Yea, and at some point late in the night they may ask us to move along as well. So hotel rooms will be a logical place to carry on late, though I want to try and give everyone some structure as to where to find games in general in the evenings :)

It may be a wise idea to plan for the lobby, and if we are moved around to drop a note in a thread on these forums or the IRC.

Tweet it! Get a list of cell phone numbers. Put a sign up as a bulletin in the lobby or on a declared room door with constant updates to what games are on and where.

not all of us have cell phones ;)

    I have a DS Lite :/

Never have been able to get the internet to work on it, and the USB wireless adaptor is out of production now. Ebay wants far too much for it XD

Ok, so I will setup a twitter stating times that we'll be playing when PAX gets closer...

In the meantime, does anyone have the vanguard cards and is willing to bring them for some games? Haven't used them in years, and people are gouging for them on the secondary market.

I don't own a cell phone...period. I live in the middle of nowhere and have 1 provider out here (up on Lake Huron). Plus, I rarely leave home to boot since I telecommute for school and work. So yea.

I would highly suggest just getting a $10 cell phone and $10 card. You can set up twitter to send everyones updates to your phone. Makes it easier to track down people and such even if you never even call some one. Also being in a new city with no real means to get in touch with people would slightly freak me out, but to each his own.

Boston isn't "new" to me. I'm originally from SE Massachusetts ;) Haven't lived in Boston for a while, but I can get around no problem. Plus I'll have my laptop handy for doing twitter updates so we'll be all set.

I just hope that we don't get asked to leave because we get too loud. Can we get a waiver signed by all who are going to attend saying that they will adhere to Wheaton's Law?...lol

Also, I got thinking about it, and maybe we could talk to one of the hotel managers and see if we could use a ballroom at a discount because that way they would make at least some money for the unused room....thoughts???

That probably won't work. Hotels are pretty set on their ballroom costs.

That said, in previous years at PAX Prime, people have gamed in the lobby without issue. Unless people get stupid or rowdy, there shouldn't be a problem (and then, just removed the rowdy idiots and go back to your game). Hell the 3rd shift people will probably be happy just to see activity in the lobby at that hour that isn't drunk people unable to make it back to their rooms.

As long as a few people are actually guests of the hotel, it shouldn't be a problem.

I am totally there and I can bring Settlers of Catan or Power Grid (actuall 6 player board games) and my MTG deck (standard 60 card decks no EDH or odd formats).

I am also staying at the Sheraton Thursday, I am getting to the hotel around 3.

Yea I already talked to the "event organizer" at the Sheraton and they said there wasn't much that could be done about the cost. Not much we can do about that.

As far as the third shift people go, I'd have to agree based upon my experiences at PAX 08. Even at 2am, there were a few dozen people chilling in the lobby either on Surface, the provided computers, or playing some sort of game. That said, I'm fairly certain we won't have any issues with being asked to leave as long as everyone behaves.

Again, ideally there will be a few guests of the hotel (like myself) there to smooth things out. It also wouldn't hurt if you were spotted picking up some drinks or food from their restaurant or small cafe-type place (assuming Boston's is similar to Seattle).

MTG is definitely a go. I'd say bring whatever decks you like to play, but don't lug around any cards that are banned in vintage format. They just generally complicate matters. I also recommend bringing a deck for Assassin format which I mentioned in a prior post. Decks like that should be fun to play, with a focus on either swift kills or non-targetted effects due to the rules. EDH is out, mainly because it is insanely complicated to teach newcomers.

Settlers of Catan would freaking rock, so long as you are patient and willing to teach new players ;)

Someone else mentioned something about Summoners or Conjurers or something to that effect (it was in an earlier post I am too lazy to search for). That may be a wise idea as well.

As soon as I have a twitter account ready I will put the twitter info in the first post of this thread.

So is it Magic:tG only at this point? I mean i have some cards I'm happy to bring and try to work through my memory to play, but my cards date back a bit. Some as far back as 5th gen cards... mixed in with more current.

Another option (though I haven't played the latest edition) would be basic DnD tabletop. All you'd need is paper, pencil, and dice unless you really need minis.

Heck, we could have pre-made characters since this may be a one night game!

I and my two comrades might be possibly up for something Thursday night. I'll be bringing my mtg cards for sure, and maybe settlers and munchkin. A few of my magic decks are fairly old (along with new ones). I don't see that as a problem though. As long as they're not totally broken and overpowered, then I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing old decks. Though the rules did change a bit recently, so be prepared for your deck to be completely invalidated.

Hey guys I have no problem bringing catan but I am going to the Pre-pax dinner. So I can be back at the hotel whenever that ends ...

I have no problem with teaching new players but since I have all the exspansions I would like another experienced player or two to help me.

I also have a couple MtG decks but right now I am just looking to play with people.

As mentioned in the other table-gaming thread I can bring some games to play. My collection is here if anyone has any requests. Please keep in mind I'm staying in a hotel about a half of a mile from the Sheraton, so I probably won't want to carry any massive boxed games.

Okay, looks like I can join gaming on Wenesday and I'll be bringing the following games:

    Agricola
    Citadels
    Dominion
    Through the Desert
    Bohnanza
    Bang!
    Are you the Traitor?
    My Icehouse pieces

I'm only organizing the Pre-PAX gaming nights because the actual convention has a LOT of freeplay areas setup during convention hours (Fri 2pm-2am, Sat 10am-2am, Sun 10am-6pm). I know for a fact there's a MTG event set for 6pm sharp at the Gaming area they have reserved at the convention center. Check the other Magic Events thread to see times and types.

    UPDATE:
My magic cards are currently in my best friend's room at his home, next door to my parents' place. I'm probably not gonna head back just to get them, especially given he's miles away working on his Masters degree.
Unless he pops back the week before Pax, in which case I will too to see him and swipe my cards :P

So, settlers of Catan? I'd love to learn to play that.

Do we know how many people are going to this. I am still trying to grab dinner at Fire & Ice then hang out with people to play games.

If there are a bunch of people I will just grab pizza and play games.

Else I am going to fire and Ice.

I am bringing Power grid and Settlers and some MtG decks.

I am flying in during the day Thursday. I am planning on shipping my stuff on the 19th and just have it available at the hotel when I arrive.

Yea...that's probably more of a room setup than lobby. Though if they are not particularly busy and its kept quiet they may be ok with it. Not sure to be honest.

There may be a premium on table space in the lobby. I'm not sure how they have things setup in the lobby, but when I arrive in Boston I'll scope it out and edit the first post with important information.
