A few I think that aren't on the list (I haven't read the pages of comments) are Granado Espada (not too sure if it's free anymore), Drift City, and I think Huxley is officially out now. Also, I think you forgot Club Penguin
Redstone is (not surprisingly) being pawned off on another distributor. There haven't been any updates or news in at least a year, servers were increasingly unstable, etc. The new distributor will be transferring accounts, but no word yet on whether they're going to try and catch the game up to the Korean version.
[snip]and I think Huxley is officially out now. [snip]
Nope, not yet. That's according to the game's main page news announcement. They did have an open test in late November. The ijji Reactor says the game will be in open beta soon, but the client can't be downloaded.

I havnt heard a word of that game since the closed beta test. Hopefully they decided to not use a p2p torrent client that starts with the game as their download service. Something that made the game unplayable and laggy in vs mode and totally screwed up what should have been fun times.

Since you seem to be a bit savvy on the current ijji news, what's up with the OTHER shooter that was on their main page? They already have 3.5 (the .5 is Gunz) FPS's already

KARMA: Operation Barbarossa, you mean? I really don't know. It just started a closed beta, but the videos look weird, seems way too fast-paced for a WWII shooter. Plus, there are apparently, uh, aliens? or zombies? involved somehow. I suppose if they play the "alternative history WWII" angle right, it could be interesting.

- Granada Espado is on the list under it's proper name: Sword of the New World.
- It seems I outright forgot Drift City when i moved over to the new thread. It is on the old list. Lets see if I just forgot to copy/paste my MMO-racing category ... a yes. That's what i did.
new category added:
MMO Racing Drift City
A driving MMO. Drive around a big city, fulfil quests to become better and better. Looks pretty fun, really.
Project Powder
A snowboarding game. After global warming has melted all snow on earth humanity develops wormgates to travel to planets with snow to play in it. I could play and download it just fine, Mith crashed twice. My mind boggles.
Project Torque
a MMO racing game with very shiny graphics. Drive some races, raise to e-fame and get the coolest car, basically. No idea how much fun the game actually is, but the concept of a persistent world plus cars is interesting enough. It reminds me of the other "car"-mmo's that got discontinued, maybe the F2P format allows it a longer lifetime.
Tales Runner
A MMO racing game in which you control a character and ...well, race. The camera faces your character and then you run as fast as you can without crashing into exotic objects. It looks hideously cute and the oldest character you can play is 21. Probably aims for a young crowd.
Vector City Racers
A F2P top-down racing MMO specifically aimed at boys between 6 and 12. It's all in Flash and has simple graphics. Just drive around, collect coins and speed boosts. Perfect for if your little nephew is being a pest and all you've got on your PC is porn and Fallout.
- I do not consider Club Penguin a MMO, isn't it just a games site for little kids? You'll notice I also do not have Neopets and Gaia listed for similar reasons.
- I don't see anything on KARMA indicating it has anything MMO-ish. :? And it looks super dorky.

Project Torque has its flaws but it's not bad. A lot of ex-Motor City Online players wound up there.
Also, Drift City is fun for a while...I played it for about a week before the novelty wore off. That may be in part due to the fact that I started reading the forums and learned how grindy the higher levels become.
I haven't tried either game in quite some time, I have heard that PT has changed quite a bit since I last played though.

Would Sleuth Online actually be considered an MMO?
It's a browser based detective game where you play an old school hard boiled PI and solve murder cases. 90% of them are random (X number of suspects, 1 is guilty but a few red herring clues are thrown in as well) but the featured cases are scripted and have sone continuity between them.
Usually you're playing by yourself but you can pool your resources with other players and create detective agencies.

the whole multiplayer thing limits itself to trading items and a chatroom, doesn't it? I'm not sure I want to consider that multiplayer. It does have a persistent world and you play online, so I guess I'll just list it for now.
Aldo have you been playing Face of Mankind's open beta?
Nope, I've been playing LOTRO all week now.
Checking their website they aren't specifically advertising F2P, but you can make an account for free. I guess that's good enough. I will add it to the list.
Damn, that game does sound interesting, but it was quite a history. :?
*edit: I don't list private servers, they're technically illegal and we aren't allowed to discuss them at length on Penny Arcade.
yeah metalings are pretty good till the 40's. then you can start raping the geographers. but that's all for newbs.
it's alllll about the anubis, dude. always. as for your gunslinger, yeah you're probably stuck at geographers. unless you went for a desperado build where you can mob. gunslingers and ninja are shit for end game, but cool for fucking around, which is what you're doing.
renewals been in the works for a while. it's making the game more uh... linear. if you don't level agianst mobs your level, you get shit exp. and each map branching out from main cities will be progressively higher in the level progression.
then they change all the stats so it's not as good to min max 2 stats like before. and make it possible to upgrade items past 10... which is just... what the hell. it's a 1-5% chance to get a +10 or else the item is gone forever, and 11+ if it fails (with like a 30% chance?) you lose three levels so you're back at the 1-5% chance to get +10 again or it's gone forever again.
henroid you're missing something because you can get 7/7 in the training grounds.
i still haven't transcended in that game ever, but it's "easy" to do if you have friends willing to help. basically killing Kasas in less than 2 seconds for a lot of exp and leeching up the xp in party share.
I'm actually not missing something because I spam the potions when fighting spores and end up walking out at 10/10 in minutes. :P
The progression of difficulty branching out from the cities is a LONG FUCKING TIME COMING. I mean Jesus, outside of Payon right now they have spores which are not newbie material (still low level), and all that maps around that are mid-level "fuck you" zones.
As for the item upgrades, hey, I'll take a drop in the item level over the item fucking breaking any day of the week.
This is also how it's done in ROSE Online (another Gravity thing). +4ing a sword and watching it go to +1 is so much less disheartening than +5ing my 500th Boots[1] and watching it go away.
Holy crap, face of mankind is back?! I'll have to check it out again. I'm looking at the screenshots... and is that an alien? If they added ai monsters to kill that'll really be something. I'm downloading it and I'll let you know how it is.
so far it's a lot better than holic (which isn't saying too much) but overall not too bad
I moved cloud9 from promising titles to MMORPG. I enjoyed Holic for a few days, but the whole grinding out 2 classes thing got old fast for me. I probably should have done all killing as a rogue and then changed to healer before handing them in or something. :?

I think I did something similar to that when I played it, but even then the grind became unbearable around level 20

Apparently Cloud Nine is rife with bugs and players abusing them.
I'm downloading it right now, but I don't think it will be anything worthwhile.
They did not add aliens to face of mankind vhzod, as far as I can tell.
It is a sort of mmo that is based on factions and player politics, there aren't levels or classes.
Your faction determines what you can/should do pretty much.
The Dominion (read "Government"):
[LED]Law Enforcement Department (Police), which act as cops basically on Dominion held planets.
[FDC]Freedom Defense Corps (Military), the backbone of Dominion affairs, if shit goes down LED can request intervention from the FDC, and the senate can request they act on their behalf. they keep the peace on non-dominion territory when allowed, and on Dominion worlds that are not safe for cops (Tokyo).
The LED & FDC are the only factions that can utilize Nonlethal force (Barracuda rubber round firing pistol, Enfield Life Protector "tazer", and the ER-X Incapacitator rubber round firing rifle).
There are the Clans:
[BoS]Brotherhood of Shadows(Drug cartel), the only faction that can produce drugs, which act as buff items.
[MotB]Mercenaries of the Blood which are just that, they are mercenaries who can be hired to carry out combat missions.
Then you have the Corporations:
[CMG]Colonization and Mining Guild specializes in mining raw materials to sell, and they get discounts on the items they mine so if you wanted to mine items you would want to be with them so you get the most out of it.
[EC]Eurocore which focuses on item production, same benefits as C.M.G but in regards to producing items.
[VI]Vortex Inc. which focuses on transporting goods, so an import/export corporation.
[GoM]Guardians of Mankind have the benefits of lesser death penalties
(cheaper clones/more efficient med stations), and can produce the best medical items & mediguns.
so basically a pharmaceutical corporation.
Combat is sort of like Planetside or kind of a deus ex deal as some might say. You got guns with stats and you shoot them to kill/stun people. You can flash nuts whenever you find it necessary so ganking is bound to happen, also some retards called "Brotality" from MotB are just a group of stupid dicks that go around shooting people and causing trouble.
I am quite enjoying being LED although no one likes them, for obvious reasons because many abuse power and new players don't exactly understand the ins and outs of being a cop so they are either being dicks on purpose, or overreacting with gunfire and plentiful arrests to people who have done nothing wrong.
The corporations only put up with us cause we are the primary buyers of nonlethal weapons/munitions, and someone has to make our armor/shield implants.
So is face of mankind out and playable now? I just signed up for an account...and am downloading...i have no idea what to expect but this game seems awesome.
Its sort of like early SWG where what you put in was what you got out of it, its more about the community playing because otherwise there just isn't shit going to happen.
The game has been shut down twice and remade and all this crap, but this year they are "coming back" so they had closed beta going all year, and on the fifth they put it into open beta.
I am enjoying LED, and if you want someone to help you become a cop add Escondido Frijito to your friends.
I should be able to help ya with most things, and you start with enough money for armor/guns/ammo so you should be okay.
Also the game comes with a spiffy tutorial video to tell you pretty much everything you need to know other then faction specific details.
When you are in a faction, you get objectives(quests), to do while you are around.
If your LED you get cop objectives like scan/arrest/patrol/guard this area, missions.
BoS has stuff like produce drugs, etc.
Whenever you complete an objective you are rewarded with XP(for ranking up), and FC(Faction Credits).
Everyone per In-Game Day (2 IG days = 1 Real Day) gets paid depending on how many Faction credits they made out of the total FC earned by your faction that day, where the entirety of a faction's profits are the total faction credits and you are given a percentage that scales to that amount.
Factions get money based on things they sell on worlds they own, because each world has their own seperate markets, money made from mining, and a set amount that varies depending on what the higher ups do.
Like declaring war on another faction causes war fund penalties, so your faction rakes in less cash because of war costs, that kinda thing.
Edit: Sorry for crapping this page up with Face of mankind info but If you aren't doin much but playing grinding games, this would be pretty refreshing, its not for everyone but if you can enjoy it then it can get pretty enjoyable.
Just the other day I was getting stuff from storage and a cop gets sniped, right in front of me, I see the assailant and pull my Incapacitator ER-X and pump that dude full of rubber, run up and cuff the son of a bitch for murder.

You're a loose cannon Frijito! And I got too many goddamn complaints about this shit. You're off the force!
I remember playing this ages ago. I got shot and killed by a cop. Actually I may try it out again now that it's back. If nothing else the introduction of tutorial videos makes is 200% more user friendly than when I played it.
Alright we are done with the fom talk here in here cause I type a lot so if your interested go for it, I am giving it a thumbs up for something to play for free, content wise I wouldn't pay for any of this.
I feel this is due to lack of locations and item variety, also maybe a couple more factions to round it out would be nice.
FoM sounds vaguely interesting really. But it's track record makes me wonder how many people will be playing this in a few week's time. Obviously the game was never a commercial success before.

Zodiac
Cutesy Asian grind MMO with classes based on the animals of the zodiac. This means there's a lot more classes than you're used to, but you get to distribute your skill points yourself, so you can make a useless character in many new and exciting ways. It all looks kinda cheap and a lot we have seen before.
Way more user friendly. Still not a lot to do. Went with LED, hit patrolman so I can arrest people finally. Most of the time I was dying in 2 shots to people who were taking 4-5 shots and not showing any sign of stopping. I'll give it another shot in a day or two, really needs NPC's, everyone is sticking to their own areas, so all I have are other cops to scan. And no one else stops to be scanned.

It's an RP game, where no one really RP's.
Even without most of the RP, I find that unless you wanna craft items, being part of the Dominion is just busting dudes up that are getting uppity. Also yeah these mothers got hells of powerful weapons and I just dont get how some people are taking fire from like 6 people, and are downing others in a few shots.
Thinking of using a shield implant instead of armor, might help out, but I noticed like everyone but dominion are using lasers while we use ballistic weapons, maybe armor really stomps down on ballistics while lasers blast through it.
But using nonlethals is the way to go, also rolling alone isn't the best idea, one on one I can pretty much every time guarantee a stun then arrest, but anymore then that and I get cut down.
Also: Boosters could of been part of the people not going down as easily.
Yeah, I hit 20 with my Lion character on Trickster and I'm pretty much done.
Downloading Rose right now; I've played it before, but I don't remember much other than that I uninstalled it.
It's kinda lacking on impressive features, really. I mean: everything works and when I had to puppy-sit it filled the time nicely...it just adds nothing to the genre except polish in some areas.
I mostly remember the adorable character selection screen. All your characters were sitting in a tree hut and when you selected a character it would get all excited, when you entered the world it would jump up from its chair and run out. And when you deleted a character itwould stay there on its chair for a few days crying and looking angry at you before it would be really gone.
Officer Loomis of the LED, ready to get two-shot and maybe taze some mans. So I have to rank up before I can arrest people? Is there a necessary level of PP someone has to have before I can arrest em?

I feel this is due to lack of locations and item variety, also maybe a couple more factions to round it out would be nice.

I'm installing it right now and just wondering if it's going to be uninstalled within the day or not.

Play ragnarok but have less fun
Like most Korean MMOs, but you get no fake sense of accomplishment when you do anything that would be noteworthy in other games. They don't even try.
If you want a Korean MMO with a good fake sense of accomplishment, ROSE Online is worth trying.
Downloading Rose right now; I've played it before, but I don't remember much other than that I uninstalled it.
