If Google is right, BYOL is Bring Your Own Laptop. Um... BigRed, can't people check their laptops in and out of BYOC?

I'm not even really sure what you're asking here. You can bring a laptop into BYOC if you grab a BYOC pass. I'm not sure if you'd want to carry one around otherwise.

But a laptop is more inconvenient. When I went to PAX 09, I bought a super cheap cellphone just for the event, and it had minutes included, though I used it almost exclusively for texting.

Wait let me get this straight. You want to use you laptop to save peoples phone numbers? Why? Dirty war wah?

Also wifi blows at pax sure there is wifi every where but it gets attacked by 30K Nintendo DS's and everyone else using it not to mention even 3g slows down when pax happens. So while you could theoretically use the laptop why would you want to unless you had a specific task for it.

Echoing the above post, you probably will not be able to get anything useful out of the wifi. It gets raped by thousand upon thousands of wireless devices and slows to a dead stop.

I wanted a laptop to surf the web if necessary, assuming there is descent wi-fi, which someone responded most likely won't be the case.

As for a dirty war, the pen is mightier than a sword.

I was originally planning on going to East this year, but that fell through.

But my soul demands PAX in some form this year, so Prime will be blessed by my presence for a 4th consecutive year.

2007 was my inital exposure, where I beheld the majesty that was the Wil Wheaton Keynote.

    Quick question(s)

For the people that used twitter for looking for people for board games and such, how successful was it? I really want to try out more board/card games at PAX Prime this year, since I had lots of fun at drop-in DnD.

    Hi everyone!

Trying to be on the ball more this year, and want to be on the PAX train instead of driving. Anyone know if there is anything official on it yet? Mostly need to know if the PAX train gets to seattle wednesday, or thursday. Thanks, hope to see everyone there!

The easiest way to get in on board games/card games is to just walk in to the free play area. There are always groups looking for more and excited to teach someone a new games.

IIRC The train arrives on Thursday, shortly after the CCST. Train infoz will likely go up closer to Prime and definitely after East. One show at a time!

The WCTT has always left the Wed morning before PAX from LAX Amtrak station via the Coast Starlight and arriving in Seattle (with luck) around like 8:30-9PM on Thursday night. [Year before last it was about midnight, but there was a known two hour delay as well as the small siding delays which you'll no doubt hear TONS about in the coming months]
The return trip has always left SEA Amtrak on Monday morning and arrived at points south on Tuesday. Also the Coast Starlight.
I doubt this will change because with a day or two on the train in either direction most people can't afford the extra time off work it would take to change the dates.

There is also a Cascades contingent, but I don't know much about that trip.

the cascades contingent existed mainly because there was one city (in oregon i think) where the coast starlight used to stop to pick up passengers but didn't anymore. that is no longer the case and now everyone rides the coast starlight.
