It's actually the exact opposite, Haps. That's what makes it so tricky to really grasp -- that MYSELF is never given to me first, that I always substitute my own personal subjective self with the OTHER, that the giveness of the I is actually hidden in the other.
Basically, we are always whiney teenagers who want to be like everyone else until we fully grasp our authentic existence.
Wow, ok. Reading it again I can see it. My grasp on your funny language isn't good enough for philosophy.
and the German wonders why I have so many problems when translating academic German...sheesh...

Hey, at least you have someone who tries to help you from time to time.

Especially since it should be near -5 for the normal. It had been feeling warmer of late, too.
I think Canadia is off my list of possible other places to live...my joints would die in that kind of coldness
Florida?
But that would mean living in Florida.
Florida really isn't that bad :P

Haps! Is the German word for uneducated "ungelernte"? I wrote that down in my German exam because it sounded about right, but most people laughed at it.

Well, it's not wrong per se and people would certainly understand you, but it's "ungebildet".

Phew, because I wrote it waaaay more then I should have. Pretty much every piece was either about money or employment so I wrote "There are no jobs for uneducated people" at least six times over the two pieces.
I don't believe in any objective "self." Without "other" we basically do not exist. It only makes sense to comprehend ourselves as observational sonar and radar, reflections of how we are perceived. And physically we cannot really exist with the exclusion of others, which to me speaks to the value of even the notion of a true self.

There aren't any jobs for educated people either, so... :P

The list of places I could move to (other than other towns in the UK) is rapidly becoming smaller and smaller.
I think I'm just too fussy.
BC doesn't generally get that cold, so long as you're on the West side rather than in the mountains on the East. It rains a lot, though, so that might be bad, too. Talk to James about it.

Yeah, -21 is lame.

Florida?
God, why do you fucking hate me?
But that would mean living in Florida.
Florida really isn't that bad :P
man, you can read it in German!
Well, it's not wrong per se and people would certainly understand you, but it's "ungebildet".
Seems to be a [chat] joke, however...
I'm sure it's fine away from all the tourists.

Just don't come in the Winter. Or, visit only Vancouver or Toronto or something in the Winter.
We get up to +30s most of the Summer here, too. It's retarded, the variance.
Others are just unlearnéd
Mostly it's the state that screws up its elections a lot and has a hard-on for stopping gays from marrying.
We don't have that issue this far north.
Well... an "objective self" is an illogical construction.
Mucho metaphysical, man.
There aren't any jobs for educated people either, so... :P
Which is why I was hoping a direct translation that I pulled out of my ass would be ok.
Nightmarish About Florida:
Old People
Jews
Cubans
Kids
It looks like a penis
Not Nightmarish About Florida:
Miami
Porn Companies
No Income Tax
One time the election was close so two people argued back and forth over who had won. This could have happened anywhere.
This is the reason I'll still be claiming Florida as my home state when I enlist.
I think I'm just too fussy.
20F? That's not true at all. It was snowing this morning, and it was even colder than it is now. (It's -5F now.)
What?
I never said those were the things I find Nightmarish about Florida, I'm just saying that that's what the standard complaints are.
You want something warm and dry, right?

So basic_tech was a Morlock alt.
As I said earlier, QI told me last week that this whole "too cold to snow" thing is a myth - and the QI Elves never lie.
I really had to laugh as I read Jeffe's closing post. Guy's relentless.
nah...I don't mind that much, just not great at extremes.
Actually the main point of my fussiness tends to be politically motivated.
