So, storywise does picking a specialization have any impact on the game?

ie: Spy Specialization has dialog X, Commando Y, etc.

They mention it a couple times, but nothing major

Oh wait, specializations. No idea, though I think I remember a line or two about being an operative, but I can't be sure

Your background is referenced a couple of times, but I never saw it effect disposition at all.

Recruit and Veteran get their own dialogue choices occasionally, which do have some fairly significant effects.

Yes, it's mentioned at least once. I know I got some lines of dialogue reflecting that I started the game as a field agent and switched to operative after Saudi Arabia.

ok. I went operative for Stealth/Pistol/Tech instead of Stealth/Pistol/Martial and I was just wondering if there's something I'd be missing out on game choice wise.

I'm playing recruit for my playthrough now.

Apparently if you play Veteran or Tech Specialist
You don't have to make a choice at the end of Moscow, you're fast enough to do both options.

I can only confirm for Veteran though.

Oh man. I just got out of Saudi Arabia and finally discovered that I could switch to a scoped zoom mode for my assault rifle by clicking in the right analog stick. I had no idea you could do that. Kinda made the boss fight with Shaheed's bodyguard a really annoying exercise in wasting ammo.

Origin I think, but I think I had at least 6 points in the skill when I did that mission.

I know that, every time I could, I picked a bottom option that said "Tech" or something similar.

Having trouble with a nearly-end-game boss:
I'm fighting Darcy, he's in his tower throwing grenades at me, I get him down to half health, and he always just disappears. No more guards coming, can't interact with his tower's door, can't shoot him, can't leave the area. This has happened around three times now, and the really annoying part is that if I retry and he kills me, the next time I reload he's not there at all, so I need to reload again.

I'm loving the game and have had no issues with the gameplay whatsoever, but the technical problems and unclear level design are annoying me. I'm not sure whether this problem is technical or design, but either way it's not the first time it's happened, and it's always annoying.
Go to the tower opposite to him, grab the sniper rifle, and pop him

And what if I'm doing a no-kills run?
I popped Master Shadow Operative, jogged up to a clear spot in front of his tower, popped chain shot and put 6 tranqs in his head.

Then of course I had to deal with the other dudes, but Darcy was done pretty quickly once I stopped trying to unlock that damn door.

My problem wasn't fighting him, it was that he always disappeared halfway through the fight and didn't come back. He just crouched at the top of the tower and never stuck his head out again. It happened every time I got him to around half health, and 6 critical headshots didn't take him down, so I eventually made it by wearing him down to about 75%, and then using chain shot. Pretty annoying.

I think the achievements are a little bugged, at least for me.

I just finished the game without romancing anyone, and the achievement didn't pop. I think there are several others that I'm missing as well.

But at least I got the Recruit achievement, so I can go Vet from now on and get those sweet, sweet skill points.

And I beat it! That was awesome. Now I need to start a Veteran run, but I wonder what class I should go with. Are bosses really that difficult without Chain Shot? I think I might want to try something different than the stealthy pistol route. I'm thinking loud.

Also, question on the end of Moscow
With the Veteran difficulty, I'll be able to save Madison and disarm the bomb? I don't need to be high in Tech to do that? Or does it have to be both?

Edit: Ah fuck, I can't do Veteran. I didn't realize Recruit was a separate class. Curse you, video game!

Martial arts works pretty well, but on bosses you can't reach and retro lunatics...I don't want to think about a world without chainshot.
I don't think saving Madison and the bomb has been mentioned by the veteran players yet, but both objectives at Brayko's mansion were, by veteran and tech apparently.

Haven't achieved it yet unfortunately. I also did the CIA and G22 without being seen. Honestly not sure what I'm missing. It might be a no-knockout factor, so I'm gonna see if I can do either mission without detection or knockouts.

As far as saving madison and disarming the bombs on Veteran, I never found the option to accomplish both on my veteran playthrough.
I can confirm that going after the bombs on Veteran does not give you the option to save Madison. Then again, perhaps there's a time factor involved, I was trying to ghost my way through so I did take my sweet time getting to the bombs. Or it could be something that shows up if you go after Madison instead of the bombs perhaps. Though I know going after Madison on recruit didn't give me the option of taking out the bombs normally.

I know one of the emails you can hack does mention the rendezvous point they're supposed to bring her to
but I was never able to figure out where the heck that was. I'm thinking perhaps its a place on the map prior to having to choose between the East/West wing?

Just wanted to point out that, at least on the CIA mission, the game definitely distinguishes between never being seen with no violence at all, and even stealth takedowns or alerting someone to yellow and knocking them out. As a stealth character, and because the mission is quite short, I was able to do it the former way and definitely got a distinct mission summary as well as a commendation from Mina. The dossier on the CIA makes it quite plain that harming agents in any way will have bad repercussions.

OK, I really don't understand people's problems with combat in this. After finishing it with minimum combat, but still firing a few hundred pistol rounds, I'm replaying with dual SMGs and spraying AR fire at anything too far away. And it's AWESOME. Sure, I'm not very accurate past 10m or so, but that's why I've got toughness to run up to guys, and an AR for ones I can't reach.
Also, it's really pointed out the importance of your stats to stealthing. My minimal combat run also used minimal gadgets and skills, so I was avoiding enemies the old-fashioned way wherever possible, and was able to sneak all around my enemies. Now if I try to sneak up behind someone with no stealth skill and bulky armour, they hear me, turn around and open fire before I can reach them. I'm guessing then that people who think the stealth system is broken have been playing it like Splinter Cell or something instead of as an RPG.

One thing I think would have been really nice though is if the environment were a bit more splinter celly. Let me interact with the environment more, by jumping over ledges, climbing onto buildings, and generally just moving about more freely. It annoys me that I need a little marker and an on-screen prompt to be able to jump over a gap.

So it turns out you can "win" at the museum.
Second play through I did Moscow first and teamed up with SIE at the embassy.

Then when I hit Rome I had her act as handler during Marburg's mansion, since it turns out she and Marburg hate each other. I've gone to take the Museum mission and in the briefing it mentioned that SIE got ahold of one of her contacts in Deus Vault and organised for the explosive's detonators to malfunction so they will not explode.

We'll see what happens, but that would mean if you did it right you could get complete both objectives at the end of both Moscow and Rome. I'm wondering if it's possible in Taipei as well.
