Odds are that there won't be quite as much of the "stupid" dialogue this time around. Some of the things a really thick character could do were hilarious.
There won't be any stupid dialouge according an interview I read a while back.
Yeah, that's what I was referring to. It's a pity, being stupid was a viable choice for the Fallout games. Well, technically I suppose it's viable here too but they're not going to cater for it with different things happening to dumb people.
Will there at least be "smart" dialogue? Because, I really enjoyed being able to talk my way through some battles... e.g. the Master.

Should be, since they've said that they're trying to make dialogue one of the viable character styles along with stealth and force. I'd also say it's likely since they've said even a skill like Science can sometimes effect dialogue options.

What was the Oblivion joke, though?

That concept art actually isn't too bad. Not normally a fan of that, but I might have to pick up the Collector's Edition if it's still available upon release.

This is going to be my first Fallout, and I am super pumped to try this. I wasn't sure if I was going to buy it at first, but the sweet collectors edition made the decision easy.

My only fear is that it will feel too much like Oblivion. I really didn't like Oblivion.

Naked molerats are the coolest motherfuckers.

They're the only mammals with a subterranean hive social structure, like termites or ants.

And they have an inability to feel pain, like fire or needles.

But as a bonus, it will be an appropriate time-waster while waiting for Clear Sky to come out.

Don't get too psyched though; the game might simply not be for you. Just give it until Lab X18 as I always say.

this may have already been asked, but,

how would one go about playing the first two fallout games?

I have Vista, and I've had experience that it in fact hates older games.

First off, have you tried installing the games?

If you don't have a copy, there's a re-released DVD from another company that has Fallout 1, 2, and tactics. You can probably find it on Amazon. I found mine at Fry's Electronics.

EDIT: I'd like to take this space and declare my unbridled sadness at the fact that I can't go through Fallout 3 groin-punching my way to success. RIP groin-punches.

no, i haven't tried installing it as I am always sad when I go get something and it doesn't work. But thanks for the tip and the source of the trilogy. I'll have to check it out.

There are also several fan patches out there that can help as well. I recently ran through fallout 2 on my Vista machine with no issues.

Has Bethesda officially denied groin punching? I know it's not in there right now, but I ask because I wonder if they'll make it a trait or something.

Have they talked about Bloody Mess as well? In some ways it'd be nice if it were just a configureable option, but if they made it a trait, it would help new gamers understand the joy we all have about the Fallout universe. Of course, if they are shooting for a teen rating it's all moot.

I really doubt they're shooting for a teen rating.

What with the exploding heads and all.

And the bloody mess trait is pretty lame. Takes out all the reward of making an awesome critical.

I usually pick up 2 traits anyway so there's no room for Bloody Mess.

I agree, but for a different reason. I missed some of the cool non-criticals, like the riddling with bullets from automatic weapons, I think. I usually played high perception characters that could critical well-enough on their own.

It's in. It was actually one of the first things they ever talked about, so I guess they like it alot.

As for a teen rating, I give you these:

They said a long time ago that there is none.

Assuming they release a CS, and assuming you buy it on PC, and assuming they haven't changed their mind and put it in themselves, you'll probably have it a couple days after release.
