Does anyone know what the different skins look like? I'd really like to see the Predator "Lord".

Apparently Predators are kept fairly secret. The teams in AVP2 also seemed to be really clueless about the Predators, at least until Rykov told them with his survival story

generally predators dont leave much in the way of survivors, or evidence of their existence, what with self destruct and all.

and i wouldn't have too much of an issue calling all the movies canon, there are some inconsistencies, mostly revolving around Bishop/weyland, but other than that they are generally self contained.

So I'm conflicted on this game. I work at Gamestop and sold a ton of copies yesterday and the anticipation for this game seems to be infectious. I can't help but feel a little swept up in it all. But then I see the reviews and nobody is scoring this game very high. I don't really know if I want to spend 60 bucks for something that might be a major disappointment.

Weyland knows about the predators. I'm pretty sure it's just no one telling the lower staff whats up.

The single player story definitely has an old school vibe going for it. It reminds me a lot of Doom 3. That's a good thing for me as I was completely immersed in the Doom 3 world, monster closets and all.

Two things that I wish were different off the bat:

    1. some type of iron sight system. (although I don't know how well that would go down with the the fast enemies in small areas bit. It just feels weird not having it after being spoiled in all these games.)

    2. An actual hand held motion sensor instead of a halo-esque radar on your HUD.

I haven't played much multiplayer but tried infection mode and that seemed pretty fun. At the beginning of the round one player is tapped as the alien. Every time he kills a marine they become converted to alien so on and so forth until there is only one man left. It's intense being that last guy.. running down the corridors all willy-nilly, being hunted by every player in the game until they eventually get to you. I was the last man standing on the first game I played and boy that was a rush.

It's all pretty rough around the edges still. There is definitely room for some mods to swoop in and create some amazing stuff. Personally I think they should have just recreated Natural Selection with Alien skins and called it a day. Here's hoping there's some talented modders out there with similar ideas.

I've only played part of the Predator campaign so far, but holy fuck is it good.

Perfect mix of stealth and action. And the approaches to the stealth sections are varied enough to keep you entertained.

One time I played it like the Predator would have, skull-taking and all that. After accidentally shorting out the electrical fences I was treated to the sight of about a dozen aliens overrunning the one marine I had left alive, then coming straight for me.

The next time, I decided to sneak past all of the marines guarding the base I was sneaking through and disabled the electric fence instead, causing swarms of aliens to invade the base, massacring the first line of marines and creating enough chaos for me to sneak through undetected.

The new version of Predator Hunt can go eat a bag of soggy cocks though. Whoever thought it'd be a good idea to put so many marines on a map, force the Predator to kill on a timer, defeating the point of the Predator's "Hunt and Kill" gameplay mechanics, and give the Predator no weapons on spawning, sometimes having him spawn next to Marines uncloaked needs to be slapped on the back of the head.

I would have much preferred a system where the Predator had a number of lives, or there were maybe three Predators working off of a pool of three lives on larger games, and then have the Marines have one life instead of this incredibly unbalanced deathmatch style of play.

Please tell me someone in the game says if it bleeds we can kill it. I think that is one of the most bad ass lines ever. Dutch and his team are getting hunted by some inhuman monster that can turn invisible and what does he say, "If it bleeds, we can kill it." And the way he says it so matter of factly is the best part.

    You. Me. There.

I had this on pre-order, then the demo bugged on me, so moved to Wish List. Saw the initial and current reviews on site that usually *inflate* scores and decided not to buy.

However, everyone here seems to love it. OK, I liked AvP 2 a lot, one of my favorite games ever, will I like this?

The NPC's have some great reactions too, depending on how you screw with them.

There's one area at the start of the refinery level where you encounter your first
    smartgunner.

The game gives you the obvious route of leaping onto a ledge above them and then diving down into them and going apeshit on the marines with your claws. But I took a cleverer route.

The first marine to get stealth killed was seperated from the rest, leaning over the edge of the ledge down into the chasm. I was above him, cloaked, and leaped over top of him, cleaving his head in two as I landed.

I then recloaked and use the distract move to play back old Predator movie lines (Which were played in trademark Predator mask reverb from my perspective.) to cause the marines to investigate one by one.

One by one I took them as they came around the corner, somehow getting lucky enough to tear their skulls off each time. By the time I got done there was a fairly decent sized pile of headless corpses lying just around the corner.

    Then I called the
    smartgunner
with another Predator quote. He walked forwards, mumbling something about his lazy-ass friends, turned the corner, and got as far as saying what sounded like "What the fu-" before I l rammed my claws through his throat and lifted him off of the ground from behind by his throat.

Frigging brutal. I don't see how you couldn't have fun with this game.

I hope someone makes some wide-open SP sandbox hunting maps for the Predator. I could see myself being fairly entertained with them if they were good enough.

Tried the single player marine on normal and it was a hell of alot harder than I thought it should be for normal... took me a few tries to kill the first alien (with the pistol) til I figured out that the 3 shot mode was too damn slow.

Also was underwhelmed by the pulser rifle so far.. anyone else feel it doesnt have much teeth to it.

Finished the Pred campaign, overall really good. Not a fan of some of the sound effects.. like the plasma cannon... sounds nothing like it did in the films.

i kill more in the single player with the shotgun than the pulse rifle. it feels like i burn through the rifle's ammo too fast. i can put most aliens in 2-4 shells, if not wound them badly.

is it bad to let wounded aliens crawl away? i doubt they can do much once i leave them, but sometimes they go off into vents and i feel i run into more almost right away..

Anyone who got the Hunter Edition end up with a tailless facehugger? I got the box home, opened 'er up, and found that because of the way the facehugger model had been packaged, the rubber at the base of the tail had succumbed to the pressure and broken clean off. I'm wondering who I can yell at to get a new one. Sega? Rebellion?

Either the pulse rifle really needs a damage boost or Aliens need to have lower health. Aliens taking 15-20 pulse rifle hits to die is somewhat dumb, at least in the campaign mode. It takes so long to hose one down at only 15-20 feet that half the time, another Alien gets in my face before I can finish the job.

Also, damn, the flamethrower needs some serious work. Lower fuel consumption and a huge boost to damage, namely. Killing a single Alien can take almost an entire fuel canister; the pistol does more damage and more quickly than that. On top of that, since I started picking it up in the campaign I've been killed at least 4-5 times because a burning Alien grabbed me, I broke the grab, and was killed by a 100% unavoidable spray of blood when the Alien exploded immediately after the grab break. About the only thing it has the slightest use for is spraying an area blindly to kill facehuggers and even then the fire won't necessarily burn facehuggers it touches.

But otherwise, some great frantic moments as the Marine. There's just something special about gunning down a couple dozen Aliens dead-set on crawling past a blockade to come eat you. And damn is it awesome to see the Aliens leaping around from wall to wall while you shoot at them. Acid blood also hurts like a bitch. Imagine that.

So apparently going to sega.com/facehugger will allow you to register for a replacement if yours is damaged. Funny that they seemed to know about the tail issue almost precognitively.

And in response to Ninja Snarl P : The weapons are definitely a little bit broken. It takes roughly 1.5 bullets from the pulse rifle to drop a fully-armed Predator in multiplayer, and just about 80,000 bullets to drop an alien in the campaign. You're right about the flamethrower, too. They definitely did it wrong.

I think the pulse rifle is good the way it is in mp. It should drop everything in a few bursts but it's easy to dodge fire as the pred and alien so that's fine. Stuff does seem to have tons of hp in the sp though.

Personally if anything needs to be changed it's the flamethrower and the disk. Disk really should not be 1 hit kill all the time for no energy and the flamer is just so useless.

Also it would be nice if you could be a predalien or one of the spitter aliens in mp too. Would be fun to mix it up.
