Time Chasers was my first episode. To this day I find the idea of a massive Canadian maple syrup smuggling operation hilarious just because of Eddie's throwaway joke.
Oh, also, the company that made that movie is apparently still in business and seems to be proud of being the biggest indy film studio in Vermont.
Fun fact! As far as I know, MST3k was the only show the Sci-Fi channel moved its bug/graphic to the lower-left corner instead of the right, since the latter blocked the view of Crow's head.
I kinda bailed after Joel left. Though Mike was good.
I've never even seen an episode with Pearl.
What?
Space Mutiny was with Pearl.
How have you not seen Space Mutiny?
Really I never got into Mike, and loosing Forrester/Servo was kind of another nail in the coffin.
And I went to a college that didn't have cable in the dorms.
Essentially that was the "they're still doing mst3k?" era for me.
Mike took over in the middle of season 5, Frank left after season 7, and Dr. F left after season 8. Although Pearl came on for season 8 to fill in (for losing Frank I guess) she wasn't the main antagonist until seasons 9 & 10.
Yeah the host segments in those last few seasons were pretty terrible sometimes, but there's still some really good riffing.
I'm a big fan of Joel and the early seasons (especially 3 and 4) but I've seen every episode, I sat down one year and watched one show every night or so, took about a year to get thru, and I can tell you there are plenty of later season eps worth watching. Almost all of them actually...
Btw they recently showed the pilot episode (KTMA 00) at a con somewhere, there's videos of it floating around the net-o-tubes. It's short though, 15 minutes or less.

Hey, I did that too.
The thing about Joel and Mike for me is that I started watching around season 3 and watched it on Comedy Central a lot for a few season, but then it kind of went away until I saw it was going to be on Sci Fi again. So I started watching it again, but now I actually got to watch a lot of episodes with my friends. So for me it's like split evenly for liking Joel and Mike, I like both of their styles, and I like plenty of episodes from both their runs. So I pretty much just consider any argument about who's better stupid because there's no point to it. Obviously you can prefer one to the other, but to actually argue about it is just as dumb as the idiotic Kirk vs. Picard argument.
Those videos are pretty cool jwalk. I like seeing the beginnings.
Also I actually quite like the host segments. Not the later ones so much but I enjoy the zany dialogue and especially the crazy inventions. Also I like it when they sometimes continue riffing on the film.

I really like the last DVD box set they released
The artwork for the covers/lobby cards is excellent
has a lot of cast interviews, too. could be a nice buy some time

Future War isn't actually a bad episode, it's pretty funny
It's just that it feels like they were tired that day and phoned in certain parts
I mean there is a part where a woman dressed as a nun goes to a gang hideout and says "Monsters in the hood" and then they transition suddenly to a shot of a blue sky for no reason
And they don't even say anything
There's a lot to make fun of there but a lot of the mockery just seems to go unsaid
I remember liking future war the first time I saw it but I never had the desire to spend an hour and half to rewatch it. maybe I should though, it was a pretty absurd movie with "jean claude gosh darn" and will probably be better the second time around

It also had Eddie Deezen in it. If you don't know who that is, look him and then you will.
You're thinking of the Skipper

Like a really heavy rock tied around his neck and then he's thrown into a river.
she was going to look bad no matter what. but also the need for a storyline by scifi probably hurt the writing, too
