Still the greatest thing Sonic has ever been a part of:

The comic had Sonic fight Robotnik in the middle of a doomsday device as reality itself caved in, Sonic was only saved via Deus Ex Machina involving his exposure to Rings. He went in there prepared to die.
And in the expanded version of the issue they put out of that, Robotnik straight up murders a human being because he had the audacity to cross into his territory.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
My earliest childhood memory is playing Sonic 2 and it is still my favourite game ever. I was at about the right age for Adventure 2's unique flavour at the time (I think I was 13 when that game came out), and though I had little love for Heroes or Sonic 06, I jumped right back on board with Unleashed.
I'm really curious to see how SEGA go about handling Sonic's 25th Anniversary next year. It's been a little longer between Sonic Team produced Sonic games than is usual, so hopefully they've been putting the team into really focusing on something special.
Outside of my unnatural love for Sonic, I think the last platformer I played and really liked was Super Mario 3D World, which I only got round to playing earlier this year. It's a shame that platformers seem to have fallen to the wayside in recent times.
I tried really hard to get into Freedom Planet, but it just didn't do anything for me. I feel like it falls into a lot of the same trappings that Sonic fangames generally have, in trying to be as similar as they can to Sonic while still being it's own thing, and falling on their gimmicks a bit too much. Maybe I just need to play it more!
I really, really like Sonic Chrono Adventure, which was made by the same guy. It was an interesting attempt at placing Sonic in the realm of a more Metroidvania-esque game, which is something that's always interested me. I think it works pretty well for the most part, but it does have it's flaws.
Despite its fan base, the comic was (or maybe is I dont read it any more) a very enjoyable kids comic back in the day
from what I understand it's been solid since the penders lawsuit and they did a universe reboot
and the crossovers with the megaman comic have been something to behold
Wait they rebooted?
Hmmmmmm
it's a long story, but the short version is they lost the rights to a large number of their ancillary characters to the writer who created them (who has since tried to make his own indie comic starring them and the results have been hilariously awful), and used the reality-warping shenanigans of the first sonic/megaman crossover as an excuse to reboot, redesign, and streamline the whole thing, while bending over backwards to make damned sure they don't fuck things up this time
it's basically what the New 52 would have been if DC weren't completely incompetent

Right I knew about that stuff
is Knuckles origin completely different now?
No ancient echidna society?
They rebooted it to be more akin to the game's continuity (with the inclusion of the SatAM characters), so Knuckles origin is more like what's been presented in the games.
I had always wanted to read the Archie Sonic comics, but just couldn't get into it. When I heard they were rebooting it to be more like the games I decided to jump on board and have been collecting them since.
I'm really liking what they're doing. They're basically in the middle of a massive adaptation of Unleashed right now, which is really clever because it's allowing them to lay down exactly how different this new continuity is from the previous one. And right in the middle they also did a mini adaptation of Sonic Championship, whilst having flashbacks to other Sonic games (like the Game Gear Sonic 2 and Sonic Heroes) to illustrate how this new timeline is laid out.
It's been really fun to read as a lifelong Sonic fan.

What I always thought was weird was that the first 4 or so issues of the Sonic comic are very clearly based on the Adventures cartoon. But then after that they pretty quickly changed over to being like SatAM. Scratch and Grounder were still around for a while.
Still kinda sad my issue #0 got destroyed when our basement flooded many years ago.

I hear good things about the Flynn run that started up a bit back. The first Megaman crossover was good, at least. Wily and Robotnik were best friends.
Even as a kid I could not take SatAM seriously. I hear the comics are even worse until that one guy got canned.
Appoarently the British comics are fun though?
The Briitsh comics are just as convoluted but it's british so fans defend it mercilessly
The Archies series tried and often succeeded in being decent but things get off the rails really quick. One time I picked up a comic and Knuckles was green .

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
the best part of the comics was all the insane hoops they had to jump through to make the plot of sonic adventure square with their years and years of built up continuity

Jim Cummings is an absolute all time great of voice acting
His robot in is utterly terrifying
Gex was fun

Sega of America saw it and immediately went "this is garbage, go back and try again"
the end result of the second attempt was SatAM, which aired on Saturday mornings, while AoStH was still sold for weekday syndication to recoup costs
Appoarently the British comics are fun though?
I don't even

Why I fear the ocean.
I do even
whatever else they did, whatever horrible, horrible things, they skate by virtue of that decision
No.
If only because it was the basis for a Sonic bootleg that got wide enough release to go on wikipedia.

You need to watch it if you haven't. It's basically the CD cinematics stretched out to feature length
