What the fuck happened to the super cool atmosphere of RA1?
You might be confusing "super cool" with "super campy", which is always what Red Alert has been about. The psychic schoolgirls and folksinging commandos are pretty much in line with that.
Yeah. I mean, seriously. C&C has three different series now for a reason -
Tiberium - Futuristic, Dramatic, Semi-Realistic Future Technology
Generals - Modern, Realistic Weaponry & Scenarios
Red Alert - Campy, Alternate Universe off the wall Sci-Fi, Comic Book stuff
I imagine they'll tackle the generals series again with a new engine after RA3 (thus keeping a cycle of Generals / Tiberium / Red Alert, with Generals the first on each engine), and it's a damn fine way of working things. The Psychic Schoolgirls are no worse than Tesla stuff.
There any way to grab a beta key without having bought Kane's Wrath beforehand? Like a contest or something? Because I am getting so jealous at you guys.

As far as I know, there are still copies of Kane's Wrath out there with the beta key in. You've just gotta get one with the RA3 symbol on the front. And the beta is running til mid/late September according to the C&C website/TV show so there's plenty of time to get in and play.
Besides, you should've bought Kane's Wrath anyway, because it's awesome.
I dunno, I liked Red Alert better when it wasn't blatantly retarded (re: the first one). The German commander and General Stavros were heavily overacted, but the story still existed well enough to suspend disbelief. This just feels really stupid, like some parts in Red Alert 2 and most of Yuri's Revenge (though I liked most of RA2 original well enough).
I hope there's at least something worthwhile in the plot, but it doesn't sound like it.
(edit) I should note that this refers to story and atmosphere only. The gameplay in RA2 was unquestionably better than the first.
Yeah, RA was silly, but still played seriously. It was... awesome and a little dark. RA was no sillier than the original C&C, all in all.
RA2 was funny, and a break from the norm, but I wouldn't say its 'what RA is about' because, well, it clearly wasn't... if we hark back to the roots of the series. RA3 looks great but, really, I do miss the more toned down nature of RA.
Maybe for Red Alert 4 someone will travel back in time and undo the story from Red Alert 3 so that the events of 1 and 2 did happen all along! Maybe it could be a psychic, folk singing, commando japenese schoolgirl.
Well, the key philosophy of even Red Alert 1 was to explore areas and technologies that were looked at during the Cold War but turned out to be crazy, impossible ideas like Tesla.
In that respect, the Japanese stuff fits. The Japanese have been in many ways the kings of crazy emerging technology, and robotics in particular - so all these Gundam/Transformer style tanks really fit with the RA universe ideals of "What if technology turned out different, or evolved more quickly?"
As for the schoolgirls, well.. psychic powers and mind control have been a part of RA all along, so stretching it to this doesn't bother me that much.

Hah the backstory sounds funny. As for bad? Man if you can time travel once, if you even let it into your backstory in any way, shape or form, it's all over. It's done with. You can't complain anymore. Just bring the t-rexs out and start the stomping party already.
So this sounds great.

And so Cynic goes to a torrent site of dubious reputation and finds the client, starts downloading it and laughs as he gets 40 times the speed. Useless fileplanet.

I had a hell of a time trying to download it. Turns out their download manager doesn't play well with Opera.

Can the Japanese psychic schoolgirls transform.
This will help in my decision of buying day one or buying day before.

Loved those guys.
I'm going to be all over the soviets
invading your hooome
with bears and squids
There are no squids. Yuri doesn't exist in the RA3 timeline, so the Soviets have no psychic tech, hence no mind controlled squid.
I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
I hope the fact that you can quite easily have bear cannons will make up for it, even slightly.
This is the only disappointing thing about RA3 I've heard so far. With the whole focus on naval battles, I thought it was a given...

So this sounds great.
The sidebar isn't MISSING, it just seems to autocollapse now.
Which I'm fine with.
Fileplanet smash. 40 kbps. This isn't what I subscribe for.
Cynic I don't get why yours is going so slowwwwwwwwwwwwww, mine if hovering at around 1.3 mbps.
Their europe server is down and none of the mirrors give me anything above 20 to 40. It is making me want to inflict severe bodily harm upon people.
Norway? More like Snoreway.
I can't bring myself to feel bad for someone who can get fresh mountain-spring-brewed Guinness anytime they want.
What are the system specs for this though? nothing too high I hope.
