I believe Scyther and Pinsir will nearly always win. After that there's a bunch of different things that are all around the same place. But species is more important than level by a lot.
Dangit, now you've got me pulling out my old copy of Gold. It was bound to happen, considering the Evil Eight's recent victory in the Pokephalla, I suppose. Anyway, I need to round out my team:
Zubat
Flaaffy
Butterfree
Croconaw
Growlithe
Butterfree will be leaving soon, and I kind of want to trade out Croconaw for a Water-type with a better special attack (but not Quagsire... I hate Quagsire.) Maybe Lapras? And then there's another spot I need to fill besides. Any ideas? I'm at the Ghost-type gym, which is... 4? I don't need anything right away, as between Zubat and Growlithe I've got plenty of Dark-type attacks, but relatively soon I'm going to need to fill up these spots.
Man I like Pearl so far, but my fucking Budew isn't happy enough yet to evolve and its already level 25 so I know I'm missing out on some cool moves it COULD be learning.
I havent even seen any fucking other grass types yet except the Diamond only one.
Yeah, theres a lack of useful grass types in this game. That doesn't bother people as much as the lack of fire types does.
But, go to the Mansion on Route 212 and get yourself a Soothe Bell. Ride around for a while with Budew at the lead, use it in battle but don't let it get hurt or stay damaged. There's a massage lady in Veilstone.
oh and yes, it only evolves in the daytime.

See, I've already got my Chimchar, and I got a Ponata, and like 2 other fire types. But grass was always one of my favorites and I was hoping for another one
If you have a favorite, and can get online with your DS, we can give you whatever you want, unless it's a Legendary. (I'm sure some can even give you whatever Legendary you want.)
He's pretty sturdy, good health and a decent special defense so he can take a hit or two. Roost can give him some healing and Airslash takes advantage of his okay special attack and flying type.
Noctowl is plenty good for the regular game. Plus him and Chatot are like the only Normal/Flying types who are useful as Special Attackers, which is sorta neat. Its not a strong attacker though. Its more about HP and SpDef like Marsh said.
He can be taught Heat Wave in Platinum!
I guess when birds vibrate their wings fast enough they can shoot fire? Makes sense to me.

i probably should have checked that but whatevs
Oh, yeah. Special Attack might be important for a ghost.
all beaming all the time and laughing like HA HA HA
Oro?
Or did you mean OKAY. I get so confused sometimes. Stupid name.
I forgot how much of a pain in the ass it is to trade between Gold and Silver and Red/Blue/Yellow
Haha! You have a new move on your old Pokemon! Bust a move outta here!
Oh, wow. I looked at that for about three minutes before I understood what you were getting at.
Yes, I meant okay. Sorry about that!
quick
someone tell me which is more likely to win the bug catching contest
a level 14 scyther or a level 15 beedrill
But Scyther is really cool
hmm
apparently it's just level and rarity
I need to get a sun stone, so I guess I'll go with the beedrill
a venonant won
glad I saved before I finished

Whenever you've got time and I'm online let me know, man.
The Regi won't be given away for a few weeks.
If anyone hasn't gotten theres yet, you only have Friday and Saturday left.
Terrendos, Lapras is a great choice. Maybe drop Butterfree for Heracross? I don't even know what else is available in GS. Its been so long.

I train almost all my pokemon in sp. atk

[tiny]You don't train Blissey for HP and Sp.Def.[/tiny]
That's why I said almost.
My Machamp is my only physical attacker.

seems easier to get a grass and a water type early on and I hate those damn ponytas
EDIT: To Projeck.
But don't ever bring that weak shit up against me, son. 8-)

if the attack being used is the same type as the pokemon, it gets a %50 damage boost
