I think, for me at least, it's just the anticipation of terrible history repeating itself. Jordan died before he could finish the series and I started that in 90 or 91. I started Martin's series in 96 and the dude ain't exactly in the best of health.
I didn't like Jordan as much though.
(Dear God, my roommate just popped in the Mortal Kombat movie; my poor brain.)
i'm never going to read them now, because i'm sick of hearing about them
that's moderately retarded
not really
the books are linked with me being annoyed in my mind
so, i'm not going to read something i associate with being annoyed
Seems reasonable after you're annoyed, but being annoyed seems a bit silly. I'm not about to foreswear visiting Seattle because of the ridiculous amount of jacking off to the city that I see here.
you guys are the rabid fans that ruin it for everyone else
That's just plain silly. If I were a rabid fan, I would have questioned your sexuality and parentage about twenty times by now.
If you guys don't want to read them because they're popular with certain people and it annoys you, I guess that's a valid reason. I happen to think they're a fun read, better than 99% of the fantasy fiction out there, but to each his own.

well, i love books. i come in this thread to talk about books, and all i see are OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK spoiler spoiler LET ME FUCK YOUR MOUTH MARTIN OH WAIT YOU'D LIKE THAT BECAUSE YOU'RE FAT spoiler spoiler spoiler EVERYONE SHOULD READ THESE HURRRRRGH
and, well
i just can't get into that sort of thing. the fact that there is so much talking about asoif makes me not want to read this thread, because i've got no idea what's going on.
i know you said in SE but seriously, the thread has been taken over by this series, if you really want to talk about it that much then go to the thread specifically made for you to talk about it

This is probably why you won't read the Bible, you heathen sinner! I hope you burn in Hell for all of eternity with your pagan ways, with your philandering, your drinking and your dancing!
i actually don't have anything to read. i was reading a collection of raymond carver short stories, but i lent it to a friend. then i was reading watchmen, but i lent that to a friend.
i'm afraid to start reading anything else, lest i lend it to a friend.

Start reading Twilight to punish your friend
Then read something good without your friend daring to disturb you
Count Zero is weird that way, I think I know what you mean. It's like Gibson just took the atmosphere of all the rest of his work and condensed it into one plotless novel.
So, I was digging through some of my boxes in the closet, you know, the ones that have all kinds of junk in them, and guess what I found? All of my old high school English books that were assigned to us:
The Great Gatsby
The Grapes of Wrath
East of Eden
Julius Caesar (I read as Brutus for the class reading!)
The Man in the Iron Mask
Silas Marner (I wish I could pin down why, but I've always liked this one.)
Of Mice and Men
The Illiad
The Odyssey
Lord of the Flies
Ethan Frome
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Farenheit 451
Frankenstein
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Cyrano de Bergerac (I read as Cyrano!)
Billy Budd
To Kill a Mockingbird (My grandad used to read this one to me; special place in my heart and all.)
Plus some extras I picked up in college for my own personal reading:
Thus spoke Zarathustra (Dear God, what was I thinking?)
L'Morte D'Arthur (Been reading that one on and off for years.)
The Hound of the Baskervilles
Siddhartha (Loved it)
Steppenwolf (Loved it even more)
Slaughterhouse Five (And so it goes....)
I have been blowing through Anna Karenina pretty fast over the past week
I thought it would take me forever, but it's such a pleasure to read that I find myself making time to read when I otherwise wouldn't be
I don't even know why I like it so much, I'll have to think about it
I know what you mean. Anna Karenina is probably my favorite novel, but I doubt I could explain why.
Svidrigailov on
Neither the whole of truth nor the whole of good is revealed to any single observer, although each observer gains a partial superiority of insight from the peculiar position in which he stands. It is enough to ask of each of us that he should be faithful to his own opportunities and make the most of his own blessings, without presuming to regulate the rest of the vast field.

And here I was, ready to start liking you again.
and there's a whole damn thread devoted to this in the WB so it's not like you have nowhere to go
and anyway we all know they would get peter f. hamilton to finish the books so relax
I didn't like Jordan as much though.

it's fun to see people read the cool parts and their reactions to it

Praise the lord.
also, it's rare that people talk about it outside of six or so well-known parables that get brought up in sermons.
My irony is wasted here.
hurray
oh that crazy
lisbon earthquake of 1755
i'm afraid to start reading anything else, lest i lend it to a friend.
Now I'm about sixty pages into The Road. I feel like drowning myself in the toilet.
Oh, well. I'm sure there's a happy ending waiting for me. McCarthy's always good for those.
Start reading Twilight to punish your friend
Then read something good without your friend daring to disturb you
i'm crossing my fingers
ahahah yesss
Voltaire in Geneva!
though honestly it just feels more like looking at a bunch of words than actually reading
I don't know what that means but that's how it feels
where at?
I don't think I noticed it
The Great Gatsby
The Grapes of Wrath
East of Eden
Julius Caesar (I read as Brutus for the class reading!)
The Man in the Iron Mask
Silas Marner (I wish I could pin down why, but I've always liked this one.)

Dang. I gots me some readin' to do.
I kinda get this "why yes, I am very cool, I read cyberpunk" feeling when I read it
which is not the feeling I want to have
huh I'll have to check it out when I get off work
Something wrong with that.
I thought it would take me forever, but it's such a pleasure to read that I find myself making time to read when I otherwise wouldn't be
I don't even know why I like it so much, I'll have to think about it
it's slow going. i might just read dark tower or something trashy i've never read before.
I know what you mean. Anna Karenina is probably my favorite novel, but I doubt I could explain why.
