Dogs stink. There is a dog-stink.

    you can't hug a cat

    cats are unhuggable

and also they spend most of their time staring at you

trying to kill you with their minds

    Yes you can

Scoop one hand under their armpits and pick them up, quickly put a hand on their lower back for support, then snuggle them up to your chest and hold them forever

the whole time the cat's expression is like this is some fucking bullshit

whereas if you hug a dog or pet a dog or look at a dog or possibly cough that sounds like the dog's name they will make an expression like YAAAAAAAAAAAY

Our cats have learned to tolerate being picked up and fussed. They refuse to enjoy it, but that's ok because they are warm and fluffy and their expression of disdain is a small price to pay for going oosaprettyboyooisooisyouareyezyouare while you ruffle his tummy.

Sometimes my cat just silently lies in my arms, barely tolerating the snuggles and cuddles and kisses.

Then my mom walks by, he sees her, and he starts screeeeaming

    it has been my observation

that "cat people" are largely introverts who lack patience for general human idiocy, don't want to be bothered a lot, are often as sedentary as possible, and prefer to give and receive affection on their own terms. they don't like dogs because they see them as excitable, high maintenance, loud, aggressive, and childish.

"dog people", conversely, tend to be more extroverted, active, patient with stupid human bullshit, and more openly affectionate towards others in general. they don't like cats because they see cats as snooty, self-absorbed little shits full of claws and hate that don't really care about you.

people get pets that suit their personality, and it is unsurprising when the personality of the pet is similar to the personality of the owner.

I mean there are companies that do okay without DRM.

The guys who made GalCivII for instance.

Granted GalCivII doesn't have anywhere near the budget AC2 had so it didn't need as many sales to break even.

But then I never demanded game companies depend on 7 digit number budgeted games to survive either.

    didn't stardock do galciv?

galciv and another of their products, windowblinds, just destroyed one of my laptops and i suspect it was because of some drm monkey-business.

that or they put some sort of poison into my registry

Stardock actually appears to pride themselves on their slashdot approach to business. I don't know much about their profits, but they usually do good work. No DRM, will actually give you a refund and revoke your license if you don't like the product, I've gotten them to transfer games from one account to another.

Of course their pres is also a bit of libtard but he means well. Elki trolled him once. Was good times.

I wouldn't call it that, but whatever it was, it was 100% his fault.

that tends to be a little different. those pets are this close to being living decoration, as you interact with them very little aside from maintaining them.

pet fish are really functionally identical to house-plants in terms of the psychological value they have to most humans

some people are different, of course, some people absolutely love their fish or parrot or guinea pig as much as any dog owner loves their dog, but that's not an attitude i see that is prevalent.

Actually I have a cat that is very affectionate. She loves petting and will purr and rub her face into you and just generally be the nicest damn thing ever. Even when annoyed she rarely scratches.

Of course she's an inbred to hell and back cat so it's obviously some sort of recessive 'nice' gene long since forgotten by modern cats.
