If you bake the sliced pineapple core/heart until tender and then throw it in a pan of melted brown sugar, butter, cardamom, and ginger; it's delicious!

I thought it was always illegal to take photos of strangers without permission except under certain circumstances like maybe photographing a crime or something
nope
if i understand it correctly and i probably don't
taking pictures is always fine
unless you make money off them, then you need to get permission to show it or use it
unless you're photographing a crime
and even then if they're under 18 i think you have to make it so they're unidentifiable
but i'm pretty sure all that may be wildly different
In the US, you can take pictures of whatever the fuck you want in public. The legality of publishing or selling those photos can get kind of gray. Essentially, you can publish or sell whatever you want in an artistic context, as long as it doesn't imply commercial endorsement or slander a private citizen or a few other things, I think political endorsement too. Getting model releases signed is usually just a matter of being polite and covering your bases.
There was a Mexican place by us that made amazing Pina Coladas from scratch- no mix. We went a week ago, and they use a mix now They taste awful and I almost cried.

i dont know, i can kind of relate to the dude suing the photographer
like what if that had been a painting
and the picture was good enough to be blown up and printed out as a poster or good canvas print and re-sold?
i mean people are dicks, they do stuff like that, and artists ... don't get as much as they should.

Was this theoretical painting paid for with public funds? Is it on display on a public street?
Plut, I'd never heard of doing that with the cores. I think I will next time I have a pineapple.
I hated wasting all the cores. Figured baking may soften them up and it did. Let me know how it works out for you. A sprinkle of sea salt is great on them afterward. Salty, sweet, tangy, it's all good.
The source article doesn't make clear why the photographer made $60 on them, but chances are he's still covered by fair use. The artist sounds like an idiot. I like how boingboing tagged the article with authoritarianism...

Ditto and because of that I end up gnawing on the core like it's a corn cob.
I like your idea better. I'll let you know how it turns out. Not too many pineapples around here this time of year.
