So how boned are you? Slightly to seriously? I mean, how much water do you have near you at the moment?
Luckily, I am quite far away from the water. If the water gets to me than that means that dozens of miles of city are underwater.
But the city is literally cut in two right now with all the roads flooded over and so many businesses and such are going to be lost causes. I wasn't exaggerating when I said that this was making the Flood of '93 look pathetic. The entire city is under order to not use the city's water supply except for drinking, and a couple power stations might get shut down because of flooding.
fuzzball, it's too late for sandbagging here. Those buildings in the OP are the city hall and the sheriff's office. The public library's first floor is completely flooded and I wouldn't be surprised if right now the folks at the Art Museum are getting all the shit up as high as they can.
Yeah, you're way past anything I've ever seen.
I just think it's weird that on one side of the river they're mobilizing the entire public work force, and on the other people's yards are slightly damp. We're straight across from each other, it's wacky. I'm going to blame the casinos. I have no justification, I just am. The local levels are expected to peak Monday at nowhere near anything we need to be concerned about. Most of Iowa's fucked, though.
It's thundering right now, and there was some kind of storm watch. My stepmom and siblings are new to the area. It was funny watching them actually, ya know, care. This could easily be a weekly thing for a while.

So I read through this thread, up until Primus's post.
Then I went back into the thread list and saw a new post in this thread.
It said it was by Koshian.
I went "Oh!" and clicked on it, so I could read and enjoy it
And I started scrolling down.
Over time, the scrolling got slower, and slower, and slower, and finally I just stopped and looked off into the distance to reflect on what I have become.

I'm not gonna lie. The thought of all those books in peril hit me harder than any other part of your story.
That probably makes me a bad person, but I like to think it bodes well for my career as a librarian.
It seems like half of Wisconsin is under a flood warning because of this weather. And because of this, we lost a lake that decided it wanted to go join back up with a river.
Not the best before and after pictures, but at least something.

I feel pretty terrible about it because I know the libraries were suffering budget cuts already and if their entire multimedia selection gets damaged and their old records and pretty much everything but the kids' section and whatever miscellany they have upstairs is undamaged, I really wonder what's going to happen.
I've never heard the weather described as a color before.
If the sky has a yellowish or greenish tinge to it, there's a good chance that a tornado is going to form.
That's my understanding, anyway.
Man I just saw a shot of a guy driving a boat around and he went right by a tattoo parlor I've driven past a billion times - the sign was almost completely underwater.

I live near Lake Delton, and as of right now Baraboo is also flooded. If you've ever been to the Wisconsin Dells and seen the Ducks, they're actually using them now for rescue and recovery.
To Alastar, this is a good picture of Lake Delton meeting the Wisconsin River.

I remember getting cut off from my office in the floods of 2002. The only one to make it in was my manager, who cycled through a foot of water and overflowing stormwater, sewerage and floating debris to get in and answer phones.
I got him to email me a file I was working on, spent 20 minutes changing things, then went over to my parents to watch sport on their big screen.

CEDAR RAPIDS - According to the National Weather Service, the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids is at nearly 31 feet as of 2 a.m. Friday.
Observers put the water at 30.75 feet, an increase of nearly a foot over six hours. The crest is still expected to be about 32 feet, and that should hit around 1 p.m.
Just before 3 p.m., water was continuing to creep up Third Avenue SE, and was about two yards away from the intersection of Third Avenue SE and Fifth Street SE.
And now they're saying they are going to have to evacuate Mercy Hospital, which is ten blocks away from the river.

Just maybe.
It's right center.
Like, right now I am looking over my shoulders and checking for all nearby items that can be jammed into a skull.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE BOOKS?
maybe it's a global thing
