Applying medicine to a child's genitals probably shouldn't be a significant concern to a parent.
You realize you'll have to wipe their ass for a while, right?
Wiping is fine because thats what we do. Applying medicene which is something I have never done I wouldn't do.
There's a high likelihood of you having to apply medicine to your child's body though, penis or otherwise.
See the point is that yeah, I know that medicene like vicks for example is applied. Applyoing medicene to someplace where I don't have knowledge of or have seen it before is an issue. Why should I hassle myself with this issue when I don't have to deal with it?
I uh...I think circumcision is just fine, but I'm not sure "so I don't have to hassle myself" is in any way a valid reason. Why have children then? Overall they are a "hassle."
Hassle with putting medicene in that part. Kids rasing I have no problem with and I don't consider a hassle. That and its listed in the torah. I don't want my kid being kicked out. Afterwords he is free to do what he wants, but while he's under my care and my house (hopefully in the future) he shall observe the Jewish tradition.
Well, they are a hassle. You need to understand that. While you will love your child and it is an unfathomable joy, it's naive to think you're never going to feel hassled by raising them. The "parent" vocation is a very time- and energy-consuming one and will burden you heavily. Might as well get used to it.
If you're doing it for another reason, well fine or whatever, but "because it's a hassle to rub medicine on my son's penis" is an invalid reason in my opinion. You're going to be "hassled" with a lot more, and it's best you prepare for that ahead of time.

Dude, you realize your entire fucking argument pretty much paints you as squeamish about penises? I would also recommend not being anywhere near the birth because oh man are you going to be in for a mind fuck.
Thankfully you're going to grow the fuck up sometime between now and having children but for the love of god stop posting.

I take it you don't know that you will be applying medicine, Vaseline, and gauze several times a day after the circumcision?
thats why you have nurses.
Ha ha, yeah. Where do you live that your baby will be hospitalized for several days at 8 days of age?
Nurses. Hee.
Well, they have to keep the kid somewhere while the social worker looks for a family that the government can, in good conscience, allow to care for the child.

alright, so the stupid surgery part of my post aside, does anybody wanna address the study saying circumsized men are 2/3rds less likely to get AIDS?
or does anybody wanna cite how often circumcision is messed up?
If you want to fight AIDS, there are better ways to do it than circumcising men. Like, for instance, giving them condoms. I find it hilarious that the same group of people who are uncomfortable telling a man to put on a condom have no problem telling them to cut off part of their penis.
okay, that's not the point i was making. obviously circumcision alone shouldn't be a defense against AIDS. that's stupid. but a lot of people in this thread have been acting like there's no benefits to circumcision, but well... there are.
So it may or may not help reduce the chance of acquiring HIV. I hate the ambigouity of science.
what are you talking about? nothing about that study has been disputed, except by one guy who would be in a position to naturally be against it. the AMA statement came out waaaayyy before the study. there isn't any real dispute here: circumcision helps prevent HIV/AIDS. i'm not saying that's a sole reason to get a circumcision, but it's a point in its' corner

Isn't a child forced to the tenants of its culture in many more aspects?
Manner of dress, manner of speech, holidays observed, cosmetic changes such as piercings etc. are all heavily influenced by the atmosphere in which you are raised in.
Most people, I think it is safe to say, adhere to the same religion that their parents adhere to. (I don't think this is very wise, but that's a different argument.)
Parents will bring their children up into the culture and traditions that they believe in. That's just parenting and socialization, and by comparison this doesn't seem quite so terrible. This isn't extensive mutiltation, it's an extremely basic surgical procedure that doesn't damage the recipient in any way beyond initial pain.

[TEVYE & PAPAS]
Who, day and night, must scramble for a living,
Feed a wife and children, say his daily prayers?
And who has the right, as master of the house,
To have the final word at home?
The Papa, the Papa! Tradition.
The Papa, the Papa! Tradition.
[GOLDE & MAMAS]
Who must know the way to make a proper home,
A quiet home, a kosher home?
Who must raise the family and run the home,
So Papa's free to read the holy books?
The Mama, the Mama! Tradition!
The Mama, the Mama! Tradition!
[SONS]
At three, I started Hebrew school. At ten, I learned a trade.
I hear they've picked a bride for me. I hope she's pretty.
The son, the son! Tradition!
The son, the son! Tradition!
[DAUGHTERS]
And who does Mama teach to mend and tend and fix,
Preparing me to marry whoever Papa picks?
The daughter, the daughter! Tradition!
The daughter, the daughter! Tradition!
[MATCHMAKER]
Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match.
Find me a find, catch me a catch.
Matchmaker, matchmaker, look through your book
And make me a perfect match.
Matchmaker, matchmaker, I'll bring the veil.
You bring the groom, slender and pale.
Bring me a ring, for I'm longing to be
The envy of all I see.
For Papa, make him a scholar.
For Mama, make him rich as a king.
For me, well, I wouldn't holler
If her were as handsome as anything.
Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match.
Find me a find, catch me a catch.
Night after night, in the dark, I'm alone.
So, find me a match of my own.
[TSEITEL]
Hodel, oh Hodel, have I made a match for you.
He's handsome! He's young! All right, he's 62.
But he's a nice man, a good catch. True? True!
I promise you'll be happy. And even if you're not,
There's more to life than that. Don't ask me what!
Chava! I've found him! Will you be a lucky bride!
He's handsome. He's tall! That is, from side to side.
But he's a nice man, a good catch, Right? Right!
You've heard he has a temper. He'll beat you every night.
But only when he's sober- so you're all right!
Did you think you'd get a prince?
Well I do the best I can.
With no dowry, no money, no family background,
Be glad you got a man!
Matchmaker, matchmaker, you know that I'm
Still very young. Please, take your time.
Up to this minute, I've misunderstood
That I could get stuck for good.
Dear Yenta, see that he's gentle.
Remember, you were also a bride.
It's not that I'm sentimental.
It's just that I'm terrified!
Matchmaker, matchmaker, plan me no plans.
I'm in no rush. maybe I've learned
Playing with matches a girl can get burned.
So bring me no ring, groom me no groom,
Find me no find, catch me no catch.
Unless he's a matchless match!

The rate of complications during circumcision is estimated to be 2-10%, but if you include extreme bleeding as a complication, the rate shoots up to 35% and one study found a rate as high as 55%.

It's not a very good point though. Unlike say, the new HPV vaccine which provides a proportional reduction in the occurrence of a cancer (via a virus) which can't actually be controlled by proper application of prophylaxis, HIV transmission can be essentially entirely prevented via one means and is virtually guaranteed to kill you one way or another.

what are you talking about? nothing about that study has been disputed, except by one guy who would be in a position to naturally be against it. the AMA statement came out waaaayyy before the study. there isn't any real dispute here: circumcision helps prevent HIV/AIDS. i'm not saying that's a sole reason to get a circumcision, but it's a point in its' corner

That sort of implies you're only doing it to appease your family, you are into the religion outside that right?
Why thank you.
Same. Except I don't want kids, take that nature.
This is going to turn out like that eggs thing man. First they're good and they want you to eat a whole bunch. Then a study comes out that eggs are bad and we shouldn't eat them. Next think you know they're good again. Again? Were they ever really bad?
Bawhahah. Man, thats funny.
No I am not into religion. Yeah I follow the holidays and traditions, but being religious? Nah. I mean I eat things from the sea that don't have fins but I don't eat pork. I pick and choose because when I turned 16 I was told by my parents to do what I like as long as you can still call yourself jewish. So I picked and chose. Yeah I keep most of the things, but I have skipped on alot as well.
I can barely believe you're not a troll, but that aside your views horrifies me to no end.
yeah i don't think so. eggs aren't peeners

The rate of complications during circumcision is estimated to be 2-10%, but if you include extreme bleeding as a complication, the rate shoots up to 35% and one study found a rate as high as 55%.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
