheese and I really didn't have much to go on after we figured Grundlterror.

So yeah, sorry to those I botched this for, and thanks for the game, Toxic and LaOs!

ed- El Skid: actually my idea was to use my vig kill on myself and go out Bruce-Willis-in-Sin-City-style, but I guess Quoth got to me first. :P

Oh, and did the mafia really not realize Fred and I were officers, or did you just decide to go after the remaining villagers? The narration when I first targeted Fred for a kill practically gave away our names, I was pretty sure we wouldn't last long after, even with Fred's guardian...

Was the hit on the masons totally random luck?

Ill do taht again and again because we had no seer. I was trying to get him to come out and seer me. Pavek attacked me when I self guarded. I guarded TehSpectre on night one and Pavek every night after he found me. I was already assigned to gaurd him last night but he asked me to guard myself so I did.

I knew it was a bad idea to come out and say Im the guardian and Ive watched a few of these to know that a guardian who can guard himself is very valauble.

Also I asked Pavek to kill Quoth the last few nights but he did not.

I don't think being that solicitous when everything else was going wrong was bad... Heck, as a villager I would have done the same thing- At the time, the village was really screwed.

I thought the mafia did a really good job in this game- the odds were totally stacked against us (imo), given that all you had to do is peg me or quoth turn 1 and the mafia would be down to 1 kill for the entire game.

Not having a seer at all in the game was...a bit weird :o

It was as much a giveaway to the Village, especially without a Seer.

That said, I probably wouldn't do something like that again... or would I? Only one player seemed to catch on, and I could have just been making names up--there were named Characters narrated who weren't Players all throughout the game.

    But yeah, it was borderline.

Some very experienced players were Mafia with them calling the shots and say I was doing the wrong thing and trying to get me bandwagoned is something plkayers should look for in future games. Do not listen to experienced plkayers all the time they might be lying. Use your head and dont be a sheep. Did anyone catch the broken [/quote] tag fakeout? ;)

The Roles were divied up amongst the 20 player slots randomly, and I think Toxic assigned Players their player slot number randomly as well.

No seer. My idea was all the village specials were officers. The seer was investagating Officer Richards and he died in the day 1 narration so no0 one got that role. The vig was Officer Justin "PlainPavek" Richards, brother to the dead officer. The guard was Officer Fredrick Cheese.
I just noticed what Pavek said about being named unnecessarrilly in the narration. Had I seen that Id have cried fowl. I wouldnt do that in future narrations as its a giveaway hint to the mafia team.

I allowed it because LaOs was giving all the towns people names. I did shit a brick when I first saw it, but decided it vauge enough to let it slide. Seem like no one else but JPP caught it, as you just noticed it after it was pointed out.

I was worried that I made the mafia too strong. You all started with 2 kills and a void power. That is the reason I had it so only 1 person could send in the kills.

As for not having a seer, I wanted to see what people could logic out from others actions.

I was going crazy with laughter Day 2 when, on the Mafia board, they mentioned they were going to hit Maximus and Varcayn that night--both brothers, outta nowhere... bam!

And then, Fred Cheese was winning the vote for much of the day that day, too. It was too much: the Mafia was going to take out both Masons and the Guardian on the second day!

The vote ended up swinging away from Fred, but it was still pretty funny.

When I had the idea for a mafia phalla, I was looking for ways the make the bad guys feel like the mafia. The void power is a reflection of bribing judges, tampering with witnesses, buying people off, and general strong arm tatics to make people do what they want.

Having the higher ups send in the PM was to reflect that mob hits are not people just going around an shooting each other. It is an order from some one in the upper part of the family to take out someone or do something.

And JPP did an awesome job for the most part. A little to triger shy but he was able to piece some things together near the end, causing the down fall of both FrostMist and El Skid in one night - that was the turning point.

The village won, Gumpy, because the only person left is the guard.

Opened the probards, JPP you played a good game man :P

Fred, I would really rethink that strategy you used. The village won because you made some lucky guesses, your guardianship and reveal did absolutely nothing to help you whatsoever. We knew you were the guardian for a good bit of the game and figured you were just guarding yourself.. so we mildly attempted to bandwagon you and ignored you in the kills.

Good game everyone, thanks Toxic and Laos =)

Can a police officer defend themself? I kept it simple for me, the Guard could protect any one. Including themself. It was my fist game and I was trying things out.
